Limbo SFGate Review

SFGate: Limbo begins like a dream teetering on the edge of nightmare as a boy awakens in the woods, blinking his eyes in the dark. From the start, the game is stunning enough in its visual restraint that we're drawn into the simple use of shadows backlit against a distant, fog-enshrouded glow. A subtle grain crawls against the screen, the shallow focus leaves objects at the edge of the screen blurry, and the image itself seems to flicker, as if everything were running on a rickety film projector. Only the whites of the boy's eyes remain constant as he gets up and runs farther into the forest and beyond, leaving us to wonder not only where he is going, but also how he arrived - and just exactly where he has arrived.
