The Grass is Getting Greener on Sony’s Side

Joe Garcia writes: If this console generation has taught us anything, it’s that third-party exclusives are quickly becoming a thing of the past. In the past we learned it from games like Grand Theft Auto IV and Final Fantasy XIII, and today we learned it from Mass Effect 2.

While those first two were setbacks for Sony’s platform, losing Mass Effect 2 is much more damaging to the Xbox 360. Let me explain...

Conloles5761d ago

Is this a metaphor for cows eating up the 360 (sales wise) whilst no one is touching Sony's grass (PS3).

D4RkNIKON5761d ago

@consoles, you have to be kidding me right...

Double Toasted5761d ago

Yeah, grass, speaking of which...

Anorexorcist5761d ago (Edited 5761d ago )

That was so god-damn stupid that it made me laugh.

kingjoker345761d ago

Biggunz5761d ago

I was thinking the same thing when I read the headline.

D4RkNIKON5761d ago

Yeah, you will be remembering Mafia two for years to come wont you.. I didn't plan on getting the game to begin with and now they just shot themselves in the foot.

You would have to be a complete and total blind fanboy not to think that the grass is getting greener on the PS3 side..

fight4love5761d ago

i knew someone was gonna say that

raztad5761d ago

LMAO.

So true. Kinda funny this article is talking about grass after the Mafia 2 no-grass on PS3 fanboy war.

bobdog6265761d ago (Edited 5761d ago )

LoL I saw it comming from a Mile Away LMAO ,I Guess Sony did not Pay the Grass Bill today oops.

commodore645756d ago (Edited 5756d ago )

Hahaaa!

laughing my grass off .. oops!

KillaManiac5761d ago

I don't see how Sony "Lost" GTA...

Xbox had the latest one (before GTA 4) which was San Andreas.

Yes...there was PSP ports, but was that to warrant a Rockstar exclusive?

Either way...ME2 is a HUGE hit to xbox owners....Playstation pretty much has the whole community of games besides Gears,Halo,Fable, and Forza.

Active Reload5761d ago

Well, the only one left that would be remotely possible of also jumping ship would be Gears, all the rest are first party. And MS treats Gears like a first party game. Epic probably don't have to spend a dime on Gears production since the first one, they just put everything on MS's tab. As far as ME though, that game was only ever an exclusive for six months. It might sting a few fanboys, but most people know its a multiplatform game. It should be, everyone should experience ME there is nothing else out there like it.

Snoogins5761d ago

First thing that came to my mind too, SDV_v3.

scott1825760d ago

I love the PS3 but that was a good shot!

ShadowCK5760d ago

"Quite frankly, that’s just about the entirety of their first-party lineup. Forza and Crackdown have already released games earlier this year/late last year, but they didn’t exactly post door-busting sales figures."

Yes because sales determine how good a game is and PS3 exclusives always sell amazingly. Killzone has reached a whooping one million worldwide and Heavy Rain has managed to sell 1 million copies worldwide. Fable 2 sold 3.5 million copies and Halo: Reach has more pre-orders. I'm sick of these Anti-Xbox articles. They just be banned along with every PS3 Fanboy who come here stating ignorant and trolling comments.

redsquad5760d ago (Edited 5760d ago )

How tall are you?
Just wondering what you'll say, as you seem to knock at least a third off every figure you "quote".

I mean, conveniently ignoring the article from a few days ago that stated HEAVY RAIN hit 1.5 million sales when said article is so fresh in everyone else's memory really does paint you as either a fool or a zealot.
I won't even touch on the rubbish you spouted about KILLZONE 2 as that's a blatant lie (and an "ignorant and trolling comment" to boot)

Now it's time to start building road's Sony.

2FootYard5761d ago

Things may be good for these shit head companies but I haven't played a good game since Okami. The fuck is up with that?

Tony-A5761d ago (Edited 5761d ago )

I have a diagnosis:

You haven't played a video game since Okami.

=P

Baltis5761d ago

Here's a little something for you - Okami, it sucks. Bad. In fact, the credits, the opening ones, were so long. So boring. So drawn out, that I didn't even play the game. That's how much of bore Okami is and was and will always be until they add a "skip" feature. Okami was lame. As hell. It's opening scene is longer than Scott Pilgrim vs the world's (psn) credits. They are uncalled for long. And to make us sit through such tripe is beyond me.

You'd have to be a gamer - A real one - To actually get far enough into Okami to take control of it. Okami is one of the worst games ever made on that principal. I'm sorry, not the worst game ever made. Just the most boring game I've ever booted up.

Jaces5761d ago

Could have just kept it short and said you hate amazing games. =P

nycredude5761d ago

YOu don't know Baltis? It could have been even shorting like he hates games period!

big_silky5761d ago

Things have been back & forth all gen, this is just a sign of real competition. It'll make MS work harder and hopefully they'll get their s**t together next year. I'm not about to throw my 360 out the window just because I might have an extra game or 2 to play on my ps3.

jdktech20105761d ago

These console wars are pointless....I have an xbox solely for Reach and Gears....I buy my multiplats (multiplayer focused on 360 because I already have Live for Halo) and I buy my blurays and PS3 exclusives on PS3......it's the way I work (most of my friends have a 360 or will when reach comes out)

Looks like PlayStation took a hit with Marathon and is now quietly adjusting prices worldwide to recover the losses

andy8529d ago

Lets be honest raising prices doesn't do that when no one's buying it. I imagine the profit it greater selling 10 times more at a lower price

Pergele28d ago

Whatever you say buddy, let's all wear the tinfoil hats.

IceKoldKilla28d ago (Edited 28d ago )

LMFAO Your comment alone says a lot more about you than anything else. When has one game not selling 10 million copies made a company raise the prices of their console? Then Xbox would be costing $5000 by now lol. You remind of the crazy drug addicts on the street rambling on about conspiracies. xD You sure you don't need a hug, buddy?

ChunkyMonk28d ago

One game that Sony payed $200 million for. lol
Also, you sure were quick to get triggered. Maybe your the one who needs a hug?

Eonjay28d ago

If nothing else, we should be united against the real issue here. AI and unnecessary tariffs that are effecting all gamers.

Athlon10129d ago (Edited 29d ago )

The price increases are due to the RAM demand associated with AI and the US-Iran war. You can look to any business news website and local news to see that. Heck, even the 2026 Asus Zenbook Duo I've been eyeing has faced delays and has had a price increase of $400; that laptop has two specs. Asus is doing a staggered release with per-orders for the lower spec now and shipping in May and pre-orders for the higher spec that I'm eyeing starting in June. Basically, all computer manufactures are affected. It'll most likely start affecting smart phones too if it hasn't already. I can't remember the last time any major console maker (Nintendo, Sony, Sega, etc) increased the price of their console mid cycle outside of Microsoft just to make more profit.

S2Killinit28d ago

Its not the war. Its the RAM issue.

jznrpg28d ago

War is causing gas prices to rise. Transport of everything requires gas so the prices of those items go up as well. So it does have an impact

Athlon10128d ago (Edited 28d ago )

The blockage of the Straight of Hormuz due to the US-Iran war has affected raw components used in semi-conductor manufacturing such as bromine, aluminum, and helium. Iran had attacked the liquified natural gas (LNG) plant in Qatar which is a large producer (1/3 globally) of helium which is used in semiconductor etching. So it's the both the war and the RAM crises.

badz14929d ago

Oh no...should I get the Pro now before the price increase?

I dont think that'll ever happen. But i must say back in the day, they were definitely trying because they were more cash rich than their competitors.

CosmicTurtle41d ago

I think MS were and still are the richer company. They tried to acquire Sega back in the day (and considered doing so again more recently), they obviously bought exclusivity to Halo which was originally shown as a Mac title. I don’t think as a company MS can claim the moral high ground here. It’s a wilful lack of self awareness.

Of course Sony would try exactly the same if they had the resources, but when the PS2 dominated the industry was in a much healthier place with an abundance of great third parties.

This has been a depressing generation as far as first party decisions are concerned. The fact we are debating business plans rather than which game is better is a sad reflection of the state of things.

Darkseeker42d ago (Edited 42d ago )

There was Nintendo as well, Sony wouldn't have had a monopoly. In fact, the world would be better today if Xbox never existed in the first place. They pretty much brought all bad practices we have today. We might have gotten all of it either way, but not this early. In term of franchises, I don't think there is anything Microsoft released that would actually be missed if it didn't exist. Even Halo the world wouldn't notice if Halo didn't exist.

S2Killinit41d ago

MS was definitely a bad influence on gaming.

raWfodog42d ago

I think almost everyone will agree that a monopoly is not good for the industry. But that being said, the competition needs to be smart and strategic with their business. Simply buying up publishers and traditional third-party studios just to keep them out of the other companies reach is not a sustainable practice. That goes for all parties so don't think I'm just referring to Xbox.

I'm no business guru by any stretch of the imagination but I firmly believe that the best way to drive consumers to your software and hardware is to invest smart in your first-party studios. Give them full support and guidance in making unique, fun games that are only available to play in your ecosystem and the gamers will come.

Reaper22_42d ago (Edited 42d ago )

But first party studios aren't enough. They only make up a small portion of the industry. Without 3rd party there would be no industry for Microsoft or sony.Developing games take time and money and sometimes you gotta make moves to stay competitive.

raWfodog42d ago

Nah, I never said first-party was enough. I said it’s the ‘best way’ to drive gamers to your platform. 3rd-party is a free-for-all and there’s no guarantee that gamers will use your hardware to play the game. If you want to push your own software and/or hardware you need first-party, or at least exclusive deals with third-party studios.

SimpleDad42d ago

They Shure did a great job... 25 years later Xbox is dead.

Reaper22_42d ago

Then why be so emotional and continue to talk about it. Xbox will never die be ause it stays in so many people's head.

lodossrage42d ago

How can you even see him being "emotional" in that comment?

If anything, you're the emotional one, constantly trying to go at anyone that says anything against Microsoft. So when you call him emotional, it comes off as deflection

Elda41d ago

I own an XBSX & I can say it's becoming irrelevant out of the 3 current consoles.
