Gamescom: No Heavy Rain Sequel?

During his panel at the Game Developers Conference Europe today, developer David Cage, he of Heavy Rain fame, said he doesn't plan to make a Heavy Rain 2. In fact, he has tried to make his name, David Cage, a brand unto itself specifically so he won't have to make a sequel.

Heavy Rain Doesn't need a sequel but I would like to see a similar game with a new story from quantic dream. Heavy Snow maybe.

Heavy sun, maybe. The paper mache killer leaves his victims out to get a bad sunburn and then doesn't give them any skin lotion after.

@Disagree fairy: It was a JOKE.

I think they should keep the name "Heavy Rain" just to make a brand name for the type of games they make. But I agree new story different Scenario.

Would SE7EN get a sequel? Of course not, so neither should HEAVY RAIN. Pretty much any impact the game had would be undermined.

Well it depends, it would have to be a completely different story unrelated to what happened in HR but they could carry over one character. Madison is a reporter, there is all kinds of trouble she can get into, there is even an ending that foreshadows such a thing happening. But if the only thing the games have in common is one character, is it really a sequel?

That's cool by me. Gives him a chance to work on new and different projects like Horizon and his unannounced game (Said that he was working on two projects (one Horizon) in a interview after Heavy Rain came out awhile back).

Please no! It was an excellent game, leave it alone. Everything doesn't need a sequel...

SixZeroFour5756d ago

doesnt heavy rain have multiple endings anyways? can you make a sequel with a game that didnt have a single ending? how can you even start the sequel when you dont even know how every player ended their campaign experience

pippoppow5756d ago

So true. Too many sequels as is. A similar style game would be nice with a different setting, theme and graphic style would be nice though.

Kurisu5756d ago

He already said ages ago that there would no Heavy Rain 2. There's no need for it. Besides, aren't they working on 2 new games? (something about a Family?)

Please stop comparing video games to movies

"Many video games catch not only great commercial attention but remarkable critical attention as well. We have seen games like Heavy Rain, The Last of Us Part II, and even entries in the Metal Gear series described as fantastic interactive experiences, even heralded in the same way as Hollywood's greatest films.

I would suggest that not only is this an unfair comparison but also a harmful one. Video games, by their very nature, are an intricately different medium and should be weighed against one another rather than another form of media," Phillip writes for GF365.

Yes, please stop. They're better than most hollywood drivel nowadays.

I think Hollywood films will becoming increasingly more like video games in the future, especially as the world embraces the "new normal" from the pandemic. It makes sense, as games like Spider-Man: Miles Morales showcase just how realistically we're reaching in graphical capabilities, as well as showcase extreme action sequences in spectacular ways. And as time goes by, it'll get easier and cheaper to produce such "art", as well as create new star "actors" that never age, never die, never complain, never gets involved in scandals, etc. Technology is amazing and we're only just getting a taste of what it'll eventually be.

No. Some games are like movies.

medman2011d ago (Edited 2011d ago )

No. For the money spent, a quality game provides far more entertainment value than a quality movie. Especially when looking at what is going on in the world, and how a studio can attempt to pilfer from consumers by charging 30 dollars for Mulan via streaming. Ridiculous. There is no comparison....games all day.
