Charging Your PS3 Controllers Just Got Easier

Tired of having to plug in your PS3 DualShock 3 controller via a usb cable every time it starts dying? How about charging up to 4 DualShock 3’s at once for under 8 dollars?

darthv725761d ago

it certainly is a nice convenience for multiple units but come on...how hard is plugging in the controller anyway? No offense, the title makes it seem so cumbersome to plug a cable from point A to point B.

ElementX5761d ago

Same people as the ones who complain about swapping discs, most likely.

Firebird3605760d ago

I hate how people act like swapping a disc somehow actually makes a good game bad.

pixelsword5760d ago

@elementx:

...or the ones who complain about load times, which require no movement at all.

insomnium5760d ago (Edited 5760d ago )

You clearly don't understand the problem with gaming industry and multi disc games.

The swapping of discs IS lastgen for sure but that's not the main problem.

Here's a tip for you: The developers will not or cannot put games on more that one disc on every genre. I'll let you chew on that for a while. Think about what will happen because of that. What are the choises the dev team has?

siliticx5760d ago

@firebird360
Seriously, Star ocean 4 was much better on PS3. The end game was painfully cumbersome and eventually got me tired of switching.

I have something similar but the one i have connects to a wall outlet. Which I prefer that way I don't have to have my PS3 one to charge and my controllers are usually fully charge before I play.

BloodyNapkin5760d ago

WTF you mean how hard is it to plug in your controller anyway? So i should have to leave my console on to charge my controller, ummm i dont think so. Or i should be able to charge and play with my controller and that would be fine if they gave me a cord longer than 2 feet to play with. So guess what i had to go out and spend 30 bucks on a separate device so i could charge my controllers so i dont have to leave my PS3 on and also if the controller i am playing with goes dead i can grab a different one, considering i can not play and charge at the same time.

Bloodraid5760d ago

I completely agree. In fact, this is essentially useless to anyone with an older PS3 with 4 ports, or anyone with less than 3 controllers. Also; you can't even use the controllers while charging them this way.

I have 3 controllers (although one is worn out) - and I I always have one charging; and just swap it out whenever the other one begins to die. Takes a total of about 10 seconds of my life, really.

vickers5005760d ago

Some people want to charge ALL of their controllers at once, and may not have enough usb ports open, especially the ones who didn't buy a ps3 at launch. Also, some people may only have one charging cord. It may be fine for you to charge one controller at a time, but some people play games in the same room, and need to have the controllers fully charged always without having to a couple of hours for one to charge just so they can put the next one in.

For others like me, it's just a nifty, time-saving, port saving, charging solution.

I can keep the controller plugged into a PC with Windows overnight, no issues here. It also charges at lightning speed, so even if it runs out during a game, it's a short break of push-ups until it's ready.

Desz5761d ago

That a boy, getting a work-out while waiting for your DualShock to charge up. I tend to do at least 20 push-ups in between loading screens. I was getting ripped when playing Modnation Racers...*5 minute loading screens*

Solidus187-SCMilk5761d ago (Edited 5761d ago )

But I can plug them both in to my netbook and charge them right next to me while playing.

One of my tvs has a usb port on the side and it can charge both of them as well.

I guess you can use them both for games on PC if you have the usb charging cables. Ive never tried.

wicked5761d ago (Edited 5761d ago )

Does the PS3 charge the controller when it's on standby?

AssassinHD5761d ago

The PS3 does not charge the controllers during standby. There is an accessory you can buy that will charge your controllers directly from the wall, or you can plug your controllers into a PC.

1Victor5761d ago (Edited 5761d ago )

LOL if You buy any of gamestop cheap wall chargers for the psp/ds they doubles as a wall/USB charger for anything USB related I'm charging my cellphone on it as I write this on it p:-) .
Since I have 2 controllers for the ps3 and 360 I always have one charged wile playing with the other but I guess its good if you have more than 2 controllers to buy that .

BloodyNapkin5760d ago

And while you keep your PC on overnight running to charge your controllers that about 300-500 bucks a year you just wasted. But hey look at this way, you are doing push up's.

But really trying to justify this is so stupid as how all PS3 fanboys do. Not being able to play and charge is stupid (due to cord length) and having to leave the PS3 on to charge controllers is also stupid.

And actually i do not no what is more stupid Sony doing those things or you leaving your computer on overnight.

Queers of War5760d ago

Wow, I've never seen so much sh*t spewing from one comment. You CAN play and charge, as the cord IS long enough. If not, then use an extension. Jesus, are you playing 3 rooms away from your TV or something?

Second, did you expect something to be able to charge from a source that has its power off? The hell? But in any case, that is why you charge while playing, or charge from your laptop or PC. Problem solved.

Now...how much money do you think 360 fanboys have spent on individual batteries and/or the battery packs? What justifies those purchases?

Mista T5761d ago

it's never been hard in the first place

NegativeCreepWA5761d ago

It is when your playing a game and they only give you 4 foot cable.

duplissi5761d ago

lol yeah but even then for me thats not a problem because i have a dozen or so usb mini cables 8ft and up.

adlt5760d ago

They came with a USB extender, it's quite nice actually. So now I have a 8-9 foot USB :D look for one online?

BloodyNapkin5760d ago

The point is, it should have came ready being able to play and charge or being to charge while the PS3 is off. And you can not do either one. So yes you have to go buy something extra along with the mic i had to go buy and HD cables i had to go buy and replace my controller that didn't have rumble i had to go buy and buying something to charge my controllers i had to go buy.

Emmettcelticfan5761d ago (Edited 5761d ago )

I just charge mine on the laptop when im using it to play a game. Or simply keep them charged and not let them dip under 2 bars of battery.or plug them into my sound system when I have U2 blasting out. The title makes it seem that they have to run on a hampster wheel to generate the electricity to charge their controllers

Iceman X5761d ago

For $3 i bought 8ft USB extension cable so when my controller needs to be charge i plug it up while i play.

Kishin5760d ago

Yeah I do the same, I bought a long ass USB extension cable on ebay.ca and charge the controller when needed.

Look I know VIII has its issues and all that but how on earth can the do big anniversary events with new artwork and merchandise for VII, IX and X yet VIII got sweet f*** all.

They could have given it something during its 25th anniversary yet all it got was a single Happy Anniversary post on their social media.

solideagle16d ago

they should know that we are OG fans of VIII as it sold truckload as well. not as much as VII or X. I personally didn't like IX but X and VI are my personal fav.

Shadow Hearts 2 covenant is another game I love. I hope one day someone can make remake, I would be delighted

Final Fantasy VIII is great and you are always the first to defend it in the comments

"Gaming’s Biggest Fighting Franchise"

Press X to (seriously) doubt.

DarXyde23d ago

Underrated comment. I used to hate that game so much that any time my siblings asked me to play it, I just picked Hom and shut myself down mid-match.

Soy24d ago

And then MK1 killed it again.

15 years went by so fast. I remember playing through the story mode at launch.
