Dead Rising vs Dead Rising 2 - comparison

A lot has changed since Dead Rising’s first outing on the 360 way back in 2006. The locale is new, our protagonist is a little more rugged and the exclusivity that Microsoft once lauded has disappeared. Dead Rising 2 is soon to hit our screens...Megabits of Gaming looks at how the two games compare...

it still has the time limits and awful structure of the first game?

it has now gone from day 1 purchase to being gamefly fodder.

edit-the saves didn't bother me, it was the fact that you couldn't explore. sorry if i don't find feeling limited and rushed fun.

DelbertGrady5818d ago (Edited 5818d ago )

I hated that aspect as well. You were forced to rush through the game. If they keep that and don't add a 'free mode' option they are f*cking retarded.

I don't get why people disagree with your statement. That's what kept the first game from becoming truly great. That and Otis...

Krimmson5818d ago

"Hey, that was rude of you to hang up on me!"

Fuck you Otis! A fucking zombie bit my shin you headfuck! Stop trying to tell me that I can go to the playground section here!

Perjoss5818d ago

this is a bit wrong, you were never forced to do anything in dead rising! in fact one of the many endings is for (**minor spoiler ahead**) just sitting in the security office and doing nothing. If you only play the main story parts and never try to rescue any optional survivors you actually have tons of free time to explore.

DuneBuggy5818d ago (Edited 5818d ago )

Part of me wishes it was more like other sandbox games and the "clock" doesnt start ticking untill you start the mission. But what I did with Dead Rising was goof off, have fun,do some missions, etc and build up experience since it carried over. Did that quite a few times. By the time I did my "final" playthrough,i knew who to save, how much time I had, already had a experienced player from the start making getting back up to speed easy...etc
So it kind of worked for me.

If you kill the clown and have the right literature on hand, you can really do some damage quickly without a ton of worries.....
DR2 looks like a day one purchase for me so far.

cemelc5818d ago (Edited 5818d ago )

To me the most game breaking deal with the game was the plot. Im not expecting a oscar winning script from a zombie game (except Re 2 and 3), but damn thats got to be one of the worst plot in game history.

The time thing kinda gets on the nerves at some point got to agree with that

tplarkin75818d ago

You should be able to walk around at your own pace. Maybe there will be a "New Game+" mode where they will remove that restriction.

HolyOrangeCows5818d ago

"Sadly the game save frustrations from the original have apparently not completely been addressed, and exploration still appears restricted by missions and strict time limits like those in the first game"
That bites.

Still looking forward to it. I like the weapon customization aspect.

The time constraints were the worst part of the first game, and made me not want to play it.

Danja5818d ago

The save feature was just as bad

BuIIetproofish_5818d ago

The first game was so tedious, but I still enjoyed it. This is the third game to get for me.

jay25818d ago

I'm loving DR 2, really loved DR.

Skadoosh5818d ago (Edited 5818d ago )

Very excited for this one. The first Dead Rising is one of my favorite games of all time. But I'm a huge fan of George A. Romero so the first one was right up my alley.

Report: New Dead Rising Game in Development, Now Set In Hollywood

A new Dead Rising is in the works, and we have the first plot details on this entry, which takes Frank West back to the action.

scorpio_2049222d ago

Please make it in a theme park or something extravagant like the original mall and casino(but different). DR is all about bigger than life environments, not some realistic gritty town.

isarai222d ago

Ugh, the last one was so trash bro 😔

TheColbertinator222d ago

Hollywood blvd is already full of zombies anyway

Capcom announces next event to showcase Dead Rising and Resident Evil

Capcom has just announced its own event where it will showcase some of the upcoming titles it is working on.

Fishy Fingers743d ago

"RESIDENT EVIL 7 biohazard for iPhone/iPad/Mac."

Feels like a deliberate omission from the title.

Babadook7742d ago

How wish it was...

"RESIDENT EVIL 7 biohazard for iPhone/iPad/Mac/PSVR2."

Sonic1881743d ago

"Note: this event will not include news or updates for other titles."

Armyofdarkness743d ago

Code Veronica! Or 9. Wish they did 1 again first tho

-Foxtrot743d ago

No games being announced unfortunately

Friendlygamer743d ago

I'm hoping they bring the classic versions of 2 and 3 to console

Canceled Dead Rising: Dia De Los Muertos Gameplay Surfaces Online

Videos of the canceled Dead Rising: Dia De Los Muertos have come to light, giving us a look into what the game could have been.

Underpants1237d ago

Shame loved the Dead Rising series. Even enjoyed 4 but not sure why they removed the campain co op.

TheColbertinator1237d ago

A zombie lover like me will always wait for a new Dead Rising.

hotnickles1237d ago

Dead rising 1 was one of my favorite games back in the day. I never got into the others like I did DR1. DR2 was ok but 3 and 4 were kinda lame.

Kakyouin1237d ago

Absolutely agree with you 100%. 1 was A MASTERPIECE even though it had several things that were not that good. But still a very solid title. And the ending was EPIC.

hotnickles1237d ago (Edited 1237d ago )

I agree. I’ll never forget grinding the zombies in the parking tunnels to get the mega buster weapon. Its uniqueness will always stand out to me and is high up on my all-times.

MasterChief36241237d ago (Edited 1237d ago )

When I got over the rather bland art direction of Dead Rising 3, I actually fell in love with that one. Dead Rising 4 on the other hand.... :(

It's a real shame the Super Ultra Dead Rising 3 Arcade Remix Hyper Edition EX + Alpha DLC isn't available on PC. It was one of the best DLCs I've ever played, it was so fun! But alas... I no longer have my Xbox One :(

hotnickles1237d ago

I should give it another try on the newer Xbox controllers. I remember jumping over to the Xbox controller was a big peeve for me. I loved the 360 controller and dead rising was one of my very first games on it. The Xbox one controller felt cheaply and loose and it bugged me. I don’t feel that way with the series x one.

Kakyouin1237d ago

Never played 3 or 4 but I read they weren't the same. As for 1 I guess the character played the "path of the hero" so well, no other title could keep it up with. 2 had to have another instance with Frank. And that's what I loved about the first: Frank was a good for nothing and still was the hero. He was not funny, he was not the hero everybody wanted. He was just there "for a good story". And the psychos..... my goodness!! Adam, the snipers, the three prisoners on the garden, the cult! MY GOODNESS!

Nebaku1237d ago

Good Riddance. Capcom Vancouver's entries are a big stain on what was a great, charming game series.

The ideas shown here are the pinnacle of their ineptness. Yeah, let's remove items on the ground, a core mechanic to the franchise, and one that people would show they still love in BOTW 2 years later.
