hopefully remains free to use

It was a bit annoying, and kind of pointless once steam came out.

GameStop! :p

RockmanII75763d ago (Edited 5763d ago )

I heard that Titan Gaming bought them.

Microshock5764d ago

Apparently 3D Realms bought them. I really do like Xfire. It has much much superior voice quality over Steam chatrooms.

And broadcasting is always nice. Screenshots, etc. Stat tracking.

Too bad the original team had to be let go

N4GAddict5764d ago

I wish them the best of luck

bluedot1335764d ago

3D Realms? Is there a source for that?

Microshock5764d ago

No source just speculation at this point.

Surkov5764d ago

They went out of business, so I don't know how they would have enough capital to buy XFire.

Elven65763d ago

3D Realms never went out of business, they just suffered massive layoffs but they are still very much a company.

In fact, they recently released Duke Nukem: Manhattan Project on XBLA.

TheColbertinator5764d ago

Hope to God its not 3D Realms. They might update Xfire when Duke Nukem Forever releases

bluedot1335764d ago

Its not 3D Realms, that was just Wikipedia spam

does nobody want to approve this story? It's already at 60 deg

I love xfire, i like it better then steam as far as using it for gaming purposes go...it has many more features, unfortunately no one beats steam when it comes to steam sales...

tdrules5764d ago

Steam really needs native screenshots, streaming and recording tbh.
I still wouldn't use Xfire just for those features though.
If I wanna show a friend a game I just boot up Ustream

xchris92x5764d ago

Meh moved to raptr along time ago.

Sidewinder-5763d ago

aye, Raptr is a pretty good service.
Though Xfire IS the 'voice chat while gaming place' to be. Hope nothing sinister goes on with it due to this.

xchris92x5763d ago

It will be good when raptr supports voice chat but luckily I usually only buy games from steam so it's not much of an issue. I think of raptr as a better looking more user friendly version of xfire.

Not looking good. Hopefully Asha Sharma is able to turn Phil’s disaster around.

dveio14d ago

To me it's still quite remarkable how they can cash-in 5.3bn in revenue in a single quarter, since their hardware is basically dead.

Jingsing14d ago

The stock mark is what makes Microsoft remarkable, They have convinced every institutional and retail investor to just keep piling money into them. Like many big tech giants they are just a big growing pyramid scheme. As long as people keep dropping money into ETF's that cover the market Microsoft will always be liquid. At the same time it is completely stifling innovation and competition. People need to start being more discreet in how they invest their money as it's killing the system.

Tanktopmaster9214d ago

Once they re-evaluate exclusive all will be fine….

S2Killinit14d ago

Riiiiight because people will just flock back to them for one or two games per year.

Jingsing14d ago

15+ years of bad performance is what they call irreparable in business. It is time for them to sell off the assets and get out of entertainment.

Tanktopmaster9214d ago

These declines are on the back of extra revenue received from releasing games like Forza horizon 5 on PlayStation. So I’m being sarcastic here when I said they should go back to exclusives. Killing off a revenue stream from Ps5 sales will only make things worse
