On the contrary PC gaming has been growing year on year(not according to NPD though for obvious reasons). Its Console gaming that has been on a decline since 2008.

How many times do these articles come up? So many misconceptions about PC Gaming and how glorious it is

ProjectVulcan5748d ago (Edited 5748d ago )

Starcraft 2 = megasales.

Last year: The sims 3 = megasales.

Next year: Diablo 3 = megasales.

MostJadedGamer5748d ago

That is EXCATELY why PC gaming is dying. Usually only ONE game a year puts up huge scales while 99% of the games sell like crap. That right there is a sign of a industry that is on its deathbed.

ProjectVulcan5748d ago (Edited 5748d ago )

These were just some examples. These examples sell better than nearly every console game. Other games sell very well on Pc but of course its not as well known as these huge selling games. Total war for one example. Have you even heard of it? Have console gamers heard of it? Probably not. But it sells millions. AT RETAIL. Which is now very much a secondary market to downloadable games, which is also why Pc sales are not as widely published as console games, because the market has shifted away from retail.

Please educate yourself.

The Pc market is a very different scene to console, and revenue streams are different too. Dont say Pc games dont sell well armed with limited knowledge of how sales are counted, or how revenue is generated.

Yeah, they don't want DD sales to actually be reported because it spells doom for consoles. At least the publishing part of it and those are the powerhouses anyway.

As always the PC is leading the way and the consoles will follow in the years to come. Like it or not DD is the future. Dev studios sure hope so because it eliminates trade-ins and used games.

I for one will mourn the retail boxed games. But on the flip side of the coin I own over 50 games on STEAM currently. ;/

kevnb5748d ago

why they even have to discuss such foolishness. How did anyone get convinced pc gaming was dying?

PotatoClock5748d ago

Sony and Microsoft wanting people to play their console, so they gets more of the moo-lah.

If the mainstream idea is that somethings out of date, like how they try to portray PCs, then the hope is everyone will just play consoles. Which gives them alot of money, not just for the console but also that little bit of money they get from game sales and their online services.

I like open platforms much better.

pippoppow5748d ago (Edited 5748d ago )

Many pro 360 sites do not mention the PC version or rarely shine a light on it. Doing so would diminish the 360's worth so they concentrate on the console wars which generates more hits and makes MS' 360 look a little better.

Consoles fanatics in general need to realize PC gaming is a viable option for under $700. Can be played on an HDTV. There are exclusives and genres that can either only be played or better played on the PC. Games are generally cheaper due to no fee required due to PCs being an open platform (no one owns it). Also you can use a controller and other inputs as well.

pc gaming is not dead its just couple of fools wishing on the platforms downfall

KratosGirI5748d ago

Only console kiddies say it's dead.

ALFAxD_CENTAURO5748d ago

The Community of Gamers on PC is more bigger than PS3 and Xbox 360 Combined.

I don't know who are the people saying PC is abandoned, because I saw other articles with the same Subject.

I hope the devs can break away from MS and take their IP's with them in the not to distant future. This entire consolidation and mass industry firings that MS has spearheaded has been nothing but a disaster for everyone except the already rich creatively bankrupt tw@ts at Microsoft.

MS is nothing but a drain on the entire gaming industry and every facet of it.

1Victor148d ago

There is precedent already with bungie separating from Microsoft but I doubt Microsoft will let them go out with their IP’s without paying a huge price

Good for them. From what I hear Microsoft supports it but unfortunately it still doesnt change much but its a step in the right direction. More devs across the entire industry should do this. But regardless, you just love to hate anything Microsoft or xbox. Who's fault is it that sony closed down studios? Who spearheaded that? What i don't understand is that if you hate Microsoft so much why the concern. If this bothers you so much you may want to find another hobby. Free up some of that mental energy for your own well being and stop worrying about shit you cant change.

@FlaggerD care to look at yourself in the mirror, obscure? It's like your 132456th account now, and all of them have you being obsessed with Sony. You just can't handle the fact they literally stomped on Xbox, LMAO! Juggernaut my ass haha. Xbots claiming Expedition 33 winning GotY is a win for Xbox because it was on Game pass is the funniest shit ever LMAO!

Good for them. With AI coming for their jobs and their new corporate overlords working overtime to replace them, it’s a smart move.

Notellin148d ago

It won't be long before Microsoft lays off everyone in gaming and routes that money over into AI.

Time for everyone at Xbox to update the resume and start coming up with Indie game pitches.

DarXyde148d ago

The point of unionizing is collective bargaining. Sadly, I do not believe they have any leverage, which is likely why Microsoft isn't impeding them: The investment in AI is gargantuan. We're talking about a data center in Wisconsin that's about 200 city blocks. That is massive and insane.
