Motion controls are not the future

Do any of these "games" look fun? Let's not forget that this industry is about the games, not the control schemes! A rant about motion controls invading your games.

big_silky5755d ago

They're the future but I think they need a couple more years in the oven.

Dramscus5754d ago

I'm totally down with move. I'm going to be doing all my shooting with it I think.

N4g_null5754d ago

We don't need an oven we need people that can do more than mod fps engines. I just put transformers in my laptop and some of the most deTailed graphics booted. Yet the game play was like every thing else. Now if I liked gears of war or uncharted I guess I would be happy but really this game could have used some thing new.

The hardcore are the ones claiming they don't want any thing new. They don't want new systems or new game types or even new players.

Obviously they are not that logical nor do they care about gaming just reveng against gamers on the Internet that are actualy ps3 owners now. Ironic huh? It's no wonder ps3 owners are seen as the worst fan boys maybe because they where xbox 360 owners first.

Any motion control will get another reboot on the next nintendo console. I'm thinking move will hurt hardcore motion control gaming when you begin to see the same limitations of the wii motion plus.

The only problem is nintendo is the only company that does a wide variety motion controlled game play well. Ms and sony's stuff is ambitious with out the excution much like the core issue with their console presents which is over shadow by their tech or feature ideas. These guys still fail at making fun games.

Motion controls are not the future.. instead it's going to be like Surrogates. Where your mind is actually in the game instead of playing in the real world. Pretty much the 'Playstation 9' trailer.

Hairy Chewie5754d ago

Yeah, but it's not going to be some magic leap to that point. Motion controls are PART of the future until there is technology that can read you brain patterns acurately enough.

ONYX7375755d ago (Edited 5755d ago )

Motion controls are more like a step towards something new. just like controllers having more buttons and 2 analog sticks. I couldn't imagine playing current games on an nes pad or atari joystick.

matey5754d ago

Remember who started every control scheme out there Nintendo yes they have always been the inventors of controls this is why Iwata recently said the next Console and Controls are getting patented all over enough said SONY/MICROSOFT wont be able to imitate there next Console 1 bit and if Ninty are making sure its protected before even letting us know what there doing concept ect expect something beyond the imagination of SONY/MICROSOFT FACT.

boodybandit5754d ago (Edited 5754d ago )

By control scheme do you mean the device in hand to play their video games on Nintendo made consoles? If that is what you are getting at please provide us this list of all their innovations. I would love to see them because I am hard pressed to remember any of them that I have not seen or heard of before Nintendo implemented them.

Oh and BTW. You think patents are a good thing for the most miniscule of changes to a gaming device? IMO I think those patents are horrible because it holds back the industry as a whole. Companies have to spend more time and money using R&D and getting advice from their lawyers instead of creating new games and genre's.

Let the games created do your talking and not what a button press, motion of your body, movement of a stick or device, will work in a game.

AWBrawler5754d ago

nintendo introduced the following to home consoles and portables: D-pad, shoulder buttons, analog sticks, rumble feedback, touchscreen, microphones (famicom had this built in the control), Motion controls (Power glove says "Hi") and more cameras

ChickeyCantor5754d ago

you were almost correct brawler,
Atari had the first motion control i believe.

And i totally forgot about the Gameboy Camera, i even own one lol.

aceofspades5755d ago

Fishy Fingers5754d ago

A group of surgeons made headlines after they managed to perform an endoscopic procedure on a pig located in Hong Kong by using PlayStation controllers. It involved the use of a PS5 DualSense controller as well as a PlayStation Move controller.

jznrpg590d ago

There is at least a few good jokes that could come from that title

Cacabunga589d ago

Yet another powerful device Sony gave up supporting. KZ3 move was one of the best motion controller implementation ever

just_looken589d ago

Right the ps move was awesome i have the gun thing from killzone still.

Relientk77590d ago

That's really cool. It's crazy something like that is possible with gaming controllers 1000's of miles away.

Lexreborn2589d ago

Guess that submarine should’ve used move controllers instead of logitech
