Just three months after its recent acquisition by Playdom, Acclaim Games has been shut down a second time. Visitors to Acclaim’s official site yesterday were greeted with the following message:

GamesBeat has collected up 12 extreme examples of video game PR and asked the professionals why it always has to be so “edgy.”
This takes me back to what seems the ancient times of games PR. But some of it still happens, I see.
Acclaim, an early member of Nintendo’s so-called Dream Team of N64 supporters, along with subsidiary developer Iguana, helped make the N64 the FPS console of choice with the Turok franchise. Turok: Dinosaur Hunter even beat Goldeneye to market by several months.

DC - "Hailing from an age of intense arcade racers, Re-Volt is a fast and exciting game. Often hailed as a classic multiplayer title, it’s substantial selection of cars and tracks makes for a game that’s great fun solo, but even with better with friends. With tight controls, a cool soundtrack, and addictive gameplay, it succeeds in providing a retro racing experience that has stood the test of time incredibly well."
I predicted this years ago. The new Acclaim had a very different focus, being online, free-to-play, but it wasn't so hot either. The company name just carried a stigma too.
I Tthink ACCLAIM games would be better off just doing small budgeted Indie games for PSN and XBLA.
