For the last time....cant we just wait till both games come out? neither of them are finished and im pretty sure both will look better come release time. That being said, both games look stunning no doubt about it. RAGE is gorgeous and i wish they would let all multiplat devs use this engine instead of unreal.

Rages wins purely because it looks as good if not better than K3 AND runs at 60fps.

There wont ever be a game on consoles that will surpass KZ's lighting. But my god, RAGE looks so gorgeous, and to think it'll be at 60 FPS too...

Killzone 3 lacks detail

really looking forward to both have no opinion on the graphics of these games both will be amazing titles.

i think Killzone 3 takes it in terms of higher graphical levels but that doesn't mean that rage isn't a top contender in fact its really close! You may have some scene that looks amazing and never seen anything like before on RAGE
You have to consider that RAGE is able to produce such colorful and solid graphics while being able to run it in 60FPS, Its exploration is also really massive, the scale of the game am assuming is really huge when compared to KZ3.

Nevertheless both games will be epic, i just can't wait for both of these to hit the retailers! it may drop my uni grades haha

I think it only matters if you have a system that is not a PS3. I can get KZ3 in March and buy Rage later in the fall. Who cares which is slightly betrer than the other? Killzone 2 looked better than Resistance 2 and I still brought both. As for PC and 360 owners, carry on.

The comparisons these sites come up with are so stupid. You are comparing the graphics of two games with different art styles.

If these pics are PC vs. PS3 then that certainly confirms the "BEAST" status of the PS3. If these pics are from the PS3 version of Rage then ID has done a good job but not quite exceeded KZ3.

The real test will be when all is said and done we look at the PS3, 360 and a comparable spec PC version of Rage and compare them all to KZ3, I think we will have a repeat of people putting their foot in their mouth like we did with KZ2.

One of the KZ3 pics is of the multiplayer, it is astonishing that it still holds up so well. KZ3 is def set to raise the bar once again, we should all rejoice.

rage looks great and clean.but i have yet to see massive firefights.killzone3 looks great but dirty.the way war is supposed to be.

The random fact that they had to point out that "Guerrilla says K3 will use close to 100% of the PS3's power" seems to me as if the article is hinting that if Rage could look almost as good as K3, then the 360 can do anything the PS3 can. Why is there even a comparison between the two?

I am afraid that Rage might have lots of repetition scenarios ,monsters,etc because it will be limited to a one 6.8G Xbox360DVD instead the ~27G that the devs had planned initially.

BTW I remember they saying that the 360 version of this game will be in two discs and one of those will be just for the online gameplay.
I am quite sure that because of this the game had to be shrunk some how .

No doubt that Rage will be a great game but my vote goes to Kz3 since it seems to be a 30G+ game and will have less scenarios repetition, more characters details and more effects happening on the screen at same time.

With two obvious different art styles and color palettes to control the mood, etc. Killzone, kinda greyish war torn looking which is to be expected. Rage looks good with a brighter color palette, reminds me of a Borderlands on steroids, which is a great thing... I'm still playing Borderlands right now.

In this Rage ss below, just take a look at the floors, walls, pipes on the right. It's LOW RESOLUTION TEXTURING. Kz2 had the same, but cleverly placed and disguised so they weren't that visible and irritating. Kz3 will have the same. But again - smarter camouflage.

It's simple facts visible to the naked eye, it's nothing bad or game-killing as every game still has a lot of 2d textures that should've been 3d objects.

Rage, whilst not a's good looking as Killzone 3, Impresses me more, this is due to the fact that it's a Multiplatform, Open-World title running at 60 FPS whilst maintaining those fantastic Graphics...

Killzone 3 will have more filter-rape shaders.

In most of these screens we are seeing close quarters with Rage and open environment with KZ3. Also in almost every screen we are seeing much more particle effects, explosions, action in KZ3. Undoubtedly Rage is going to be an off the wall good game but as far as these screens are concerned there is no contest. Would of liked to see KZ3 hit 60 fps mark but with graphics and action this explosive it can be forgiven.

i will go with Killzone 3 because Rage was played from a debug 360 console that developers have ,on that console you played it form the HDD without any disc inside,putting the game on multiple discs means the files needs to be compressed,compression means loss in quality

KILLZONE tries to portray the "grime of war" and succeeds.
RAGE tries to do go for a different look and also succeeds.

PERSONALLY, judging by these screens, I favour KZ3 because I love that 'dirty' and 'used' look the games have. I also prefer the gun models - RAGE, despite being post-apocalyptic, looks too 'clean' to me in a way that's tough to articulate; everything looks new, even things with 'dirty' textures... Still, it is pretty slick though, so I'll be buying both!

Beware guys because if the PC gamers read your comments. They are gonna say Rage automatically has better graphics. Just because they can play it in 1920x1080. As if HD resolutions and graphics are exactly the same thing.

Not only does KZ3 look better than rage, but there is way more going on onscreen in KZ3 than in rage (explosions, particle effectds, etc.) making KZ3 that much more impressive.

i'm a ps3 fan - the boy, but i think all but the 4th pick rage won... now if that was the pc version on ridiculous specs that's one thing, but rage looked more crisp and detailed... but just like k2... u can't tell in a screen shot that is taking while the player is moving, cause of the awesome motion blur... its going to be interesting if rage ends up looking better than k3 on the consoles... what rage can't TOUCH tho is in that 4th pick, particle effects... blowing $hit up looks better in k2, and if we have a truly sunny setting THEN we can test the shadowing and lighting... these screens are not enough to come to any conclusion... i just think those rage shots looks incredible...i also think those k3 screens look incredible too... I'M buying them both, who cares lol

the thing about rage is that its open world, colorful and runs at 60fps. kz3 is linear, dark and gritty, and runs at 32 fps but is also 3d. but i would say kz3 since its linear and you can add more detail in.

Both these games are both outstanding. But you have to take into consideration that there both very differnt devs. ID has been working on engines and good ones at that since i got into pc's going on quake days. ID.
so they know good engines and they build engines based on there games. so this will look good on all formats. cos it was built for that.
that being said gorilla games isnt a novice when it comes to developing engines eaither.thoe they do not have the timeline like ID has.they have got playstation hardware knowledge so that gives them the edge over ID.
graphicly both look great but for me because the huge gameplay killzone 3 has example levels. multiplayer. possible co-op thoe not sure on that yet. Shoot i still cant say. cos i know ID's engines and games they do dam good job. and killzone 2 was awsome. ok i cant say by graphics but gameplay killzone 3 for me.

Rage looks a different sort of sell shaded to me(more detailed, not as much as most shell shaded games), and Killzone 3 uses more realism. So I don't feel they can be compared. Rage reminds me of Borderlands with a less shell shaded look.

Rage uses MegaTexture (128000×128000 pixels), just the style of that makes it look different. You won't see the same texture work over and over in Rage, it should always look different.

I think Rage looks more interesting. Why? Because they both obviously look GORGEOUS. But when it comes down to little graphical discrepancies, I think Rage just looks...fresher. John Carmack's newest idea. I like seeing NEW IPs advance instead of just sequels after sequels.

KZ3 actually doesn't interest me at all. I'm sure it's going to be great. It DOES look incredible. The 3D is probably going to be mind-blowing.

They both look good, but it's hard to compare them. Rage is slightly more crisp because it uses less motion blur and weathering effects than Killzone. However, Killzone's character detail and post-processing effects are extraordinary. I'd say that they are about equal in terms of graphics. Although, looking at the AI and technical aspects of the games, I think that id are better at programming, so their AI and "MegaTexture" technology should be very well done.

Geeze, as usual some fanboys have to place a direct competition to a new PS3 game. Alan Wake Uncharted, Metro 2033 to Killzone 2, Splinter Cell to MGS4, Prototype to Infamous, etc. They shut up about it after their expectation falls short. And mostly multiplats too! When will those idiots ever learn.... Just enjoy the game.

kz3 looks alot better, there is no competition. have played both at gemescom.

I think it all comes down to lighting and camera-work at the end. I mean just look at Uncharted 2, asides from the character models everything is bright as hell and more vivid ergo it cant look bad...

This is a bit unfair. RAGE is open-wold while KZ3 is linear. RAGE looks awesome for an open-world game. I hope it plays as well as it looks. KZ3 will be awesome no doubt.

Kz3 is superior in my opinion (more appealing art style for me) Gritty. But what really gets at me is that a PS3 game is actually being compared to a no doubt about it "High Spec" PC with the game running at high levels. That in itself makes me have to give it to Kz3 all the way. Not too mention Kz3 has "ALOT" more going on at all times, Cant wait 4 it! :D

Killzone looks a lot better, what's impressive about Rage aren't the visuals. In fact Rage looks very similar how Borderlands once did, you know, before they decided to change the entire game and make it cell shaded.

What's impressive about Rage is the 60FPS.

I also think I prefer Rages artstyle. Of course Rage has an artstyle and killzone is just shooting for realism, so that makes the shots difficult to compare, and things easier on Rage because you can compare Killzone to real life, but not the same case with Rage. So rage has no point of reference, so to speak.

lol. I like how the ps3 fanboys quickly came to the rescue on this one. KZ3 does NOT look better. It's been beat by rage from what i can see. KZ3 looks more like KZ2 which was dull, plain and boring. By the way i got no interest in either one of these titles but give credit where credit is due. Rage wins.

Why argue? KZ3 Rage and Crysis 2 can be played on PS3 and are all top dogs in graphics and notice how nobody bothers to put reach beside these games????

Rage @ 60fps, Killzone 3 @ 30fps or close if the first game was anything to go on, doesn't take a rocket scientist to work out if ID caped the id tech 5 engine at 30fps and used the extra resource's to bump up the detail they could easily achieve a better looking game. But at the moment killzone just looks better.

... in technical achievements, then 3 will be amazing! kz2's visuals( regardless of the developmental "cheats" used)are amazing, the 7.1 sound is amazing, the A.I. is amazing, the multiplayer top notch, the hit detection is spectacular, animations top notch! dont get me wrong, it had its flaws too.. the dialogue in single player was atrocious! loading between sections was broken, over all though, it will always be in my collection as a stellar game!

Personally I prefer Killzone but both look pretty awesome. The explosion comparison really tipped the scales for me, and it was even more impressive in motion.

what I would really like to see is how Rages explosions look compared to KZ3s... cuz from tha screenshots KZ3s explosions r on point IMO. p.s. and for tha record, tha fact that Rage can hold its own in terms of graphics with tha likes of a game like KZ3 is impressive for me and I'm a playstation enthusiast

If we are comparing pixels or some complicated graphical coding behind the game, then the article should just list numbers and stats, because that is the only real way you can compare it.

I knew it. We were fed the PC shots from the beginning. With Rage i am sure i will have to upgrade my PC. I might get it for PS3 but then again Crysis 2 is comming out next year as well.

Not hating on KZ3, but they got Rage to work on an iphone at 60 fps, thats gotta mean something. Both looks great, Rage seems to look a bit more fluid though.

Rage runs in 60 frames by sacrificing a lot: object motion blur, destructible environments, particle and post-processing effects, and most of all dynamic lighting.

Take away all those features from KZ3 and I'll guarantee it will also run 60 frames without a sweat.

Anywho, both games look amazing, I'll get them both! I win.

Come on, the particle effects are here in KZ to hide what they can't achieve with their engine. That ws the case some years ago with the blur and HDR. It's all about particles now...
Carmack set the bar really really high for his first version of idTech 5, on each picture, KZ really don't beat Rage here.

Killzone 3 is running at 120fps with 3D shutter technology, and still looks good. Imagine if they didn't compromise the graphics.

how many of you P.C owners will own a pc that can run Rage at that level of detail with a steady frames per second rate. Not as many as there will be PS3 owners who will all run Killzone 3 on a level playing field.

Dont delude yourself. I own a good gaming rig. I would put money on it it wont run Rage as steady Killzone 3 on my PS3.
