Confirmed: Ninja Theory Working on New Capcom Game

We're not going to call this a rumor, add a question mark to the headline, or even use the phrase "with a grain of salt." ConsolePress can confirm without a doubt that the talented team at Ninja Theory is working on a new game for Capcom, though what's even more intriguing than the partnership is what they'll be working on.

whatever you do capcom, don't have talented devs like ninja theory reinvent Strider or anything, nooo we need more devil may cry games. /s blech!

edit-after playing heavenly sword and seeing enslaved, strider would be a perfect game for them. just covering my ass before the dmc fanboy onslaught.

DJ5767d ago

A remake of some long lost franchise.

TrevorPhillips5767d ago

Are these the game you have in mind DJ

- Resident Evil 2
- Resident Evil 3
- Dino Crisis
- Onimusha

DelbertGrady5767d ago

If it's any of those I hope it's Onimusha, since I love that series and think it would be the best fit for Ninja Theory.

ZombieAutopsy5766d ago (Edited 5766d ago )

I don't think NT should do a Onimusha game only because the games are based around Japan and it's history so it wouldn't really be right IMO.

Would be interesting if they had them make a Chaos Legion 2 even though I don't think many even know about the first.

mikeslemonade5766d ago

They need Team Ninja instead of Ninja Theory. Ninja Theory is known for making great environments, good story, and slow gameplay which is similair to what capcom does namely in Devil May Cry. Team Ninja would help make a better fighting system which is where DMC is kind of broken.

DJ5766d ago

But it looks like DMC is in the cards. DMC 4 wasn't all that great, and really just felt like the PS2 iterations with better graphics. The size of the environments (and environment interactivity) was exactly the same though. I'm sure Ninja Theory will do wonders with that IP.

no it probably is devil may cry just like those rumors a while back said it would be
i really don't doubt it at this point

just great i guess i can expect the next DMC game to be 2 hours long
i pass!!!

Silly gameAr5767d ago

I do hope it's multiplat though. Less whining from NT and I won't feel bad for buying this game full price like I did Heavenly Sword. Sorry I bought Heavenly Sword Ninja Theory. My bad.

DJ5766d ago

Can you image doing combos against Velociraptors? I'd be down for that.

Game-ur5766d ago

@dizzleK
You have to be ancient to remember Strider. Anyway I agree it would be a perfect fit for NT, I'm also optimistic, this is the first time CapCom outsourced development to a proven studio.

ABizzel15766d ago

I thought this said Team Ninja at first. Well they've proved they can make good action games, so my guess is it may be something like Strider, Onimusha, etc. I would Love a new Strider a good ninja game has been hard to find this gen (Ninja Gaiden Sigma's have been the only ones).

Foxgod5766d ago

Onimusha is based around history?
Its pure fiction with a feudal japanese background.
What is Ninja theory currently working on?
Exactly, a game with a feudal chinese background (journey to the west).

Ninja theory would be perfect for Onimusha.

RockmanII75767d ago

The game won't come out until 2012 at the earliest, so I'll start caring then. But if true, that means that Enslaved will not have a sequel no matter how good it is.

hot4play5767d ago

It could be Devil May Cry, Strider, or Onimusha...well, those are logical choices anyway.

Dino Crisis would be totally unexpected and cool... :0

TrevorPhillips5767d ago

Is there a button where I can agree more than a million times with the guy above :)

Leonesaurus5766d ago

OMG.... O___O Mark my words HERE and NOW... If they ever announce a new Dino Crisis game, for the first time in nearly 10 years, I swear to f-ing God I'm going to rip my clothes off, put on a sombrero, and ride a donkey into town like one of the three amigos, while swinging my cock up in the air like an f-ing lasso!!!!!! Yeah.... XD

With that insanity of joy being said, I would also LOVE to see the next Devil May Cry game VERY much as well!! My friend would agree with me 100% on that last one.

yewles15767d ago

Keep the AWAY from DMC and Onimusha. Just give'em Strider.

ZombieAutopsy5767d ago

Damn these guys have 2 different publishers already this gen and now a 3rd, gotta say though i can't fvcking wait and i hope its DMC as i just bought HS and it's been one hell of a game and DMC seems like it'll fit their style.

Take note, Sony, you're falling behind by a lot.

-Foxtrot56d ago (Edited 56d ago )

I was just going to say this, their biggest and top rated game here is TLOU2 for PC….it’s embarrassing.

Even Ubisoft and EA are ahead

Kind of surprised Nintendo is pretty low aswell, their biggest game is also a rerelease with the Switch 2 version of TotK.

StoneColdCrazy55d ago

That’s what happens when you start shutting down your own studios and forget what actually made you matter in the industry in the first place. Sony used to set the standard — now it feels like they’ve lost that identity. And if they decide to walk away from the PC market too, that’s going to be another huge mistake — that platform is only growing, and ignoring it now would just put them even further behind.

1Victor56d ago

@christopher:” Take note, Sony, you're falling behind by a lot.”
.
Why single out Sony? Microsoft didn’t do any better than the year before 5th same as Sony 9th and they have acquired activision and other mayor titles that have boosted their score massively from a 9th and Sony a 4th the year before the acquisitions.
Sony does need to do better without a doubt and I do hope they do take note but not the note of buying publishers is the way to succeed.

Christopher56d ago

1. Microsoft didn't get worse.
2. Sony got way worse.
3. Because Sony needs the criticism the most considering their publishing output this generation has been propped up by last gen ports and third-party developers for the most part.

thesoftware73055d ago

1Victor,

I don't wanna speak for Christopher, but like most of us we recognize that Sony's output this Gen has been way below their own standards.

Also Sony did buy a fair amount of Devs, I know you will say they were not publishers, and don't compare in size, but they had their fair share of Aquisitions, including the very well established Bungie.

The overall point is with their stellar first party track record of the past, they should not be going down, they are singled out because they are some of the best videogame devs/publisher on the planet...no matter what reasons we attribute to the situation, they are moving in the wrong direction... period.

KyRo55d ago

Its widely accept that Sony this generation has been underwhelming. We've had more peripheral releases, controller variants, PS5 accessories than games it feels like. The exclusives were also PS4 and what little output they have put exclusively on PS5 is nowhere near as memorable as what came in every generation before that.

This isn't a Sony hate post but anyone who's older and has been around for a long time gaming will agree that PS5 is by far Sony's worst generation. As much as Xbox is in the gutter, I pray the do bounce back in the hope we get Sony to wake up again.

darthv7255d ago (Edited 55d ago )

If you want to critique MS... you are doing so towards their management. The games output and their hardware have been much better than PS this gen. Sadly... people still hold a grudge against XB because of MS. Thankfully i am not that petty... I've been enjoying their games output in the drought of PS. And add in some NS1/2 games as well to balance things out. Things will change for me once Wolverine hits, and I start using my 5 more. That one I'm looking forward to. And the Marvel fighter... I'm not a GTA player so that has no bearing on my view of things.

Big part of that has been the live service push resulting in cancellation or flop after flop but when they put out the games their fans want we get amazing stuff like astro bot

Leadership really screwed the pooch trend chasing

Well I apologize I was wrong about not doing worse but my statement of Microsoft getting a boost still stand 🤷🏿

55d ago
1Victor55d ago

Well OBSCURED unlike you I’m honorable enough to recognize when I’m wrong and apologize.
.
@ The software you know there’s no comparison between what Microsoft acquired and what Sony acquired that’s why you tried to get ahead of the conversation, yes we all know Sony can do better than what they have done this gen but they inhaled the poison GAS they thought would bring money for years but we make sure they got the message and quite a few games got cancelled you know as well a hit like that take years to be corrected and by now they hopefully will have taken steps away from the GAS and slowed their approach to them.

You will say anything when you are in denial that your hardware is dead and nobody wants your platform. Good luck with Helix because nobody will buy it.

But... but... the garbage-mongers always tell us that Square Enix is in trouble! 😂

Christopher56d ago

Square doesn't help that it fear mongers itself with ridiculous 'goals' that they can't reach and then they proclaim failure if they don't reach it. They're quite freaking profitable and people act like they're dying.

SimulationDaily56d ago (Edited 56d ago )

Keep in mind that these "proclamations" are usually third-hand bad translations from somedude who was at the investor conference, posted on Twitter, and picked up by press and youtubers like they were gold, and then when the official translation comes out, they're much softer statements, but at that point, the damage is done.

gold_drake56d ago

to be very fair

being number one on these things does not indicate how "well" their games do selling wise.

Capcom Insists It Won't Use AI-Generated Assets in Its Games, Will Harness Tech during Development

Capcom has clarified its current stance on generative AI in its videogames. The major Japanese publisher and developer behind popular series like Resident Evil, Street Fighter, and Monster Hunter has revealed that while it doesn't use gen-AI assets in their games, it is exploring ways to use generative AI to streamline the game development process.

Chocoburger56d ago

Using Artificial Intelligence (more like Realistic Stupidity) art assets in your games is a great way to get people to boycott your product. We don't need that ugly, unsophisticated, generic, fake art in our games, good on CAPCOM for not using that garbage.

blacktiger56d ago

Naw you can't fool us, You work with Nvidia, that's a fact! And here you wanted to advertise but now look stupid!
