PlatinumGames talks Vanquish's PS3/360 differences

"While the Vanquish engine is based on work done on Bayonetta, it was for that reason that we had a lot of work to do changing things for this project. For instance, we completely rewrote the renderer, implementing a technique known as “deferred rendering.” I think the new renderer turned out quite well."

"So no matter which console you have, you have nothing to worry about"

TheHater5735d ago

The final Product usually prove this developer BS. I will believe it when I see it.

AndrewRyan5735d ago

He didn't say there will be no difference for sure, he said little or no difference. There is a sense of insecurity, which means he is also being modest, which means the game won't be as bad as bayonetta on PS3, but still bad.

MmaFanQc5735d ago

so we will be able to see if it on par so far

nveenio5735d ago

We've heard this soooo many times.... In fact, we've heard it EVERY time. The only people that never mentioned a difference were COD:MW and Oblivion. And both of those games were more on par with each other than the next games from their developers (MW2 and Fallout 3).

jarrod19815735d ago

if there is a difference it probably wont even matter. i bought rdr on ps3 and then saw all the articles saying the 360 version was superior but it still looked great to me and didnt affect the game at all. enjoyed every mnute of it.. people make way to much of this stuff

AKS5734d ago

Most of the "major" differences cited in the lame comparison articles seem marginal to me. PC games may demonstrate massive upgrades in visuals, but PS3 and 360 games usually look similar these days. I LOL every time a reviewer has to do a closeup of pixels of grass or textures or point out a missing static shadow in a level to "prove" a massive difference exists. Or when people try to quickly backtrack and say "I knew it all along" if one version is discovered to have slightly lower resolution (which may actually have less of a visual than detail, post processing, AA, or other factors in many cases).

DigitalAnalog5734d ago (Edited 5734d ago )

Watch it, man. THIS IS MIKAMI we're talking about. Not some slooze-ball from that "Optimized-but-can't- do-grass-on-PS3" from a 3rd party team.

-End statement

Lifendz5734d ago

I was excited for this game until I saw who was developing it. Great dev studio but, as a PS3 only owner, I was concerned. I'll def wait for the reviews and maybe a rental before picking it up. Game looks dope though.

mastiffchild5734d ago

Honestly, I ended up with a copy of Bayonetta on both PS3 and 360(for free on both occasions luckily!)and even pre patch the differences I experienced were negligible to my eyes and certainly not worth a fraction of the internet moaning that went on and puzzles me to this day. All I got was some slowdown and longer loads on PS3 and that's the version I stuck with because those things amounted to way less than having the game available to play with my preferred controller. In fact there was only The Orange Box which I deceded was actually THAT bad of the games I was interested in from the console multis to bother changing my console of choice for them-because generally these differences would never be noticed with naked eye-Mafia2, mind, is an odd one with the blood.

Secondly, and after that patch the loads were no longer imo, Platinum never did the Bayo port so there's reason to think they won't do a good job this time, is there?

This is what every Dev says and unfortunately a lot of the times its a lie

zeddy5734d ago

same ol story the 360 version will be superior but even still bayonetta sold more copies when it was a collosal piece of porting bullcrap.

Persistantthug5734d ago

They were so shamed and embarrassed about Bayonetta, even lost sales and critical Acclaim, that they seem genuine in their quest to right their wrong.

What did they do wrong? They ignored all the tips and hints in lead developing for the PS3 in the first place in spite of being a JAPANESE based developer.

They were foolish and they know it, and every chance they get they are right there letting us know that this game isn't a lazy port, but a game led developed for the PS3.

They don't want the same embarrasment twice in a row.

Unfortunately, Mafia 2 developers (Czech 2K) didn't take heed and had to learn this lesson. However, the sting for them won't be as profound since MAFIA 2 isn't a AAA scoring game anyways.

Some developers learn faster than others, it seems.

Megaton5735d ago

I'll believe it when they deliver it. They said the same thing about Bayonetta, and even guaranteed 60FPS locked for both versions.

ActionBastard5735d ago

Exactly. But there is a good chance they could deliver with Vanquish leading on PS3 during development.

jack_burt0n5735d ago (Edited 5735d ago )

did not realise there was already a walkthrough of the demo on ps3

http://g4tv.com/videos/4675...

looks great

@sodapop
not really watch the demo run through ps3 version is the superiors.

DelbertGrady5735d ago (Edited 5735d ago )

Good thing there's no foliage in space.

Yet, seeing as how Bayonetta was crap on the PS3 I think it's only fair to hold ones breath until the game is out and we can see for ourselves.

scofios5735d ago

@Soda
Well if the ps3 version of vanquish turns out to be crap , than the version your going to play on your 360 will be crap to, because it will be a port from the ps3 version .

Redlogic5735d ago

judging by your first sentence we know you'd be a pig in shit if the ps3 version wasn't as good which in my opinion is quite lame of you.

mrmikew20185734d ago

Come on guys, you do know the PS3 was the lead platform for this title.

bilbobob5734d ago

Something different for sure. also a third person shooter. I like third person shooters and should make some more on this genre.

isnt this the same technique that KZ2 and possibly KZ3 uses?

darkequitus5735d ago

Loads of games uses this: UC, Gears (for shadows), Crackdown, RDR, GTAIV, Crysis, LBP, Starcraft II, InFamous. It is all the rage now.

carreirabr5735d ago

Most of these games use a hibrid solution, a deferred/forward renderer.

The only full g-buffer deferred engines I can remember are the Killzone 2/3 and Stalker/Metro 2033.

Vanquish looks like a hibrid too, deferred for all realtime shadows and lots of dynamic lights. Did anyone spot any glass or other transparent/translucid material in any video?

sayonara895735d ago

hybrid solution is called light pre-pass. Are you sure that 360 ver of M2033 is using full deffered rendering? Edram is limiting this technique on 360.

Redempteur5735d ago

as long as they learned from the awefull bayonetta START ( on PS3 ) ..it's alright in my book .they rewrote the PS3 renderer from nothing ... i can't wait to see how it look with the demo

2FootYard5735d ago

I love you Platinum! Lets have kids!

poopface15735d ago

I just played bayonetta recently and it was pretty good. Im looking forward to seeing more on this.

aceofspades5735d ago

this game is being made on the ps3 and ported to xbox360 right?

jack_burt0n5735d ago

doesn't appear so unfortunately although it was claimed ps3 was lead platform.

aceofspades5735d ago

yea ;) i just hope more ps3 games are the lead platform to make games on.

Naughty Dog5735d ago (Edited 5735d ago )

Well at least they are both developed at the same time unlike Bayonetta which was just a port from another dev team. If there are differences, it won't be as big.

Look I know VIII has its issues and all that but how on earth can the do big anniversary events with new artwork and merchandise for VII, IX and X yet VIII got sweet f*** all.

They could have given it something during its 25th anniversary yet all it got was a single Happy Anniversary post on their social media.

solideagle9d ago

they should know that we are OG fans of VIII as it sold truckload as well. not as much as VII or X. I personally didn't like IX but X and VI are my personal fav.

Shadow Hearts 2 covenant is another game I love. I hope one day someone can make remake, I would be delighted

Underrated comment. I used to hate that game so much that any time my siblings asked me to play it, I just picked Hom and shut myself down mid-match.

PlayStation legend Shuhei Yoshida says Jim Ryan fired him because he didn't listen to him

Why did Sony push Shuhei Yoshida out of his role leading PlayStation's first-party games? He'd overseen some huge successes. Well, apparently, he didn't listen.

Relientk7718d ago

Yeah I can see that for sure. Shuhei Yoshida should have been in charge not Jim Ryan.

Cacabunga17d ago

It should be free highway for him now.. but Sony are too stupid to see this, especially that moron Hulst

S2Killinit17d ago (Edited 17d ago )

Wtf why all that anger. PlayStation is dominating on every level. Besides I think there is a little more to hiring a CEO than just who is available. Its not like its a athlete your team wants to buy.

neutralgamer199217d ago

S2Killinit

live service failures, chasing trends, closing studios. yes dominating

Cacabunga17d ago

Sony is Dominating because competition is not existing. Compared to previous gens this is the poorest in terms of software offerings.

Last gen we got Uncharted 4 Lost Legacy and TLOU2 from ND alone.

This is so far a remasters gen, with no competition to lift up the quality

1nsomniac17d ago (Edited 17d ago )

..."PlayStation is dominating on every level"....

...Really???

PlayStation are soon heading into a new generation in the not to distant future. They currently have the worst customer satisfaction they've ever sustained as a company. The company is heading for a huge crash while at the same time they'll need to be planning how they are going to try and win back that favour and the build up to their new releases.

Yes financially they're winning but they're going to have to ride out this complete public corporate disaster. No one has faith in the company or the product anymore. They've damaged their public image so much this generation. Greed can kill anyone.

medman17d ago

Hulst is a disaster......

blacktiger17d ago

He would've done the same thing and fire Jim Ryan and Shuhei would be the villain. Why?
Because Elite creates the narrative and distraction for gamers, users and citizens.

Outside_ofthe_Box18d ago

More confirmation that Jim Ryan is the culprit for what has happened to Sony. Hulst needs to go too. What sucks is that a lot of the good top heads at Sony are no longer there. I wish that guys that were forced out prematurely by Dumbo Jimbo like Shuhei and Layden came back.

robtion17d ago

Yep. Yoshida was responsible for bringing one of the best games of this generation to playstation (Stellar Blade). He is an actual gamer and is in touch with what gamers want (creative, fun games, not GaaS and agenda pushing). He also seems like a genuinely nice guy if you watch some interviews. Of course they got rid of him.

darthv7217d ago

Makes you wonder if MS even thought about hiring him after Phil and Sarah were leaving. He certainly couldn't make their situation any worse.

Agent7517d ago

Microflop. After Windows XP and Xbox 360, it all went floppy.

S2Killinit17d ago

Floppy 😆
No pun intended

badz14917d ago

Yoshida for President! Jim Ryan was and always be a hack! Sony should get Shu back

Lightning7717d ago

All the gamer/consumer lead heads are gone across PS and Xbox. shuhei gone phil's gone (questionable) but gone. The future of gaming is somewhat uncertain across the board.
