5 Games That Failed (When They Shouldn’t Have)

Sometimes, video games fail. Bugs, awful gameplay, shitty story, bad controls and so on. It’s a natural thing, not all video games get to be big and get people out on the street enduring rain just get a copy of it. Sometimes though, you’d expect a certain game to be good, for various reasons: a good prequel, some nice trailer you saw, or an awesome marketing campaign that got you all wet. But then you get your hands on it and you realize it sucks. Big time. How does that make you feel? Ashamed that you trusted the developers? A sucker for falling into the hype trap? Whatever it is you feel, we all went through it, especially in this last year. Here are five games that took us all by surprise with their outstanding shittyness and a sheer amount of disappointment.

I really start growing tired of all those stupid top-blah blah lists that are increasingly submitted on this site. This article is so shallow that I don't even try to seriously comment on what it says.

Urmomlol5765d ago (Edited 5765d ago )

Top X lists have their place and their use. If they educate and entertain, I appreciate them. Look at Cracked.com -- all they do is lists, but they're awesome all the same.

This article has a good premise, but its execution is so half-assed and lazy that it's not even worth writing anything more about it. Seriously --it reads like a 13 year old wrote it.

dizzleK5765d ago

i swear i learn more from cracked in 1 article than i ever did in school. its a great site.

Darkstorn5765d ago

I loved Cracked. Although my conservative friends have sworn off of the site because they sense a "liberal bias." It's comedy, dude. Get over it.

I had a great time playing Splinter Cell: Conviction. It had a great single player campaign, but the co-op campaign is the star of the show and provides some incredible gaming moments. There's just something about coordinating and executing a stealth attack with your friend that's a helluva lotta fun.

Was the game perfect? No. It was by far the easiest Splinter Cell. I also didn't like the fact that you couldn't pick up and move bodies to hide them. It would've been better too if there was a HUD indicator when you were hidden in the dark instead of the screen going black and white. But nevertheless, the game had its challenges, and was very addicting, and very fun.

I was very disappointed with the reviews that Alpha Protocol got. I was looking forward to that one for a very long time, but now I don't even think I should bother playing it. That's one of those games though that deserves a sequel that's done right because the concept is good.

Alpha Protocol could have been so much better.
And they shouldn't have skimped so much on the stealth in Splinter Cell Conviction. Or made it so freaking easy.

Shepherd 2145765d ago

Conviction's stealth wasnt really about being too stealthy, just stealthy enough to get the job done. It was more about being fast and on the edge, which was a nice change of pace that i enjoyed.

Skizelli5764d ago

I have to agree with Johandevries. While I enjoy a good list or two for amusement, there's an overabundance of them lately.

Tikicobra5765d ago

Terrible list. Splinter Cell Conviction and Singularity both rock.

shovelbum5765d ago

Agreed. Enjoy both games quite immensely.

Skizelli5764d ago

Haven't played Conviction, but Singularity was a blast. Why does everything have to innovate these days? Why can't a game just be fun?

marioPSUC5765d ago

Singularity was a pretty fun game, but it just didn't sell well, for some reason people don't buy as many new IP's so most new named games wont sell well unless they get great reviews

And Splinter Cell would have been way better had they stuck to the old Splinter Cell games, instead they decided to cater it to a broader audience and make stealth a lot easier, and really not even needed

Mmmkay5765d ago

cater to a broader audience? by not releasing in on the ps3?

marioPSUC5765d ago

I was talking about the gameplay, obviously they would have made some more money had they put it on PS3 and got some more people to get it, but that wasnt the point of my post, I was talking how they wanted to get more than just the Hardcore fans of the series to buy the game

RandomGamer5765d ago

I do have to agree somewhat about Alpha Protocol.I actually enjoyed it and threw 2 playthroughs never experienced a single bug,yet I do understand there was other problems with the game and the fact that Sega said they won't make a sequel to it saddens me ....it doesn't surprise me.

I just wished it was better tho I would have loved to see a sequel

nycredude5764d ago

I agree AP was actually way better than the score and sales indicate. I loved the conversation and the way the story played out, although a bit cliche. It could have benefited from a bigger budget and longer development time for polishing. There WERE tons of bugs and texture streaming and their anti-aliasing were suspect.

Myst5765d ago (Edited 5765d ago )

The reasoning behind Lost Planet 2's "failing" is quite off in my eyes. The main reason to me is the fights as a whole in the game. There were not enough big boss fights and such and too much of activating those darn data posts. Also Arena Rush should have been in there from the start :/.

Mmmkay5765d ago

that game was just awful and unplayable...

Myst5764d ago

As of right now it is not unplayable. After the update it became better, it's just how it was executed that could have utilized some work. Perhaps if it were like Monster Hunter [no story but kill things - big things] would have been better I guess.

Not looking good. Hopefully Asha Sharma is able to turn Phil’s disaster around.

dveio15d ago

To me it's still quite remarkable how they can cash-in 5.3bn in revenue in a single quarter, since their hardware is basically dead.

Jingsing14d ago

The stock mark is what makes Microsoft remarkable, They have convinced every institutional and retail investor to just keep piling money into them. Like many big tech giants they are just a big growing pyramid scheme. As long as people keep dropping money into ETF's that cover the market Microsoft will always be liquid. At the same time it is completely stifling innovation and competition. People need to start being more discreet in how they invest their money as it's killing the system.

Tanktopmaster9215d ago

Once they re-evaluate exclusive all will be fine….

S2Killinit14d ago

Riiiiight because people will just flock back to them for one or two games per year.

Jingsing14d ago

15+ years of bad performance is what they call irreparable in business. It is time for them to sell off the assets and get out of entertainment.

Tanktopmaster9214d ago

These declines are on the back of extra revenue received from releasing games like Forza horizon 5 on PlayStation. So I’m being sarcastic here when I said they should go back to exclusives. Killing off a revenue stream from Ps5 sales will only make things worse
