How Bioware Can Fix Mass Effect 2 PS3

Since Mass Effect 1 was published by Microsoft Game Studios; it is literally impossible to publish it on the PS3. The second one was published by EA, there’s a lot of creative distribution whacky whacky googlies that stop Bioware pumping out the first one on the PS3. So, how can they bring new players up to speed with the lore of Mass Effect while not alienating the cross-platform players or those wanting to experience a different platform?

Time to do some research people. Mass Effect 1 was only published by Microsoft on the 360. The PC version was published by Electronic Arts.

The decision not to bring Mass Effect to the PS3 is likely development/money based rather than exclusivity. The older version of the U3 engine used in ME1 wasn't very PS3 friendly and would require a great deal more recoding and engineering to port over assets. From a financial investment point of view, what Bioware have decided to do makes more sense.

Be aware they also have to get PS3 gamers up to speed before ME3 is announced. Dropping two games on the market doesn't allow enough time. Also, putting both on one disc and charging the right price doesn't allow a satisfactory percentage of the dev investment for ME1 to be recouped while still providing a profit.

Uh... nevermind just do some more research.

Skullsmasher:

You guys still believe that just because Mass Effect 2 went multiplatform, Left 4 Dead 1&2 will become also? EA decide which Bioware games goes to which platform but in the Left 4 Dead case, Valve is the one who's in order. Get a PC and play Left 4 Dead instead of trolling.

Hades13375747d ago

Why didn't they do it ages ago then before Mass Effect 2 was released? Obviously Microsoft had an exclusivity deal in place, which is why the PS3 version of Mass Effect 2 is coming a year after the 360 version. Don't be surprised if we see the same outcome for Mass Effect 3.

T9X695747d ago (Edited 5747d ago )

It might be exclusive to 360 at first, I highly doubt it though, but if EA doesn't release ME3 on PS3 at all, then ME2 is just a slap in the face to PS3 owners for EA to get more money.

asyouburn5747d ago

i never thought we'd actually get ME2, so even if ME3 never comes, i'm happy.

morganfell5747d ago

Bioware is has already remarked that multiplatform is the future for Mass Effect 3. If anything, Sony might be the ones to swoop in and get some type of exclusivity.

nickjkl5747d ago

i didnt know it was broken (Mass Effect Ps3 version)

Hades13375747d ago

It sounds to me like you don't really care about Mass Effect 2 and are only concerned about the fact it's now on PS3 and you have "bragging rights" over 360 owners. The fact is that Mass Effect 2 is a nigh-on perfect game for the 360, and taking it to the PS3 doesn't affect the quality of the PS3 version by any means.

Also I wouldn't wait on Left 4 Dead 1 and 2 for PS3, Valve are clearly busy on other projects to bother porting it (unless EA does it, but we know how that will turn out).

Weaksauce11385747d ago

Bioware just needs to become more familiar with the PS3, Dragon Age was a technical nightmare with framerate issues and freezes galore.

Oh and how can anyone think a $60 release of a year old game that goes for about $35 as having free DLC? Logic does not compute. Maybe after another 6 months after its released and the price drops to a 360 version parity it will be free DLC, but then again... there will probably be a GOTY edition by then.

FACTUAL evidence5747d ago

I just want it to be on par, if not better than the 360 version and I'm good. Nothing less of the 360's and I'll get it day one.

BrianB5747d ago

boy are you in for dissapointment then

HDgamer5747d ago

It'll be better just look at dragon age. Also I would be saying on par with the pc version.

Baka-akaB5747d ago

so far the bioware ps3 games , or rather dragon age , easily outshone the 360 version .

I wouldnt be surprised if the port is between pc and 360 versions , bonus content aside

AKS5747d ago

On par with the PC version? WTF?!

Weaksauce11385747d ago

PS3 graphics had a slight edge over 360 but the PS3 had framerate issues and constnat freezing to the point it needed a patch just to reduce the occurance. Hardly a better port, but it did make for better screenshots.

Although in an ideal situation PS3 recieves both mass effect games, Having ME2 is obviously a great deal better for the consumer and for sony than not having the franchise at all. It was certainly a big console exclusive for microsoft that sold many 360s. No longer.

Mass effect 3 will undoubtably end up on PS3 and this is just as important too. Microsoft had taken away many games that historically had been hosted only on sony's machines, so this is a reversal of fortunes for one of the biggest new names of this console generation.

pork_chop_express5747d ago

mass effect 2 on bluray is just delicious no two ways about it and hours of bonus content.

the other factor is getting the definitive console versions of mass effect 2, deadspace 2, dead space extraction, and portal 2 all in one month that is just EA bringing the goodness to ps3.

Gaystation 35747d ago

Morganfail! Why waste your time making that post?

Mass Effect is not coming out for the PS3, that is the important thing. Why make a troll post against Microsoft?

You do know that publishing aside, Mass Effect was a collaboration between Microsoft Game Studios and Bioware. MGS provided Bioware with money, tech and personnel.

Keep on Truck... I mean trolling.

bilbobob5746d ago

with the obviously best avatar for been a Troll. D*ckhead.

Is your Ass sore because Ps3 got a franchise flowing in a direction you dont like.

go find your dummy! I think I saw you spit it out across the floor.

Oh and actually I think that PS3 looks nice in pink.

Haven't played ME2 yet. Will probably wait for the PS3 version because it will contain extras and probably all DLC to date.

PimpHandHappy5747d ago

REALLY

looking 4ward to playing this game

IMO its the only franchise the 360 had that i wanted!!! I dont play PC

Montoya5747d ago (Edited 5747d ago )

It definitely was best reason to own a 360, no doubt about that. IMO, anyway.

Mamajuana5747d ago

I was going to purchase a 360 to play Mass Effect. No need for that anymore.

Scotland-The-Brave5747d ago

I was going to do the same thing, although i still want to play fable

mike90775747d ago

i find it retarded that its gonna b full price on the ps3 and cheaper on the 360 so i wont buy the game for full price no way think ill wait til it goes down like tthe 360 version

Baka-akaB5747d ago (Edited 5747d ago )

i wouldnt say it's cheaper with the cost of the dlcs . And you dont even know yet what additional bonus the ps3 version is getting .

Hell all i know is , i'll buy it for the second time

PotNoodle5747d ago

Why? The reason the price is reduced on the 360 and PC versions is down to the retailers (mostly) and the fact they know only few people will buy it after a certain time.

The game isn't any less worth the value asked once it is on the PS3, the game is the same (with extra content).

Roozium5747d ago

I don't think that 10000 million people will buy it day one. I don't even think that it will sell 1 million copies in 3 months. The hype is dead.

AKS5747d ago

Really? What if Mass Effect 2 wins dozens of 2010 GotY awards? The PS3 version will be released on January 2011, which sounds like pretty spectacular timing.

Legion, Zaeed, and Jack are my favorites.

RiseNShine524d ago

To think that Bioware at some point was capable of doing games like this, you see those characters and remember them like good old friends, and now check ME Andromeda, Anthem, Veilguard etc and wonder what the hell happened.

anast524d ago

They lost too much talent.

IAMRealHooman524d ago

some in andromeda are decent, I agree with peebee and Vetra being good companions. Except Liam he's trash tier

"I started playing games yesterday" the List... Meh!

How about a few RPGs that deserve some love instead?
1 - Alpha Protocol - Now on GOG
2 - else Heart.Break()
3 - Shadowrun Trilogy
4 - Wasteland 2
5 - UnderRail
6 - Tyranny
7 - Torment: Tides of Numenera

And for a bonus game that flew under the radar:
8 - Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden

DustMan772d ago

Loved Alpha Protocol in all it's glorious jank. Great game.

SimpleSlave772d ago (Edited 772d ago )

Not only glorious jank, but the idea that the story can completely change depending on what you do, or say, or side with, makes it one of the most forward thinking games ever. The amount of story permutation is the equivalent of a Hitman level but in Story Form. And it wasn't just that the story changed, no, it was that you met completely new characters, or missed them, depending on your choices. Made Mass Effect feel static in comparison.

Alpha Protocol was absolutely glorious, indeed. And it was, and still is, more Next Gen than most anything out there these days. In this regard at least.

Pity.
