I'm glad my PS3 hasn't broken down despite my room being so hot this summer. I don't know what I would do if I had to send it in and wait for weeks for it to come back. A day without gaming is alright but a week or more is torture.

Well the Playstation 3 is designed to generate far less heat, but I'm surprised that they had that fat-ass going in a sauna! Btw, I believe that there was a guy who had his PS3 folding for the 5th month in a row, though that's a rumor and could easily be BS.

LOL these guys are insane. What about the "Placed in the Gulf of Mexico for 4 hours" test? Boy, this sure does add additional peace of mind to this rock solid hardware.

Edit: Armyless i don't want to say anything bad about mine xbox360 - don't want to break the luck seal ;) , but the sad part is, my friend received a brand new xbox360 as exchange for his broken one, he just tuned it on, could't even create a profile and got RROD... MS hasn't even got this kind of tests, otherwise there wouldn't be so much problems with the xbox...

There is no way I would buy a 360. It's like buying a Hyundai, it may have good support with 100,000 mile, 10 year warranty but it still doesn't change the fact it's a POS. So you Xbox fanboys can keep buying into the Red Ring of Death. What good is it to have a system with all these good games if you can't play them have the time. It's sad. I know several people with 360s and each one of them had to send it in for repairs, some twice. Sorry, for me that's bad. For me, reliablity is important to me.

Back when I bought my 360 when it first came out everyone was like why did you buy that, you know back when kameo and the rest of the crappy games was all you could buy...but soon everyone had one, and now everyone's is breaking just like mine! I know lots of people with new elites that have scrapped it and bought a ps3 because they arn't made cheap like my windows vista!

I'm really happy someone did a test like this to so how well made the PS3 is, now the only thing thats left is for someone to run the same test on a 360 and do another test where with both consoles side by side. I've always thought and said that the 360 is a great system but the truth is its a rush product, they should been working on it longer instead of worrying about being out first.

360 fanboys always say that the PS3 has no games, well what about all the games that are coming out starting this month(Warhawk,Lair,Heavenly Sword,Haze,Uncharted: Drake's Fortune,Unreal Tournament 3)and thats not even all of them. So after all these games come out what are those 360 fanboys are going to say then. When you think about it the 360 had one good most have game when it first came out COD2 thats it then it was GEARS and that was a year afterwards. So its the same for the PS3, PS3 owner are lucky that their system is built better and more reliable.

Down how to kill a XBox 360 considering no one needs to kill it since it kills itself and infact everybody here can agree that BioShock and Gears of War is much better on the PC anyway when considering you can maximize its potential on your PC.

My PS3 has not crashed or overheated at all. It is the most reliable console i have ever had. My wii is also reliable but i never play it so there is no way it is going to crash. My Xbox 360 has not gotten the rrod yet...but i never play it for fear it is going to crash.

The PS3 is played everyday...and folds at home when not playing.
Once warhawk comes out in a few weeks...i will be on that game 4 hours a day...till heavenly sword comes out....I will play some Halo 3 on my xbox 360 but i hope it does not crash.

Sony put their heart and soul into the PS3, unlike microsoft which went to a dumpster and put in some componets to try and beat sony. I think microsoft will switch back to software only in the next next generation.

Sony really did do a hell of a job on the PS3. I wouldn't dream of putting my brand new 360 elite (with new heatsink, etc) through that.

I want a PS3, but geez, they really need to start getting some games released.

The power supply in the PS3 blew. Went back and got a new one. I powered it up to make sure it worked, but really have not played it since. I am waiting for some upcoming games. Wht's ironic is that I have a original launch 360 and have never had a problem with it. Edit

I'd love to see this kind of test repeated, in the heat, but with all 3 systems, and until 2 of them die. If any are actually going after a week, rush the death by spilling a 2L of coke on them. I'm sure that would make them die pretty fast.

I'd rather see it when the 360 that has its heat problems "fixed" though, just so no one can complain about the results, but let's face it, the real test would be between the PS3 and Wii, both of which are unquestionably reliable under normal conditions.

ive had my 360 on for over 12 hours all the time. I find it funny how the release and the new ones dont brake (most of the time), yet the middle ones all crap out, sucks for them

I wouldn't trust any testing done on any system by a site with the systems name in the site name. Consumer Reports is the only thing I would trust for something like this.

i own a 360 and have had it since 05-06. The only problem I have ever had was one incident of a ROL error. And that problem was fixed the next morning, after a good night's rest and some reconfigurating of my desk area. However, being the ever warranty ready person I am, I was already on the phone with MS xbox rep's and they put me down for a new PSU, no big deal. Anyway, I think that people have missjudged the 360's durability, and for those of you don't already know this ROL was supposed to be techy feature, for the geeks out there (like me) who would like to learn how to pinpoint where the errors are occuring.

ANY error is an error unwelcome, and I understand that people are out there having problems with their consoles. Let's not pin this under ONE console, as these kind of things can happen to just about anything My 60GB iPod's internal HDD faiiling on me gave a proverbial slap in the face when I realized that yes even expensive "high quality" products can indeed fail. I now am leary of purchasing higher priced products simply because of the money involved. I can't afford to let loose another $300 to replace my previous iPod, which is what most people wanna buy first after they start working. If the iPod taught me one thing, it's that the PS3 can fail too. And I don't even wanna think about my new iPhone dying on me either.

Man I can't believe it survived 120 degrees for 64 hours and still worked. My PS3 will last over ten years for sure.

and plus, they don't say made in China anymore! Yip-pie!

i'm certainly glad i have a PS3, and i left mine on almost all day yesterday (played Ninja Gaiden for a few hours, starting about 11:30AM then picked up my fiance from work, leaving the PS3 on while i was gone, then i played more Ninja Gaiden, then she took over and played Oblivion until 2 in the morning. not a single issue arose. not even a *FREEZE, and Oblivion is buggy as hell).

i love the reliability of the console.

as for the 360, i feel for the console. i want one, but it's reliability is seriously in question. my roommate *NEVER plays his 360 because he's scared it'll break down on him; and he doesn't like Gears of War, or Crackdown, or Dead Rising, or Lost Planet, or *ANY of the games released on the 360 so far. i'm tempted to buy the stupid thing off of him just so it'll get some use (i like Crackdown; it's fun).

i think, for fairness, they should run the test on the 360 and Wii also. who knows, we may be surprised at how they put up (i wouldn't put my money on the 360 making it through unscathed, but i'm trying to be nice here).

Okay I am no fanboy, I have tried both machines and came to the conclusion the PS3 is for me, now I love this article, why you ask? Well everytime I turned on my 360 I always use to think damn two hours in, Its very hot and I don't want to experince the red ring of death. So I used my 360 very moderatly. Now I wouldn't dare put my 360 in direct sunlight, let alone a sauna, so having read this article I feel very happy knowing I own one hell of a sturdy machine. And no fears of breaking so easily, as I had with the 360, Well done sony on that part. This is not a biased comment, but fact for me.

now your idea of "high quality" is definately troubled. I noticed this when you mentioned your 60 gb iPod being "high quality". No, ipod is an overpriced piece of equipment, who just like microsoft, just wants your money. Yeh, the click wheel is nice but 1. ipod did not invent the click wheel 2. i prefer buttons. Now i'm not going to lie, ipod is a fine piece of equipment, but they overprice it for what it does, and how long it can last you. The only real QUALITY ipod i have ever seen is the new ipod shuffle, now that thing is quality ^_^.

I've had it for almost 2 months now and no problems at all. I'm not just talking about system critical problems but problems in general with it's operation and nada, not a thing wrong.

Proves the theory of 'you get what you pay for' really doesn't it. I wouldn't have bought a PS3 if I didn't trust Sony, I don't mind paying more for a more reliable system. Unfortunately for MS, I don't trust the 360 one bit, so even a lower price tag wouldn't sway me.

360 reliability is crap compared to ps3s but 360 has the games. over time ps3 will have the games and the 360 dying issue will probably be solved... i hope, cause i definately want one and i dont need it breaking down

My favorite generation. So many incredible games at the perfect time in my life.

Some of the updates might be due to stability reasons. However, some might be for Blu-ray compatibility. Some people still use this for their physical media player.

listening to music, watching videos and looking at pics was so easy back then.
