Why inFamous got a new Cole (and why he was changed back)

"You know, we never thought that our joke about New Orleans' heat (well, fake New Orleans) would hold much water in the reasoning behind Cole's new, jacket-less look in inFamous 2, but it turns out that's a big part of the logic."

LordMarius5763d ago (Edited 5763d ago )

"we listened to our fans and went back and took the best of everything to end up with the design we have settled on now."

Translation: we caved in even though it meant corrupting our vision and wasting some time and resources that could have been used to implement or perhaps better other design models

Max Power5763d ago

Well, I for one, am glad that they reverted somewhat to the original Cole. And if they need to delay the game back due to the time it took for the changes, then I will gladly wait.

Bereaver5762d ago

Let me put what LordMarius said in perspective for everyone else, since he's getting too many disagrees.

Let's say you're painting a picture and then you decide.... hmm... you know what? I really don't like this picture. So you change it.

You think it's wonderful and so cool.

But then, everyone around you keeps telling you, that the old one was better.

So, you decide to throw away your touch, for someone else's likings.

In side, you will all feel like you caved in.

But on another note, I'm glad the old Cole is back. :D

rdgneoz35762d ago

@Bereaver and LordMarius
They may have caved in and reverted to a somewhat original Cole. But for people that played the first one, tell me how the new voice actor and completely new look works? It was a completely different character, yet the sequel was suppose to continue the story from the first game and expand on it.

Take any series of games that uses the same characters (UC, GOW, GeoW, etc) and tell me if fans would like the devs to change the looks and voice actors of the characters each game when they're suppose to be the same person from the previous game.

I can see the jacketless look since he's in warmer weather, but if they wanted to use a completely different face and voice actor, it might have been better to do a different story in the same universe.

Also, it doesn't take much time or resources to change 1 model (basically the head). Glad they listened to the fans. I enjoyed the first game and glad his look is similar.

Bereaver5762d ago

Ohhh no, I'm not agreeing that the choosing to listen to the fans was bad. I was just wanting to show his point.

Nate-Dog5763d ago

I don't think they "caved in", everyone was moaning and groaning about the changes to no end. They must have thought it had gotten to a point where they might actually lose fans over it so they'd stick with what wasn't broken in the first place.

sikbeta5763d ago

There was an articles stating the Sucker Punch used a model for mo-cap and voice, but we whined and then they bring back the old Cole...

house5763d ago

the only reason they did that is because i think the old cole died (voice actor)

itsralf5762d ago

Jason Cottle is very much alive.

rdgneoz35762d ago

The article does mention that part.

"Alongside the fresh moves, Sucker Punch enlisted the help of a new voice actor who could also do motion capture work for the sequel's 3D cutscenes. Thusly, to make the voiceover work appear more natural, the new look also reflected that voice actor's real-life looks."

karl5763d ago

i kinda liked the new cole =(

well.. im not going to complain, old cold is just fine.. and im sure it wont affect the final experience after all

ZBlacktt5763d ago (Edited 5763d ago )

Translation: You might have missed the point. When Dev's listen to the fans ( i.e. people that pay for their services ). Then it's a win win for all. I for one did not want to see a new Cole. There was simply no need for the change. I think it would have hurt that games series a great deal. People come to recognize characters and learn to love them or hate them. With Cole, he became a likeable good guy and bad guy. We could only wish more Dev's would listen straight from their fan base like this. If they did, we'd have a MGS5 with SNAKE and not some cheesy spin off with Raiden.

Unicron5763d ago

IF they're this willing to change their vision, I'll tell you right now, they weren't so deadset on the "new" vision from the outset then.

Heisenberg5762d ago (Edited 5762d ago )

I liked the original Cole personally, I feel like changing him would do nothing but help ruin the sense of continuity, not to mention we're all buying inFamous 2 because we loved 1, no need to fix the unbroken. But regardless, I think no matter what Cole looks like, it's going to be an exercise in badassery.

I haven't been at all concerned since I saw the first trailer, and neither should you be.... that's right I'm talking to YOU!

bjornbear5762d ago

so as long as the game remains as amazing at it looks to be, i'm fine with it. old cole or new cole, the game will remain the same, let suckerpunch do as they wish, its THEIR game, they choose if they want to listen to fans or not.

real gamers don't mind old or new cole, so as long as its COLE and good old infamous =)

Cots15763d ago

i still think they could let his hair grow through out the game, like why not

MicroSony4Life5763d ago

He got changed back because of the little kids crying about his new look.

Max Power5763d ago

His new look was terrible, and add on the new voice, and it wasn't even the same character.

MicroSony4Life5763d ago (Edited 5763d ago )

Ok, I admit that it was a bad move to chnage him completly and chnage his voice too. Its like playing the last Duke Nukem only to have Valve give us a Duke Nukem game with Duke sporting a mohawk and voiced by Samuel Jackson - can you imagine Sam Jackson screaming Hail to the King baby : )

But I see where the developers were going and they wanted to make Cole more mainstream looking.

Max Power5763d ago

I also understand where they were coming from as well, but after finishing the first game 4 times I got attached to who Cole was. And after I saw what they did to him, I was almost thought about not getting it.

Aclay5763d ago

"and it wasn't even the same character."

^^ That's the exact same reason why I wasn't a supporter of the new Cole with the longer hair that Sucker Punch showed off...he just looked like a completely different character period. I mean, in Uncharted 3 I don't want Naughty Dog to show off a completely different looking Nathan Drake that has facial features that doesn't even resemble how he looked in the previous games, and I felt the same about Cole.

Overrall I liked the new character design they showed off for Cole with the longer hair more than the old Cole look, but regardless I prefer that Sucker Punch keep Cole's design as close as possible to the first game so that it looks like I'm playing as the same guy and not a new character.

LeBart5763d ago

The listened to a very loud minority. New Cole looked fine.

Max Power5763d ago

The problem was, I think the most of the loudest fans were the die hard fans who completed the game multiple times for both the good and bad, and got swept into the world that was being shown.

lonix5763d ago (Edited 5763d ago )

The new Cole but they shouldn't have called him Cole
They could have just changed his name

MicroSony4Life5763d ago (Edited 5763d ago )

Start the birth of a new super Hero in the InFamus universe but give him new powers and still have Cole appear in some instances.

Off topic - am I the only one who thinks that the point to the Kick A$$ movie was to introduce the world to Hit Girl, then make another movie with her as a teenager or woman.

King_many_layers5763d ago

that doesn't make sense as part of a direct sequel. For example *SPOILER* the specific choices he made as Kes' so he would be ready and strong enough for the beast. As it states at the end.

I want it too. Make it co-op as well.

-Foxtrot1109d ago

Yeah they had a lightning bolt in the shape of a question mark at the end of Infamous 2

They always went off the good ending for Cole so I think for Delsin it should be the bad ending

What he did in the bad ending, absorbing everyone’s powers, seemed like he was going to turn into something powerful.

Makes you feel like he could have been the real Beast and John was just an anomaly because of them messing with time

Sets up a Cole vs Delsin showdown

lukasmain1109d ago

How would fans feel about a reboot? You know to bring a new audience in? Not a good idea? Good idea?

anast1108d ago

Not a god idea. They let it sit for too long and the game hasn't been strong enough to carry itself all these years. There is so much other stuff out there right now.

masterfox1109d ago

Second Son was released in 2014 was an amazing game visually and gameplay wise, sometimes I play it again on the PS5 and seeing it run at 60 fps is something to behold(yes an almost 10 year old game), if you haven't done that on your PS5 try it you won't be disappointed, pure eye candy, a PS5 exclusive of Infamous would be amazing no doubt.

gold_drake1109d ago

meh, i want Cole to come back.

or maybe a reboot. with cole.

Older PlayStation games that we'd love to see on the PlayStation 5

From Xfire: "For a company with a three-decade-long history in gaming, Sony has done a crappy job at preserving its legacy. "

If the PC can emulate the PS3, then for sure the PS5 would be able to do same. but dose Sony want it?

Mr Logic2162d ago

If there was money in it, then Sony would do it. People can bitch and moan all they want, but even if every person on this site used BC, that would still be a tiny fraction of gamers. Almost nobody really uses BC.

DethWish2162d ago (Edited 2162d ago )

I think there would be money if they made PS3 games downloadable through PSNow and added a bunch more.
Edit: I would get it if MGS4 was available

Mr Logic2161d ago

@DethWish

That would be an emulator. You're not making any sense.

DethWish2161d ago

Mr Logic, really? If PS5 could emulate PS3 games (BC) and PSNow would let you download and play PS3 games locally instead of streaming (like it lets you download PS4 games), wouldn't that be awesome? PSNow has some really interesting PS3 games, but I'd prefer to play them locally

MadLad2161d ago

Really?
Remasters of popular games do extremely well. MS basically hands them out for free. If people didn't want to play older games, then why do remasters sell so well?

anonymousfan2162d ago

I honestly would probably never ever use it... But I still think it would be pretty neat. Its one of the few avantages PC still has on console that is complete backwards compatibility. But for all the work needed to implement this I doubt it would be worth Sony's time.

Melankolis2161d ago

In my opinion.
The difference is independent emulator developer can build any emulator as an experiment that will be perfected for years, maybe more than 10 years. During that time, expect many glitch, bugs, and updates. They can do that because they do not have any obligation towards PC users or whatsoever.

Fos Sony, once they announce PS5 will be able to play PS3 games, they have to make it safe and playable for users. They do not want the emulator cause bricks, glitch, heating up or anything to the consoles and get sued for that.

Harkins17212161d ago

The amount of work it would require sony for each game probably isn't worth it. Maybe after rpcs3 is done they can patent it and use it. That's the dream lol

This has been going on for years any full game playable yet

EazyC2161d ago

Wish I never sold my PS3 for MGS IV alone, I'm dying to play it again

Gamerking822161d ago (Edited 2161d ago )

Any ps3 owner has too own this masterpiece . My disk drive has just gone on my old super slim . So I bought the digital version no questions ask . If you have a ps3 own this masterpiece that’s all I can say . I replay it every year and still find loads of enjoyment . The last true metal gear in my opinion . V was good and gameplay amazing , but it’s just not a metal gear quality story wise .
