Rely on Horror states: "Metroid, one of the most storied franchises in the history of gaming. The latest entry, Metroid Other M, in this long-lasting franchise will be hitting next Tuesday. It’s being, chronologically, planted as the narrative bridge between the SNES classic Super Metroid and the GBA’s Metroid: Fusion. Now if you’ve been following Rely on Horror for a while then you know we’ve never covered anything related to Metroid. I came upon this realization this morninng , amidst my rapidly growing anticipation for Other M , and I asked myself: Why is there no Metroid coverage on Rely on Horror? I mean all the horror influences are there intact so why not right? Let me introduce Metroid under a new light to all of you."

Super Metroid was a monumental triumph of interactive art, a game that achieved new heights in presentation, level design, and pacing, and despite a few flaws, manages to hold up astoundingly well to this day.

"30 years after its launch, however, Super Metroid for the SNES remains the undisputed king of the franchise in terms of its atmosphere and tone. " - Ollie Reynolds | NintendoLife
Fusion did a great job at it. Really love that horror feel with metroid. I mean you are completely alone on alien planets filled with horrific monsters and toxic environments.

Other nominees include games like SimCity & Tony Hawk's Pro Skater.
There are some good nominees in this list that are deserving to be inducted also, but I feel Metroid has had the most impact on the industry out of all of these. Look how Metroid influenced the evolution of the Castlevania games, and the "Metroidvania" subgenre of games have become a prevailing force in gaming today. Especially now, Metroidvanias are bigger than ever.
I can very much see Resident Evil being added later too, bc it really did popularize and define the survival horror genre. I would say that one is next in line.
If any Metroid game should get the honor it should be Super Metroid , it's perfection in my eyes . 30 years later and I still feel it's the most epic shit ever .
The GBA remake deserves it or Super Metroid, the original was a very sloppy and rushed game programmed in 3 months and it shows.
If you've never played the remake, it's absolutely a must play, fixes basically every flaw in the game. Check out ExoParadigmGamer's comparison video.
Horror games usually scare me with their cheap tricks (well, I haven't played some of the really scary ones), but some of the elements in the Metroid Prime series has had me genuinely scared. The first prime game when you knock out the power in the space pirates pendrana base, everything goes dark, you have rely on your thermal visor, Metroid and that horrible screech start breaking out and attacking you, and they introduce the invisible enemies (well, they're actually invisible this time). Also, any time you're on Dark Aether before the light suit, because the world your on's atmosphere is poisonous.
I can see the connection between Metroid and Dead Space
