Balls of steel! They arent scared of taking risk which is good and pays off in the end.

zootang5750d ago

Balls? No

History of Madness yes!

What would we have done without Sony.

Persistantthug5750d ago

Sony been crazy, but with their crazyness, they've been super successful at the same time.

The way they function, they almost personify a musician/artist....take a lot of risks that can only be explained as wacky and see things only the artist can see....but eventually their supreme wackyness pays off.

It's no wonder they are in at the top of the music and movie business to....because to truly understand and artist, you sort of have to be one.

zootang5750d ago

@Percy

Bubbles+ man! I'm dying here!

NYC_Gamer5750d ago

yup because sony has been taking risk since the psx days

Optical_Matrix5750d ago

They've been taking risks long before the the PSX days. As a tech company in general theres a reason why they're always leading or one of the leaders of the consumer electronics industry. They're always innovating and pushing the envelope.

comp_ali5750d ago

In other words , Micrsoft is a Pussy. lol
Nice to see Heavy rain success in the time of shooters.

BlackCountryBob5750d ago

I disagree, this is not aimed at Microsoft. Myself, I read it more as a dig at the larger 3rd party publishers, especially Activision.

I think Microsoft have tried to take risks on occasion but in a different way, Alan Wake, Halo Wars and even as far back as Blinx and Grabbed by the Ghoulies. Sure they are not setting the world on fire but I at least see a pretense of trying to be innovative and different unlike Activision (who can forget there me too efforts like True Crime and the frankly appalling treatment of Brutal Legend).

comp_ali5750d ago

But sadly ALan wake failed on X360. not sure if it is microsft fault , remedy or even the audience.

raztad5750d ago

LOL@MS is a pussy

Jokes aside, I can understand why MS could have turned down a game like HR and decided to push something more conventional like AW. It actually makes sense for their userbase. You really need big balls to risk many millions on a game that could end up being an utter failure.

Congrats to Sony and QD. They scored big one.

tudors5750d ago

Well if HR is as good as Alan Wake then it must be good, though it looks like a shemue rip off to me.

Jinxstar5750d ago (Edited 5750d ago )

Truth be told I hated Shenmue. I really was excited for it when I first read about it in EGM back in the days. The game just overall had horrible pacing and just wasn't fun to me.

Heavy Rain on the other hand does start off really slow and has some bad acting in it at times but after it picks up it was definitely pushing new ground. Heck my fiance actually played the game from start to finish and then we got to compare our stories... It was a very cool experience. She never plays games so that was a huge plus to me.

Haven't played much Alan Wake myself. Only at my buddies house and I'm not quite sure why there is a comparison of the games... Anyway Game on.

@ Fishd

Yeah I hear what your saying too. I kinda got a Silent hill vibe when playing AW... Except with a constant narrator...

fishd5750d ago

And Alan Wake is absolutely original, right?! :/

willie62895750d ago

if you look at the history of MS, they have never been innovators or big risk takers. It is their business mentality to let someone else take the risk and then use their size and money to steamroll into the market and take over. Sometimes it works, (windows) sometimes it doesn't (Zune). It is yet to be decided if it worked or not in the video game industry.

SOAD5750d ago

That's not true. Bill Gates walks into the headquarters of IBM wearing shorts and sandals. IBM wants to ship their latest line of computers with DOS. They offer Bill Gates a large undisclosed sum of money for his OS. Most people, they take the easy money and they bail. They don't want to be there in case the product collapses. In case DOS proves to be a failure. Bill Gates has the cajones to say, "Nah, you don't have to pay me a large sum now. How about you give me a buck for every computer you sell with my OS on it?"

Are you saying MS doesn't have balls?

willie62895750d ago

wasn't talking about DOS, talking about windows, and its main selling feature at the time the GUI. Which was stolen from apple.

So it does fit the profile of letting someone else make the innovation, and then when it works, they come in and try and take over.

SOAD5750d ago

Stolen from Apple?

Using a concept that works is not stealing an idea.

Did Naughty Dog steal everything from the Indiana Jones franchise?

Did Sony steal Achievements from Microsoft?

Microsoft didn't steal anything, please stop spreading that tired, old myth.

willie62895749d ago

my bad, "copied" not stolen.

and yes ND did copy ideas from Indiana Jones, and yes Sony copied achievements. And yes MS copied many, many ideas. And that was my point, MS is rarely the innovator, they "copy" ideas.

divideby05750d ago

yea...Sony and Big N are truely innovators and risk takers...

mrcash5750d ago (Edited 5750d ago )

The heavy rain formula was already proven with indigo prophecy... No innovation took place with that game.

What's with the disagrees, have none of you played indigo prophecy, quantic dream developed it as well. Heavy rain is a next gen version of that... I'm not putting heavy rain down, but the innovation came from the first game this one just made it better.

mrcash5750d ago

could someone then explain how heavy rain innovated over what indigo prophecy did, i'm sure someone can since there's soooooo many disagreeing.

dredgewalker5750d ago

Lol, don't take it personally. I think since everyone was agreeing and you were the only one disagreeing so I think they thought you deserve a disagree. Disagree's are a lot better than having your bubble taken though.

WLPowell5750d ago

Indigo Prophecy started nuking the fridge at every turn halfway through. (Seriously necrophilia AND alien cock roaches?) Loved the game, but I was like "what the fuck? Is everyone over at QD high?" while playing through Indigo. Sony took a big risk to give them money to make a "spiritual successor" to that game and make it one of their premier exclusives.

asyouburn5750d ago

its that sony went against the grain and current market trends and put the game out. thats the innovation theyre talking about.

nycredude5750d ago

Mrcash did you even play IP? There weren't multiple ends and branching story paths.

Please stop comparing video games to movies

"Many video games catch not only great commercial attention but remarkable critical attention as well. We have seen games like Heavy Rain, The Last of Us Part II, and even entries in the Metal Gear series described as fantastic interactive experiences, even heralded in the same way as Hollywood's greatest films.

I would suggest that not only is this an unfair comparison but also a harmful one. Video games, by their very nature, are an intricately different medium and should be weighed against one another rather than another form of media," Phillip writes for GF365.

Yes, please stop. They're better than most hollywood drivel nowadays.

BLAKHOODe2006d ago

I think Hollywood films will becoming increasingly more like video games in the future, especially as the world embraces the "new normal" from the pandemic. It makes sense, as games like Spider-Man: Miles Morales showcase just how realistically we're reaching in graphical capabilities, as well as showcase extreme action sequences in spectacular ways. And as time goes by, it'll get easier and cheaper to produce such "art", as well as create new star "actors" that never age, never die, never complain, never gets involved in scandals, etc. Technology is amazing and we're only just getting a taste of what it'll eventually be.

sourOG2006d ago

No. Some games are like movies.

medman2005d ago (Edited 2005d ago )

No. For the money spent, a quality game provides far more entertainment value than a quality movie. Especially when looking at what is going on in the world, and how a studio can attempt to pilfer from consumers by charging 30 dollars for Mulan via streaming. Ridiculous. There is no comparison....games all day.
