How Killzone 3 Will Outgun Killzone 2

It was actually a little surprising to hear Guerrilla focus on the storyline of KZ3 during early interviews. They really believe they dropped the ball just a bit in terms of narrative and engaging dialogue in KZ2, and they fully intend to show more of the back-story in the upcoming entry.

i'd be happy with bigger battlefields, kz2 felt much too narrow and linear for my taste.

Darkstorn5767d ago

The gameplay was meant to be claustrophobic, and the playable character is supposed to have a low viewpoint and be somewhat unwieldy. It's one of the many touches that differentiates Killzone from every other shooter out there.

Thrillhouse5767d ago

Wait, what? Corridor and linear shooting is exclusive to Killzone? Killzone is a great game, but come on, that's just bull.

Umm . . .

RedDead5766d ago

Why are you getting defensive over that comment, why would it need to be claustrophobic? KZ needs bigger battlefields, it suit's the game, it suited online.

The only thing that set it apart from other shooters was the feel of it, shooting etc. Being a corridor shooter doesn't make it differant because alot off shooters are.

OrganicMachine5766d ago

no, the reason why the viewpoint is lower because the camera is right on the CHest of the avatar.. which is odd..

IHateYouFanboys5766d ago

geeze some of you speak rubbish lol.

@OrganicMachine: " the reason why the viewpoint is lower because the camera is right on the CHest of the avatar.. which is odd.."

so when you aim down the sights, youre doing what? moving your eyeballs down to your chest? cause the view doesnt suddenly jump a foot and a half up to head height lol. the viewpoint in Killzone 2 is NOT on the chest of your character - they just got the height wrong somehow.

@Darkstorn: "The gameplay was meant to be claustrophobic"

actually it was meant to be the exact opposite. it was supposed to be a big all out war.

" the playable character is supposed to have a low viewpoint and be somewhat unwieldy"
both incorrect.

i love the part in this article where he says "One of the main reasons KZ2 was so impressive is because it was essentially the first FPS to actually give us a feeling of realism through character weight. "

mustve forgotten about many other games, like Battlefield Bad Company, which released 6+ months earlier, and featured 'weight' but didnt have the 200ms of input lag. you know, the way 'weight' should be handled in a game.

raztad5766d ago

"mustve forgotten about many other games, like Battlefield Bad Company, which released 6+ months earlier, and featured 'weight' but didnt have the 200ms of input lag. you know, the way 'weight' should be handled in a game."

Yeah you may be right, nobody remember BC1. It was rather unremarkable.

Ot: KZ3 will a huge step up from KZ2. GG is doing its best to get stuff fixed. KZ3 is a very special KZ, this is the first time GG gets a second game in the same console. Expect something huge.

Wh15ky5766d ago (Edited 5766d ago )

"the viewpoint in Killzone 2 is NOT on the chest of your character - they just got the height wrong somehow"

I was under the impression it was just to make headshots harder.

Darkstorn: "The gameplay was meant to be claustrophobic"

IHateYouFanboys: "actually it was meant to be the exact opposite. it was supposed to be a big all out war."

I don't agree with either of these comments. Parts of the single player felt "claustrophobic" and others felt like "all out war", it was a good balance IMO.

sikbeta5766d ago

People complaining about battlefields when they showed some artistic images of how the places are going to be -> [BIG] and when GG themselves said they're going to make it better than KZ2, corridor? Pffft... it's KZ3D we are talking about...

KZ3D FTW!!!

Yeah because in Battlefield you so can blow someones head off in that game uh?

Oh an all of its glitchs makes it feel like MW2 all over again.

God I love people that troll, its fun to see how smart they are (Not).

Traveler5766d ago

It sounds like Guerrilla is on the right track for Killzone 3. I like the improvements that they have talked about and I can't wait until they reveal more.

Poseidon5767d ago

i want to see the jungle levels, 3d ofcourse, the melee looks awesome, i also want to see how ps move functions with it, cant wait to see the helghan culture, the new tighter controlls and ofcourse the online.

SonyNGP5767d ago

3D is gonna make the game look like shit.

Poseidon5767d ago

its an option, but hell, the more the merrier

SOAD5767d ago (Edited 5767d ago )

When you make a game 2D and then post-convert to 3D, it will look like shit.

If you build the game with 3D as a principle feature during development, then the game will look better but will still be compromised in terms of texture resolution and overall image resolution due to hardware limitations.

Therefore, I see no benefit in 3D for this game. It works the same way for movies. Avatar was filmed using the 3D tech, while The Last Airbender was converted to 3D after productions. While Avatar looks amazing, The Last Airbender in 3D looks like shit.

Edit: @thereapersson

I sure hope so. But it might not fit on one disc. PS3 exclusives are starting to take advantage of the disc already. God of War 3 was like 40 gigs or something. GG would have to keep the game under 25 gigs in size if they want to duplicate the non-3D assets on the same disc.

thereapersson5767d ago

There will be a regular mode on the disc, in its regular resolution and framerate. This is the advantage of Blu-Ray...

3D bubbles
it's an option like everyone is saying, i hate how people (not you) are going to nitpick at this game because of optional features. There is a reason it is called optional

RedDead5766d ago (Edited 5766d ago )

I think I would prefare not to waste time and money on 3d and disk space. 3d isn't this generation. Wait till next gen or maybe even two gens from now. Wait till 3d is mainstream. HD is only reaching it's potential now and we're already moving on from it.

Edit-- And so what if it's an Option, the game could be even better in 2d if they didn't waste time doing 3d.

Just think about it. How many of you have 3d tv's right now?

Games4M - Rob5766d ago (Edited 5766d ago )

After playing the game in both 2D and 3D at the Sony Beta Rooms event then i have to say that the 3D in this game does absolutely nothing for it.

You basically have your gun on one plane in the foreground and then everything else on a seperate plane in the background - it feels completely tacked on and I was very dissapointed.

The 2D version however is just as good as you imagine but one of the main things that stood out was the audio. The assault rifle sounds seriously mean now, everyone who was there noticed it.

raztad5766d ago

@Games4M

Lucky you. I think I saw some of your videos. Nice job.

BTW, I'm gonna wait for the game to be finished before to jump into conclusions. It is pretty clear KZ3 is just at the door of the optimization process, there is a lot of fine tuning to do. I'd be extremely surprised if Sony release a sub par 3D implementation in KZ3, considering how big the game is, and how important as a showcase of the tech.

Games4M - Rob5766d ago

Cheers man.

Unfortunatley Killzone 3 was one of teh games we werent allowed to photograph or video so i havent got any footage of that one.

Just to be clear though the 3D effect didnt noticeably make the game look worse, it just wasnt as "WOW!" an effect as what Motorstorm Apocalypse had - which was pretty much on a par with seeing Avatar for the first time.

sikbeta5766d ago

KZ3D FTW!!!

I can't understand how people whine about something they hate for some unknown reason or simply don't like it for another unknown reason, hey, be glad, no one is pointing you with a 12-gauge shotgun to play it in 3D, it's an OPTION, you Choose...

@Poseidon
Guerrilla announced their will be a jungle level

@SOAD
I don’t think 3D requires a lot of extra storage space; the same environment is rendered twice from slightly different angels.

KZ3 in 2D is already much better than KZ2 from what we have seen, and I think we are over estimating the resource pull of 3D, Guerrilla said that it's not as difficult as people think.

Focker4205767d ago

Beta, beta, beta, beta, beta, beta, beta, beta, beta, beta, beta, beta, beta.....

Beta. :)

Nitrowolf25767d ago (Edited 5767d ago )

I am hoping the story will have deph to it, FPS have really lost the story attraction, i want KZ3 to do that make you feel like you are doing something instead of just shooting enemies.

Bigger maps would be sweet and an online cover system (actually forgot if KZ2 had this)

vehicles would be nice but not have them over power, i like the jet pack thing bring that online

Vareity of location, to me KZ2 online maps all felt the same in some way, i want jungle, and other areas

better clan support, party support,
More weapon and not limited to one or 2 per stage for the special fun weapons.

In-game recording integrated and screen cap, not many games use these Sony needs to get this into all first party games being released, they need to push other developer to use this 2, they feel so ignored.

Darkstorn5767d ago

Yeah, I found it strange that there was no way to take cover in multiplayer. I bet they'll include it this time around.

And yes, more maps.

kneon5766d ago

They have been very quiet about the multi-player, they must have something big in the works. They have said they are making bigger maps so I'm hoping they up the player count to go along with that.

i3eyond the Circle5767d ago

All the last one really needed was a community that was dedicated...I'm more tahn sure Guerilla would of supported an active community on the scale of Call of Duty or Halo.

I was utterly disappointed in the decline of the active Killzone 2 players....I met more gamers and had more fun in the beta sadly.

swiftshot935766d ago

Yep. Better controls, matchmaking, new gameplay mechanics, more content all around (maps, modes, features) and a larger install base will definitely help this time around though.

Gawdl3y5766d ago

Matchmaking sucks. Please don't tell me they're getting rid of the server lists?

TheBand1t5766d ago

PLEASE keep server lists. Put in a "Quickplay" button for those who like matchmaking, but PLEASE keep the server list.

There's too many games to choose from

No Metal geat solid 1,2,3,4?
No Resident evil?
No Silent hill?
No Midnight club 3?
No NfS Underground 2?
No Final Fantasy?
No Burnout 3?
No Dragon quest 8?
No Days gone?
No Ace combat?
No Tekken/Soul calibur?......
just from the top of my head

PS1 era was full of great RPGs, PS2 was racing generation i would pick top 200 and even that would be just a fraction.

FinalFantasyFanatic541d ago

30 is way too low over the entire history of Playstation, I just wouldn't be able to narrow it down that much, I would pick 100 at least.

Storm23541d ago

Yeah...really odd list. I get that it is personal preference and I love most of the games listed, but my list would definitely be different. I agree though, it would be incredibly difficult to come up with just 30.

lockedongamer1541d ago (Edited 541d ago )

I only picked first-party titles. Otherwise, I agree!

EDIT: Except for Days Gone, I don't get the love for it but you do you!

Chocoburger531d ago

I didn't like Days Gone either, it doesn't deserve to be on any best of list.

Up there with the top tier in the industry. Love Guerrilla Games - Horizon Burning Shores is simply STUNNING.

1Victor1107d ago

SullysCigar1107d ago

Same. They nailed it with Horizon. The trouble is I also want a new Killzone! Can't I just have it all?!

jznrpg1107d ago

I’m with you I want Horizon 3 , Killzone and new IPs

badz1491106d ago

I have yet to play Burning Shores as I just started Forbidden West (bought at launch, just unwrapped last weekend LOL) and playing on PS5.

man...I still can't believe the graphics especially now I'm playing it on my LG OLED. that graphics and with stable performance backing it up, GG really is the master of their craft!

Vengeance11381107d ago

32.7M sales in the Horizon franchise! With 8.4M coming from Forbidden West alone! Truly a hugely successful game and franchise as a whole. Looking forward to Horizon III

Shane Kim1107d ago

That's kind of a huge drop though. It's only been two games.

VersusDMC1107d ago

One year after realease HZD sold 7.6 million.

https://www.noobfeed.com/ne...

So not a drop off.

Unless you're saying a HFW should have sold as much now as HZD sold in 5 years?

Vengeance11381107d ago

It's been 3 games, this includes Call of the Mountain. Also no, its a great improvement over HZD.

solideagle1107d ago

lol you are comparing:

HZD: 28 February 2017 - May 2023 (6 years+)

HFW: 18 February 2022 - May 2023 (1 year+)

We will see if it surpass original number.

Phoenix761107d ago

@shane, 2 full main games, 2 DLC add ons, 1 VR spin off game, oh and a an official LEGO set.

Yooo, when I first saw that Killzone 1 footage at E3, my friends my brothers and I were like, Holy shit! When it came out, it didn't look exactly like it, but we sunk so many hours into 1 & 2.

I even liked Killzone: SF, it was a spectacle to look at, and even today it looks good. I hope they make a new one. Can you imagine how that will look, and they can get some modern FPS pointers from Bungie.

blacktiger1107d ago

thank you fps lover, I'm with you

talocaca1107d ago

Such a wonderful studio. They deserve all their success.

The Decima Engine is absolute 🔥 I'm just mad they have abandoned Killzone.

OzzY-waZZy1107d ago (Edited 1107d ago )

Kinda wish they move on from Horizon tbh.

lukasmain1107d ago

They are probably working on mutiple projects. One of them is Horizon 3, but another is a multiplaer game and probably somehting else.

Imalwaysright1107d ago

There were rumours that they were working on a Socom reboot.

Killzone 3 is playable with mouse & keyboard on PC via RPCS3 & KAMI

Still looks secure 2 gens later... one of my favorite ps3 moments. With 3D and move the game is on another level

MadLad1858d ago

PC almost always ends up the best place to play games, even if it takes a while.

What would you rather play decades down the line? A game at a fixed resolution and frame, considering you have a working disc, and the hardware?
Or run it on an emulator that can update the experience all around, and let you use whatever control input you prefer?

If you insist on the former, it's really only for the sake of nostalgia.

Applejack1858d ago

I disagree. The main draw for consoles has always be the simplicity of just putting the disc in / downloading it and playing without worrying about anything else. The average person just wouldn’t want to deal with emulation even though it’s very important for preservation.

Terry_B1858d ago

Even emulators are super simple to use.

jukins1858d ago

Youre getting flak because people on here thibk of themselves as pc wizards. But honestly most poeple try and go get emulators and romz they end up with malware.. yes theyre "easy" if you know the basics but alot of people dont. That said the fact that its taken nearly 20 years to get a sustantially better experience for ps3 games than on its native system shows the complexity of getting bc to work. Sony, if they have any intention, should just invest in a vastly better psnow experience.

1858d ago
Vegamyster1858d ago

jukins

Most people who emulate don't get malware, you'd have to be going to some weird sites for that to happen, heck years ago people were getting sketchier ad's resulting in malware warning on this site if you didn't have a ad-blocker lol.

SinkingSage1858d ago

Can't get malware if you legally dump your own games, which you should.

Rachel_Alucard1858d ago (Edited 1858d ago )

That's fine if that's the main draw, but it doesn't make it a better experience, just a preference. Having the freedom to do the things you can do on PC is what the appeal of PC is. Buying a game on PC means you never have to worry about the console makers just deciding the next hardware shouldn't support the generation anymore, which means everything you bought is stuck on that hardware instead of moving up with everything else. Nintendo uses this tactic to keep reselling the same games over and over at inflated prices. Sony cut all previous gens off the PS4 and sold it back to people in a poor attempt with PSnow. While the PS5 supports PS4 games, that may not be the case in the next gen after this. No to mention shutting off all the previous stores and updates completely. Even MS stopped making new BC titles at some point, so now there's a big list with 17 pages of titles that are not playable on Xbone and are just trapped on older gen. That's not a problem on PC, the reverse happens where you only have to worry if your hardware can play the newest releases at ultra with no issue.

AzubuFrost1858d ago

Shhh don't say that aloud! You're going to trigger a lot of console infidels here.

Shane Kim1858d ago

I rather play it when it's available then wait 10 years.

MadLad1857d ago

Did you purposely miss the entire point of my post?

Inverno1858d ago

Well that's the beauty of still owning a retro console tho. Those who usually complain about emulation are just being blindly loyal to a company. Emulation is great for many reason, but if I still owned the console then I disagree nothing beats plugging it back in and going down a nostalgia trip
