Microsoft Responds to Mass Effect 2 Jumping Ship

Microsoft has responded to today's announcement of Mass Effect 2 coming to PlayStation 3. The game first launched in January 2010 for Xbox 360 and PC, and is now headed to PS3 a year later in January 2011.

Microsoft: "No Comment"
** BUTT HURT **

Ohh and Sales doesn't equal to quality Microsoft.. so Mass Effect 2 on 360 isn't the best place to experience it you dumb shits.

rroded5752d ago (Edited 5752d ago )

"With both Mass Effect titles launching first on Xbox 360 combined with the wealth of available paid downloadable content on Xbox Live today, Xbox 360 remains the best place to experience the Mass Effect franchise," a representative said in a statement given to IGN

i hope they throw me1 me2 on one disk n bypass ms's exclusive publishing rights!!!

SaberEdge5752d ago

Microsoft you are wrong, Mass Effect 1 is not an Xbox 360 exclusive. See, I'm not one of those people that has a problem with the term console exclusive because it has always been used in the gaming media and it makes sense, but Mass Effect 1 is also on the PC so it is not an "Xbox 360 exclusive".

morganfell5752d ago (Edited 5752d ago )

"Paid downloadable content..."????

That sounds like a company that is boasting about their own profiteering rather than what is best for their consumer base.

GWAVE5752d ago

ME2 is now on PS3. Wow. What can 360 fanboys even say?

Does Microsoft even acknowledge the existance of their hardcore 360 gamers? I guess Kinect really was the doom of hardcore games on the 360.

nveenio5752d ago

I don't really care about ever playing the ME franchise again, but I know there are literally millions of people that love it. So, I'm excited for them. As for Microsoft...it's not looking good. They're gonna have to get that Star Wars Kinect game looking pretty amazing if they want to stay in this thing much longer.

Rampant5751d ago

Really stupid money hat by Sony. According to 100 % of Sony Fans everyone that doesn't have a 360 already played this on PC. Mass Effect 2 was never a true exclusive.

The lolz when reading about people stating otherwise is lovely though.

sikbeta5751d ago

Say whatever you want ME2 was never "only on x360", there is PC version and now ME2 for PS3, nothing can change that...

Mmmkay5751d ago

i have not played it on pc because it a 15 GB torrent or sumthin...

Hideo_Kojima5751d ago

MS lost Bungie...
Than Valve who are bringing portal and maybe even Left 4 Dead to PS3...
and now they are losing ME2?

That is like PS3 losing Uncharted 2 ME2 is the best game on 360 just like Uncharted 2 is the best on PS3.

"With both Mass Effect titles launching first on Xbox 360 combined with the wealth of available paid downloadable content on Xbox Live today, Xbox 360 remains the best place to experience the Mass Effect franchise,"
well PS3 owners get the dlc for free, only thing is ME1, bioware will figure something out to get PS3 owners in

frostypants5752d ago

And how exactly does ME2's "launching first on Xbox 360" mean anything? So, if I'm going to buy a copy, the 360 version is better, because it has been out longer? Huh???

sikbeta5751d ago

"only thing is ME1, bioware will figure something out to get PS3 owners in"

[KEYWORD] = Sigma

UP5751d ago

Sigma was allowed to be put on the ps3 because the game has a slightly different engine so technically it is not ninja gaiden 2 so it is not violating the contract with microsoft.

- Ghost of Sparta -5752d ago (Edited 5752d ago )

Mass Effect 2 coming to PS3, which by the way is a far better game than ME1 and the highest rated 360 exclusive ever, ROFL. This also confirms Mass Effect 3 for PS3.

Ratchet & Clank: All 4 One
Resistance 3
Killzone 3 multiplayer trailer
New LBP2 trailer
New Infamous 2 trailer with redesigned Cole
L4D2 being rumored, and seeing how Portal 2 will be "best on PS3" according to Valve, Left 4 Dead 3 is coming to PS3 with integrated Steam.

Sony already won Gamescom. What does Microsoft even have left? The answer is "no comment".

RageAgainstTheMShine5752d ago (Edited 5752d ago )

Mass Effect 2 then Mass Effect 3 Role Playing Games will join the ranks of Uncharted 1 and Uncharted 2 Action Adventure Platformer will make the PS3 the undisputed KING of 3rd Person Shooters!

Also the arrival of ME 2 on PS3 will make the PS3 the undisputed Role Playing Games console king!

bobcostus5751d ago

No, Left 4 dead 3 isn't coming to PS3 with Steam. It could come with STEAMWORKS, but those are 2 VERY different things. Steam is the platform used to distribute games, STEAMWORKS is steam cloud saving and steam achievements.

I'm tired of seeing you fanboys say Portal 2 is getting Steam, it's not. It's getting partial steamworks support, that's it. The PC version of Portal 2 and L4D3 will be the superior one, as valve is primarily a PC developer, and that's where their fanbase is.

Letros5751d ago

Steam =/= Steamworks...

pustulio5751d ago

Why people disagree with you 2 above?

PS3 Fanboys can't accept they won't get steam.

***And the original Mass Effect is absolutely an Xbox 360 exclusive, making Xbox 360 the only place to get the full Mass Effect experience***

Crap, I must have only thought I played it both on my 360 and my PC.

raztad5752d ago

LOL.

The meaning of the word EXCLUSIVITY is totally twisted this gen.

MS exclusive, console exclusive, timed exclusive, exclusive timed dlc. LMAO.

Baka-akaB5752d ago

dont forget exclusive bugs and screentearing too .

Chris3995752d ago

PC isn't a platform.

People only use those things for word-processing.

/s

And I've played most of these PC/ 360 games on the PC btw. The 360 was only ever used for exclusive JRPGs and well, you know what happened there. Magna Carta 2 was the last of them in 2009, and that game was pure mediocrity.

Shepherd 2145751d ago

The point of the logic is that you were never able to have it on your PS3, hence the name, >Console< Exclusive.

I for one would rather just have it on my 360 than use up space and resources on my average quality comp. You cant even mod the PC version of ME1 and ME2 so whats the fucking point of having it on PC anyway? Plus i have a Vizio 32" HDTV hooked up to the 360 so its not like i give a damn about resolution too much.

Imperator5752d ago

I honestly believe that MS is gonna ditch the console market after the 360. They're not even trying anymore. If Kinect fails, then I'm pretty sure that's it for the Xbox brand.

R2D25752d ago

Can you imagine if Sony was the only hardcore console on the market. We would probally be paying $500 for a PS3, not to mention trophies,home,Move,3D - I am not saying that Sony copied those stuff but MS being in the market makes Sony more competative which equals better product for a cheaper price for us the gamer.

As much as f@nboy A hates hates f@nboy B they should still want another player in the game.

Any wishing doom on any of the consoles (Except the Wii : ))is a retard.

gamingdroid5752d ago

Competition is definitely good for the market. Just look at what happened to the Wii. The console hasn't changed at all in terms of features while Xbox Live and PSN keeps moving forward.

MS has brought much needed competition to Sony's dominance and now the favor is returned.

MariaHelFutura5752d ago (Edited 5752d ago )

Honestly I want it to be Nintendo, Sony and Sega again. I own a 360 but MS brought a "foul" business mindstate to the gaming industry. The days of Nintendo, Sony and Sega were the best, I miss those days alot.

MicroSony4Life5752d ago (Edited 5752d ago )

Dont you remember how Sony had all the good third party studios on the lock during the PS2 era - which caused the dream cast to fail. Also dont you remember how Sony would make adverts with crash Bandicot picking fights with Mario during the PS1 era.

I like Sony as a company but no way in hell are they saints and saying that MS is evil because of some exclusives that MS has taken is stupid.

colonel1795752d ago

I get what Maria is saying. I do agree with you a bit, but before MS everyone was kind of minding their own business. everyone was trying to out-best the other. MS, on the other hand, more than trying to get to the top, they are trying to bring everyone down.

Sony had every third parties last gen because they proved they made a great console. Nintendo has struggled, but I have never seen them trying to take an exclusive from them (by buying it). Final Fantasy went to the PS1 because they wanted it to be better, whcich wasn't possible on nintendo at the time.

Microsoft has bought every developer to try to bring everyone down. They don't care about their success, but are more worried about making Nintendo and MS fail. The xbox 360 has in some way stalled the industry, since the technology, although easy, is old.

I can go on, but really. The only thing MS has brought to gaming is Xbox Live, which is something Sega actually started the basic idea with the Dreamcast.

number475752d ago

Sony hasn't changed anything about their business plan for the Playstation Brand due to microsofts influence. Online was already burgoning for the console, as was having a hard drive.

Sony has kept quality as #1, as well as diversity. Neither of which is in Microsoft's plan. Sony has kept technology as a very important goal as well, again Microsoft hasn't.

If Microsoft wasnt' in the console race, I highly doubt Sony would use DVD, not invest in first party developers, etc. I believe Move would still be made thanks to the Wii, but there has been nothing from Microsoft that has changed the focus of Sony. They have always stated they aren't into buying timed exclusivity.

Really, outside of the stretch of claiming Xbox Live inspired PSN. What has Microsoft done in gaming, to change any of Sony's gameplans?

cliffbo5752d ago

R2D2. competition is good, that's why games on the PS3 are better overall. they compete against their own studios. if MS pulled out tomorrow, games on the PS3 would actually get better overall because whilst exclusives are always going to be better, it means that the restraints of DVD can be forgotten

MicroSony4Life5752d ago

I agree with you some what - MS does have some ways that they need to chnage like the DLC thing for GTA or the COD map thing that is only exclusive for a couple of weeks. MS needs to invest in 1st party studios and bring out some new IP's.

I do how ever think alot of people are forgetting that MS is still young in the console market and people should give them some time to develope into a good game company - The RROD thing did not help either, so buying a few execlusives was the way to take all the RROD heat (no pun intended) away from them.

Did not mean to rant so much but my point is that people should remember that companies first intrest are there share holders - no compnay is innocent when it comes to making money.

If M$ wasn't so upset, they'd simply state: "We're glad that those who could experience Mass Effect will now get the chance to."

But no. They had to spout reasons WHY 360 is the best platform to experience Mass Effect and how Xbox 360 got it first, JUST to spite PS3 owners.

Bzone245752d ago

Psycho_Mantis5751d ago

Lol! When it comes to exclusives, its like one company gets fucked over than the other would tell you to just fuck off and we make more money that way. :P

Syronicus5751d ago

This is a desperate attempt for MS to save some face knowing full well that they have lost one of their greatest third party exclusives. They bragged on this one for years and now it's gone. You can bet they will push for MGS4 on the 360 but from the looks of it, they will never see it much like the PS3 owners are now seeing ME.

No wonder 360 fanboys are stuck with the idea that ME1 was an exclusive. MS themselves also thinks ME1 is an exclusive game even though it's on Steam/pc.

For those who still havent played ME2, this will be a great addition to the PS3 lineup. But seriously, play the first one... which i still think is better in its own way.

Brewski0075752d ago

Two days ago if i said "Im gonna buy Mass effect two when it comes out on ps3", Microsoft would've probably responded telling me that it was an xbox exclusive game :P. Time will tell if the 1st one will be out, but i'll buy the 2nd one anyways.

On a side note, MS response sounds a bit desperate. The need to fire that rep. The rep could have simply said, "We're not worried, we got other exclusives we're working on." Instead, they boasted some pointless "360 for the full experience" gibberish.

I think that would require you really getting all three consoles to be known as simply a gamer, don't you ;) Just about everybody who has the internet has a PC, people just need to do themselves a favor and get all three consoles, instead of trying to justify their purchase by verbally "tearing down" someone elses. I promise you, every system has great games, even the Wii.

ER-AM5752d ago

Not much changed by using a ME1 save versus starting a new character, so why should it matter? If ME3 has bigger changes depending on a ME2 save then you could say that it's important. Also, this almost guarantees that Mass Effect 3 is coming to both.

Shepherd 2145752d ago (Edited 5752d ago )

Using your ME1 save in ME2 was a huge feature that added a lot of spice to the game. It affects the way certain people encounter you and decides if certain characters are even in ME2 based on whether you let them live or die in ME1. Not to mention, ME2 presents some serious choices to the character that obviously will have consequences in ME3.

Im sorry to say it, but PS3 owners simply dont have that great feature with their experience(as far as ME1 and ME2 are concerned, ME3 will probably have the import ME2 save feature on PS3), let alone can they play the first part of trilogy on their PS3. Hopefully alot of PS3 owners have a good computer to run ME1 so they can at least know what happens prior to ME2.

ER-AM5752d ago

Those were all minor changes that didn't affect the overall story of ME2. And the only characters that could or could not be in the game are Ashley, Kaiden, and Wrex. And from what I've played, those characters don't play a significant role in ME2. So what's the big fucking deal? ME2 does have choices and actions that will affect ME3, however, from my personal experiences, not using a ME1 save, doesn't drastically affect the story in ME2. How fucking hard is that to understand?

Shepherd 2145751d ago (Edited 5751d ago )

There are literally dozens of minor characters that pop up based on your actions and side missions from ME1 in ME2. Ive beaten the game twice, so i think id know the effect more than you.

I never said they affected the overall plot anyway, i stated that they "added a lot of spice to the game". Its a great feature not seen in most other games, gives the player a sense of cause/effect, and adds a personal touch to your playthrough.

How fucking hard is that to understand?

TheDeadMetalhead5751d ago

Either way, I'm sure Bioware will find some way around it, either by releasing the first one somehow, or something else. It would just be stupid to cut parts of the game out like that.

Wow way too many meltdowns all over the net about this. Are people really that crazy to think that BW and EA did not want expand the ME audience? =o

And to  all the people dooming the PS3 version because it won't allow you to port your choices over, GTFO, I played both ME 1&2 and 99% of these choices don't mean jack, in fact ME2 plays better when you don't carry over  your save file, it feels fresh and more like how ME1 should have been.

Maybe PS3 owners will view the story  the same way the people on the PC and 360 did who started a new story and did not port their ME1 save over, or the same way the people that started playing the series from ME2 did...... gasp....... I mean that could be a possibility right, maybe that's the conclusion BW came to, because they of all people knows that ME2 is playable, enjoyable, and coherent without ME1 and rightfully so.

All this hate are just selfish jealous fan boys, seriously I hope they all choke and die on all that crow they are eating.

I'm going to take a wild guess here and say that you probably wouldn't last too long in the marketing world...

Bobbykotickrulesz5752d ago

lol Microsoft needs to get their shit together.

They started strong with the 360 but now they're flailing. I'm starting to think the only reason the 360 even did well to begin with was because they had no other next gen console to compete with.

Crystallis5752d ago

DING DING DING...you just figured that out.

lowcarb5752d ago

It had nothing to do with competition but more to do with change in power and loss of core focus. MS needs to hire some new talent or bring back the guys that 1st envisioned the Xbox plan. EA slapping MS in the face along with others may not be the best idea anyway for a game once thought console exclusive. It's great everybody gets to play it but crazy how people act as if this is a surprise with EA involved.

nycredude5752d ago

Low carb I am sure there are many things that factor into MS fast start and current dismal position but saying competition had nothing to do with it is BS. If Sony had launched at the same time MS had launch MS wouldn't be in the lead now. That is a fact. MS started strong but planned for a sprint. Sony started off weak (as we perceived) but planned for a marathon. They've been there and done that and obviously knows what they are doing.

lowcarb5752d ago

Sony definitely had more console experience going in but now it's safe to say MS has learned quite a bit as well. Now just because Sony is getting tons of solid news today doesn't mean everything MS is somehow not important anymore. Sony needs more days like today because this entire year 360 has been gaining momentum and pretty much showing it's the only console that matters. I just think it funny to read all of these comments negative towards 360 (as if it's going to make a difference this generation)when it's doing a great job not just in sales but in software for it's fan base. Regardless of who came out 1st MS was the under dog and has taken Sony by surprise. Sony's doing a fantastic job just being Sony but don't think for one second that these huge and needed announcements have or will somehow hurt 360 sales.

Shang-Long5752d ago

crystallis you just cracked me up

Snoogins5751d ago (Edited 5751d ago )

"Sony needs more days like today because this entire year 360 has been gaining momentum and pretty much showing it's the only console that matters."

Seriously, what the fuck are you talking about? How is Microsoft convincing anyone the 360 is the only console that matters? Until the release of the XBOX 360 S in July, Sony's Slim has been dominating in most markets except the North American. A 6.1 million lead due to at LEAST a year's exclusivity in the market shrunk down to less than 4 million, and the 360 is the only one that matters? Microsoft just lost one of its most important exclusives, and Sony has now gained favor from Valve in future projects as well as strong support from EA and the 360 is the only console that matters? Microsoft is turning its focus to the casual audience with a device heavily criticized for its technical issues, so limited in its core capabilities that it has only found itself applied as an after-thought, and you think that will make the 360 the only console that matters?

Microsoft did very well going into this generation, securing formerly PlayStation-exclusive franchises, expanding their portfolio and making it a more attractive format. However, they became stagnant in progression, with little to no new IP creation or expansion. After Halo: Reach and a Kinect-less Fable III (Molyneux recent interview with VG247 makes it apparent the promised feature is scrapped) what exclusives do you have to look forward to next year, and beyond? What will there be that supports your claim that the 360 will be the only console that matters, when the muliplatform games will also be available to play on the PC and PS3? If I were you, I'd drop the ignorant fanboy act and start to demand more from the company you so devoutly support, or, if you haven't already, buy another platform to expand your gaming experience.

As a further note, Microsoft's closed mentality prevents it from getting MMOs like Final Fantasy XIV. It prevents them from getting Steamworks support with their Valve titles. It also prevents mod support ever seeing the light of day in the games, or have a game like LittleBigPlanet.

Mass Effect 1's story is waaaaaay better than Mass Effect 2's. Mass Effect 1 is even the better game because it's more of an RPG and not a Third person shooter like Mass Effect 2 is. I would suggest that you get both games because they are really something you don't want to miss.

Wouldn't happen though would it. Since PS3 fans don't want to buy XBOXs, and if they do they'd rather play ME2 on there own system, and so on...

If they hadn't bought an XBOX already to play the ME series, they certainly won't now.

stragomccloud5752d ago (Edited 5752d ago )

That's not true at all, it's a shame for PS3 gamers, because, in Mass Effect 2 you use the story you helped the shape with the decisions you've made in Mass Effect. I've heard that if you start Mass Effect 2 without a Mass Effect 1 save file, you get all the worst decisions made from the first game incorporated into Mass Effect 2.

monkeybizz5752d ago

Actually when you start ME2 without a ME1 save, you have to define all the key actions, by confirming your past.

All the ME1 characters only play cameos in a few missions, Garrus probably has the largest part.

shqype5751d ago

if I send my bank information to a Nigerian prince I met on the internet, he will give me millions of dollars.

I played ME1 on PC but didn't transfer my save file for ME2. In the beginning, they ask you if you remember what happened previously, and you have an option to shape some of the events/decisions from the past by your answers.

stragomccloud5751d ago

Really? I can't believe people disagreed with what I said. It wasn't an opinion. It's a fact.

If you start Mass Effect 2 without playing Mass Effect 1, then the game takes the ending where you allowed the council to die, and Udina is the only counsel member.

Also, you have no control over who survives the mission on Virmire. Furthermore, you won't have any idea how awesome Garrus is.

And Urdnot Wrex? He can die in the first game.

Long story short... saying f the 1st game in the series is just masked denial.

It's too bad that Microsoft controls the rights to Mass Effect 1. Because given the chance, I would prefer the game on PS3, if only for the fact that Mass Effect 2 would be on 1 disc instead of 2. It's just a convenience thing.

I think Bio will do an introduction to the PS3 players to introduce them to the story and tell them what happen in the first game…

Lovable5752d ago

A 10 minute preview like what Yakuza 3 did. I'd say that was very well done.

The problem is the fact that saves on ME1 affects some characters in ME2. I'm really interested on how Bioware will handle this.

ER-AM5752d ago

It didn't change the story in any real way, so I don't think it will matter all that much.

ChronoJoe5752d ago (Edited 5752d ago )

They could just let you fill in the decisions, at the start of the game. Maybe through a series of cutscenes and whatnot, so players of ME1 or 2 on PC could replicate there scenarious without having there gamesaves.

How many discs is ME2 360 on anyway? 2 or 3? Can't say the PS3 version doesn't have it's appeal.

baodeus5752d ago (Edited 5752d ago )

yeah, like the ragni queen thing. It feels like they gonna be a major factor in ME3 (hinting from ME2), but then you would have to make that decision in ME1 or else you won't see it in ME2. Similar to the Krogan world, Liara and so on. There are a lot of things that actually can affect ME2 and possibly ME3 if you don't have ME1 saves.

But as Chrono said above, that could be one possibility.

It is great that PS3 owner get to play it, but this fanboy BS is getting out of hand.

Legion, Zaeed, and Jack are my favorites.

RiseNShine524d ago

To think that Bioware at some point was capable of doing games like this, you see those characters and remember them like good old friends, and now check ME Andromeda, Anthem, Veilguard etc and wonder what the hell happened.

anast524d ago

They lost too much talent.

IAMRealHooman524d ago

Loved Alpha Protocol in all it's glorious jank. Great game.

SimpleSlave772d ago (Edited 772d ago )

Not only glorious jank, but the idea that the story can completely change depending on what you do, or say, or side with, makes it one of the most forward thinking games ever. The amount of story permutation is the equivalent of a Hitman level but in Story Form. And it wasn't just that the story changed, no, it was that you met completely new characters, or missed them, depending on your choices. Made Mass Effect feel static in comparison.

Alpha Protocol was absolutely glorious, indeed. And it was, and still is, more Next Gen than most anything out there these days. In this regard at least.

Pity.
