Bobby Kotick: Those Infamous Comments

One Of Swords: "I actually don’t think that people truly hate Activision as a company or even its individual development studios; I think they just disagree with any number of the company’s business decisions, and that manifests as bitter, often irrational, comments about Bobby Kotick. And gamers really love to focus on him because of…Those Infamous Comments.

When I saw how frequently these comments were brought up, I decided to put my journalistic hat back on and investigate them. I mean, saying you want to take all the fun out of gaming…that can’t be real, can it? Sure enough, when I looked at the original statements in their original context, I found that many people are citing Those Infamous Comments incorrectly, reinforcing factual errors and misinterpretations — maybe accidentally, maybe willfully."

Who do these guys think they are getting the full story to press rather than jumping on a few juicy tidbits and regurgitating what others say? Don't they know how to journalize? If this keeps up there might, just might, be SOME integrity brought into journalism. I mean, think of the children! Journalists actually covering how the war in Afghanistan is really going, or how the world REALLY views the USA! Oh, the HUMANITY!!

(The preceding message was PURELY sarcastic.)

SeanRL5751d ago

My view on America, it's great having such a powerful ally but they need to stop spending so much god damn money on their military.

Lich1205751d ago

Affirmative PSfan. Also, Im an American.

BX815751d ago

I can tell ur vagina is hurting. If ur going 2 bring up da Stan, provide us with video footage that you were there! I can't stand tramps!!!!!!!

thorstein5751d ago

Ask yourself why we are in Stan. 9/11? Hmmm.. Osama was Saudi. The pilots that hijacked the plane were Saudi. We are there to get Osama? He was on dialysis 10 years ago. You really think he is carting a dialysis machine through the mountains?

cyberwaffles5751d ago

hey, don't talk shit about the military!!!

lol just fuckin', i'm sure you got your reasons for believing that so i respect it. there are probably a lot of underlying reasons why our government supports our military so heavily and they might be pre-emptive decisions for future-intensive purposes. who knows, we might go to war with china soon because of our debt and our government might see it coming a mile away.

or i could just be being unrealistic and overthink some of things. who knows. all im saying is respect your troops no matter what country you're from. it ain't easy serving and sacrificing for your country and for your beliefs, but you should atleast respects those who do it.

also, i'm an enlisted marine so i might come off biased lol

Wow a Bobby K circle jerk, let me douse you in gasoline and light a cigarette.......

Lets look at some facts,
1st. His dealings with Tim Schafer, whether you like his games or not he has the respect of almost all gamers who know his name from his beginnings @ lucas to him going it alone he is an important voice to the real industry that is people that play and create games, not people that f**king sell them. Kotick set about doing what he could to end the guys career completely. Google it.

2nd. Raising game prices, for no apparent reason nothing to do with inflation, quantity or quality of product its simply "Because We Can".

3rd. Forceful removal of what was Infinity Ward, no matter how you try to spin it, or make it go away its a defining example of a business being run for ALL the wrong reasons. If you dont understand that you have never worked at a big company.

There are so many more its unbelievable, i have better posts to make lol.

For number 3 Activision claims West and Zampella were using office resources, time, etc to make a game for a company other than Activision. That's what the lawsuit is about, Activision had to have had a reasonable amount of evidence before going through with that since they also filed a lawsuit.

What happened after they left is pretty fuzzy, hopefully the lawsuit clears things up.

MRHARDON5751d ago (Edited 5751d ago )

Activison got mad because West and Zampella were visitng there "competitor" EA and talks about devorcing Activison.

So Activison got pissed because they did the above and they have every right to.

Activison cant say "You cant go there", that is violating a persons rights, Activision cant say "you cant say that" since that is ALSO violating a persons rights.

Everything Activison did in this case violated Zampella and West independent rights as a person.

So Zampella and West will win and get the rights to the COD,MW series.

Elven65751d ago

No,

Activision is claiming they were doing all of that stuff on company time which is what I said above, they have full right to say they can't when its happening on company time. Activision would be paying them for company time after all.

Further, depending on the type of contract that could exist between Activision and the IW guys, it may even forbid talking to competitors in such a way about projects. This is usually the case for jobs that need a lot of confidentiality, pay really high, etc.

Amazing how all the infamous comments from Kotick were "taken out of context". One of Swords really needs to look at BP and their former CEO's comments as an example of how sometimes it is better for the CEO just to keep their flippin mouth shut.

ForROME5751d ago

Bobby would like to see all activision games have a diff model, the game price up and a subscription on top of it, he has spoken at conferences spreading this idea to other companies

Bobby will burn, I boycott Activision products

End of Store

Senden5751d ago

Kotick is BAD for gaming.. just admit it. The quotes you mentioned were nothing more than ammunition used against the guy. The very fact he charged us more for mw2 just because he could shows this. It's not like he came out and apologized and tried to make amends for the awful public opinion of him. Might have been able to debunk some comments but it doesn't change that the gamers would be better off without Kotick. Also don't even get me started on the treatment of the former IW employees.

Kotick Made $155 million from MS in the buyout, the little b*tch needs to stop whining. Thanks to this Microslop deal and massive industry consolidation thousands upon thousands of devs and other workers lost their livelihoods. This greedy piggie pervert needs shut up and f-off.

Microsoft needs to listen or risk irreparable harm to Call of Duty

Windows Central: "The money may keep rolling in, but Microsoft is the custodian of one of the biggest selling video game series in history. If something doesn't change, I fear we'll reach a breaking point and irreparable damage will have been done."

Because ms is so good at managing studios, surely they will get it right

:P

franwex168d ago

In my view, they should probably merge MP with Warzone and essentially make it free to play like Halo Infinite. The campaign/zombies mode can be $30 yearly DLC. I know this would be insanity as most COD players essentially pay the full price of the game simply for the MP. However-with a shrinking player base they may have to consider it. Making it free would bring in a ton of players.

Profchaos168d ago

To late MW3 should have been a lesson but here we are two years later with a steaming pile a shite called blops7

Halo killer once arrived and technically call of duty killer also arrived, its name is Fortnite

dveio168d ago

Call of Duty was riding the revenue horse and charts for ~20 years. Whether undeserved or deserved.

But I endorse everyone to remind you that Microsoft could have decided differently when they took it over.

The money was certainly there, and they could have taken their time revamping the franchise:

Current-gen tech, manageable microtransactions, not imitating Fortnite and returning to core values of the franchise's origin.

They didn't.

Let's see next year. Hopefully without the then 13 years old PS4 and One hardware.

blacktiger168d ago

you need to stop saying "let see next year"
