Gamespot Preview: Operation Flashpoint: Red River First Impressions

Gamespot writes:

Codemasters is promising to improve Operation Flashpoint across the board in Red River, as Gamespot found out on a visit to the studio.

Last year's Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising was a success for publisher Codemasters--released in a busy end-of-year period, it still managed to score a number two position in the UK charts. Now, the same team is back with Red River, which is currently halfway through development and being prepped for release on PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 in 2011. Though it will still be a faithfully realistic shooter, the team in Leamington Spa, UK, is taking a slightly new direction with this entry in the series, applying a cool new visual aesthetic to the game while also aiming to make it more accessible. Gamespot found out how it was all coming together on a recent trip to see the studio, meet the talent behind the game, and see it in action.

It IS about a military simulation. I got my run 'n' gun fps games! I want a military simulation which Flashpoint series was known for. Not another call of duty and bad company clone. I will pas codemasters. You let me down with Dragon Rising. I will not be fooled this time.

They made just as many boasting/hype comments about how revolutionary this was and how great that was etc about dragon rising and it was all bullsh!t. Here we go again. I appreciate their deviation from the run and gun but as far as I'm concerned it fell far far short of their hype. I wont be holding my breath on this one. They really have their work cut out for them if they want to lure back the 1000's of disappointed and disillusioned fans to this new O.F. game. I hope Codemasters delivers ,so I don't have to burn this game instead of throwing my money away on another CM game

i spent good 6months reviewing watching trailers interviews. untill the launch of dragon risieng.the game i had VERY high hopes for.onnly to find AI bugs. the shots not register as they should getting disconnected. the multiplayer wasnt good online. all the videos they showed ingameplay and they said we could do. was all fabractation.i could not go anywere i pleased. i could not just a take a chopper and fly off. i did not feel free. the vieachles didnt feel realistic. and there many other issues i found. even thoe they brought a patch out.they didnt solve the major issues.as of this video i have not heard no appologies for the last games disapointment witch had high potential to take first place. witch im not supprised cos being as a member of codemasters and on the forums when u have 1 person who runs the whole forum on dragon riseing that fobs anguery users.off everytime its supprising.if the developers spent time to look at what the fans were complaining about for themselvs this game would need a major relook. after first few months when the game got realesed i still telling myself it will get fixed. unfortuanlty i had to give up look like a muppet to my m8'swho also bought it after me keep telling them of what i learnt about the comming title.CODEMASTERS are my british devs they rock at racing games.they do the best.i hope they make a big change.

Some mediocre - crap games there. Couldn't even include any Codemasters racing games? It's the only thing they're good at.

Canadiangamernet4328d ago

Including the Dirt series in the bundle would have been awesome but i wouldn't say they are crappy games. I liked Overlord 1 & 2 and both Operation Flashpoint are decent FPS the other one are so so for me.

guitarded774328d ago

Like I said... crappy to mediocre. I liked Overlord too. Didn't care for Operation Flashpoint. But eve liking Overlord, I have no illusions that it isn't a mediocre game.

AntsPai4328d ago

Even though it's still technically a good deal, the whole $5 or £4 thing annoys me. Humble bundle doesn't do this. No thanks.

Operation Flashpoint: Red River - The Shooter That Could Have Been The Greatest

Mobile & Apps: "One of the most underrated shooters of the previous generation was Operating Flashpoint: Red River for the Xbox 360, PS3, and PC. With all its problems, I believe this is a game that is worth playing, however, it is not too hard to see why the game didn't quite kick off, as it should have."

Loved this game, it was dumbed down from Dragon Rising but still an enjoyable game. Was still offputting to people looking for instant/non stop action

Ha! Some colleagues and I are actually planning on hitting this one up tonight. Great game.
