Videogamer writes "So accurate is the tracking of Sony's PlayStation Move motion controller that surgeons have likened the technology to $100,000 simulators used to carry out laparoscopic surgery."

"Don't worry, I'm a trained surgeon!"
"Really?"
"Well no, but I've trained with the gaming equivalent of £100,000 medical equipment"

sikbeta5810d ago

PlayStation Move...it's THAT Accurate...

LoVeRSaMa5810d ago

First Folding@Home for medical research and now PlayStation@Move for Surgery Simulation.

Only does.. Medical Advancements?

GWAVE5810d ago

If true, that's pretty cool.

But we've all seen the footage for ourselves. I think we know now that the motion tracking is incredibly accurate.

That's why Japan pawn America , admit it.

RememberThe3575810d ago

Because of a camera and a light?

Move was created by Dr.Marks, and guess what? He's American.

comp_ali5810d ago

Japan made Playstaion and wii and most high tech electronics. ...

hay5810d ago

Speak what you want, hate America as much as you want but the truth is that thanks to American economists that Japan received huge economic boost after WWII.
I don't really remember their names now but I learned about it at university.

And yeah, I'm not American and I don't love this country. Give credit where it's due.

IdleLeeSiuLung5810d ago

That is why Japan uses a lot of technology that comes from the US!

Japan is great, but it ain't alone in the technology powerhouse. US arguably owns most of the most advanced technology companies in the world. At least, it wouldn't surprise me.

Heisenberg5809d ago

We're not talking military tech here, when it comes to gadgets and household electronics etc. Japan takes the cake.

And they have all outsourced to Pakistan, India, Malaysia

IdleLeeSiuLung5810d ago (Edited 5810d ago )

What is your point? Manufacturing is outsourced, because manual labor is cheaper over there.

The majority of research and design is still done in the US and other industrialized nations.

BISHOP-BRASIL5810d ago

Actually Pakistan and India export tech (don't know about Malaysia), specially in the physics, electronics, engineering and software.

Neigher India or Pakistan got that much factories outsourced from heavily industrialised coutries, in fact both countries are still in the industrialization proccess, hence the "newly industrialized" tittle. And it still have services and agriculture as main activities over industry.

You are confusing China, Japan and Taiwan for all of Asia. And still, today, a qualified workforce is a lot more important than cheaper one.

BISHOP-BRASIL5810d ago

There are clever people all around the world, it's thanks to their personal efforts, not the country they were born in. Some coutries offer better education than others indeed but go to any university and see how the best education don't necessarily translate in more wise people.

It never fail to impress me how people can be so cocky to the nationality matter in such a globalized world. The fact you born somewhere don't entitle you to nothing, specially the feeling of superiority based on someone else's personal achievements.

Nihilism5810d ago (Edited 5810d ago )

The hype machine is in overdrive. I think I better get a second job so I can afford Move, and a 3D TV and all those other life changing Sony peripherals that totally have no downsides...

I mean it's not like they would just make insane comments like this to hype their product, because they know idiots believe this stuff word for word. Sony fanboys are like pentecostal bible followers, every word is a literal truth and a guideline for how to live your life. Now everyone take a knee, the sermon is about to begin

@chriss399

I agree that new tech is good, my problem is not with the peripheral, but these insane claims. I'd love to know how these supposedly randomly encountered doctors got their hands on Move to try while having this casual conversation...

It sounds to me like the PR guy was talking up the concept of move and the surgeons said that it sounded like the type of thing they use in surgery aka in no way insinuating it's accuracy is similar.

@chillidemon

PR hype is never true, all companies are guilty but sony takes the cake this gen.

1080p gaming....where is it?

60 frame gaming? where is it?

People will get a second job for PS3? no.

They removed B.C in the middle of the console's lifespan...

My example above...it would seem to me that they are suggesting the concept of it is similar to the type of thing they use in surgery, this wild exaggeration should only be laughed at.

Chris3995810d ago (Edited 5810d ago )

with "fanboys". Wiitards, Xbots, PC elitists and Sony Slaves are all just as sad as their disparate brethren from other camps.

And there's nothing wrong with being excited about new tech, such as motion control devices and 3D tvs. But yes, when you believe the PR tripe from Greenburg, Tretton or Reggie verbatim, there is an issue. That being, you have no sense as a consumer - Omega4 stands out as a stellar example in this regard.

DrDreadlox5810d ago

It's a pc elitist trolling ps3 news. Sure the comment was probably made purely for hype, but why do you care?

ChilliDemon5810d ago

... of course, sometimes the hype is even true.

IdleLeeSiuLung5810d ago

and the majority (like 99.99%) of the time it is not!

Why o why5810d ago (Edited 5810d ago )

everybody hypes....move on and dont get so upset...you are actually starting to sound like an elitist or just somebody who really is taken in by pr...maybe even a little naive. Learn to read in between the lines...ala 60 frames, 1080p etc and realise these things are targets AND hype and NOT absolutes. We have some 1080p games we have some 60fps games so the hardware is obviously capable FACT and console games seem to push the hardware MORE than pc games so im fine. Ive never played an uncharted or wipeout HD or GT5 on pc...hope you get the point

speaking of surgery....I hope they make an 'under the knife' game for move....id buy that real qwik

Nihilism5810d ago (Edited 5810d ago )

Wipeout HD actually switches res mid game in order to maintain 60 frame, GT5 is not actually 1080p either, it is some queer non standard res which is less than 1080p ( the abbreviation for 1920x1080 ) it's like 1280x1080. The games that run at 60 frames also do not look very good, they are also in a minority. The games that run at 1080p....also are not very good graphically. So those 2 'standards' they claimed at the beginning were a lie. It's ok for them to sugar coat it, they get paid to do so, but why are you trying to sugar coat it?

Why do you care that I called them out? There has to be someone around here who will not take everything they say as truth, put it in their little quote file and mention it in every thread for the next 3 years as has been done for every other sony claim.

"the only true 1080p gaming console"...yeah no it isn't.

Chris3995810d ago (Edited 5810d ago )

the PS3 has more native 1080p titles than any other console. There was an article about this the other day. The count was like 32ish (PS3) to 5 (360).

That said, if you want real 1080p gaming, then yes, the PC trumps all. But you have to give Sony credit where credit is due. They do have the most specced out console as well as some of the best looking games this gen. I've seen/ played lots of max rez PC games that look like crap.

Edit: Beyond3D link

http://forum.beyond3d.com/s...

They're also missing Last Rebellion and Trinity Universe. Sure, not graphical powerhouses by any stretch of the imagination, but I'm pretty sure they are 1080p.

Why o why5810d ago (Edited 5810d ago )

We know the ps3 isnt the ultimate infinite ether. Yes we actually know this BUT it IS the best gaming machine for console gamers and some former pc gamers like myself. Stick to your pc if you have so much contempt for sony and their fans...simple. The fact that you're calling sony out over some misinterpreted claims and ideals from nearly 5 years ago just shows you've an axe to grind. Fast forward to 2010 and the ps3 and even the 360 are still making great games regardless of their res or fps so again...what have you been playing on your perfect untouched by hype pc thats so technically excellent WITH gameplay to boot?? Yeah, crysis we know but please list the others, cheers, thx.

'There has to be someone around here who will not take everything they say as truth'

lol Damn you sound bitter...who said we're taking anything as truth..just listen to yourself and remember this is n4g....you sound like those whiny HTC, Samsung, (x) smartphone owners pissed at the love the iphone gets...Yeah we all know most other smart phones are just better than the iphone but the iphone is the IT phone. So yeah, the pc will always be technically superior to consoles but the consoles is where its at.....Im sure you understand that concept even if it burns. oh and in before you tell us which consoles you own.... doesn't matter...we all know what your preference is...*sigh*

"im a samsung wave owner btw "

My TV, Blu-Ray player and amp are all Sony...what's your point?

http://img265.imageshack.us...

I don't hate Sony, I hate marketing people and I hate fanboys. Look at this thread, there are 14 years olds paraphrasing Sony slogans....that's just insane.

I didn't even mention PC by the way, nor was I implying anything out it's higher res, it is a fact that the claims of a 60 frame 1080p standard would be on PS3 were made by Sony, which is why I say again...that this new claim is nothing but B.S. But you still have parrots repeating it...

jack_burt0n5810d ago

@dchalfont

Damn ur an insult 2 the avatar, this article is actually a valid point do a little research on the technology they are referring to. Dr marks has got the accuracy nailed he deserves a shite load of praise.

bjornbear5810d ago

it isn't going to motivate me to go buy move xD its just interesting info.

im sure its not AS good as the surgery tech used obviously, but it doesn't mean what these "doctors" have stated is bad

sure its PR, but far more entertaining and valid than "We think our peripheral is better because...it is"

jneul5809d ago

lol 1080p gaming - wipeout hd
60fps gaming - god of war collection
people will get a second job for ps3 - that is a statement from 2007 you idiot
b.c - most of us was not bothered when they removed it it was just the ungrateful's who demanded for a price cut, so sony had to remove b.c out of the ps3 as they are not a charity believe it or not, they actually wanted to reduce their losses on ps3 but keep customers happy as well, ps3 only just started making a profit, so sony being generous for the past 3 years is good in my opinion

andy8557d ago

Lets be honest raising prices doesn't do that when no one's buying it. I imagine the profit it greater selling 10 times more at a lower price

Whatever you say buddy, let's all wear the tinfoil hats.

IceKoldKilla56d ago (Edited 56d ago )

LMFAO Your comment alone says a lot more about you than anything else. When has one game not selling 10 million copies made a company raise the prices of their console? Then Xbox would be costing $5000 by now lol. You remind of the crazy drug addicts on the street rambling on about conspiracies. xD You sure you don't need a hug, buddy?

ChunkyMonk56d ago

One game that Sony payed $200 million for. lol
Also, you sure were quick to get triggered. Maybe your the one who needs a hug?

Athlon10157d ago (Edited 57d ago )

The price increases are due to the RAM demand associated with AI and the US-Iran war. You can look to any business news website and local news to see that. Heck, even the 2026 Asus Zenbook Duo I've been eyeing has faced delays and has had a price increase of $400; that laptop has two specs. Asus is doing a staggered release with per-orders for the lower spec now and shipping in May and pre-orders for the higher spec that I'm eyeing starting in June. Basically, all computer manufactures are affected. It'll most likely start affecting smart phones too if it hasn't already. I can't remember the last time any major console maker (Nintendo, Sony, Sega, etc) increased the price of their console mid cycle outside of Microsoft just to make more profit.

S2Killinit56d ago

Its not the war. Its the RAM issue.

jznrpg56d ago

War is causing gas prices to rise. Transport of everything requires gas so the prices of those items go up as well. So it does have an impact

Athlon10156d ago (Edited 56d ago )

The blockage of the Straight of Hormuz due to the US-Iran war has affected raw components used in semi-conductor manufacturing such as bromine, aluminum, and helium. Iran had attacked the liquified natural gas (LNG) plant in Qatar which is a large producer (1/3 globally) of helium which is used in semiconductor etching. So it's the both the war and the RAM crises.

badz14956d ago

Oh no...should I get the Pro now before the price increase?

I dont think that'll ever happen. But i must say back in the day, they were definitely trying because they were more cash rich than their competitors.

CosmicTurtle69d ago

I think MS were and still are the richer company. They tried to acquire Sega back in the day (and considered doing so again more recently), they obviously bought exclusivity to Halo which was originally shown as a Mac title. I don’t think as a company MS can claim the moral high ground here. It’s a wilful lack of self awareness.

Of course Sony would try exactly the same if they had the resources, but when the PS2 dominated the industry was in a much healthier place with an abundance of great third parties.

This has been a depressing generation as far as first party decisions are concerned. The fact we are debating business plans rather than which game is better is a sad reflection of the state of things.

Darkseeker70d ago (Edited 70d ago )

There was Nintendo as well, Sony wouldn't have had a monopoly. In fact, the world would be better today if Xbox never existed in the first place. They pretty much brought all bad practices we have today. We might have gotten all of it either way, but not this early. In term of franchises, I don't think there is anything Microsoft released that would actually be missed if it didn't exist. Even Halo the world wouldn't notice if Halo didn't exist.

S2Killinit69d ago

MS was definitely a bad influence on gaming.

raWfodog70d ago

I think almost everyone will agree that a monopoly is not good for the industry. But that being said, the competition needs to be smart and strategic with their business. Simply buying up publishers and traditional third-party studios just to keep them out of the other companies reach is not a sustainable practice. That goes for all parties so don't think I'm just referring to Xbox.

I'm no business guru by any stretch of the imagination but I firmly believe that the best way to drive consumers to your software and hardware is to invest smart in your first-party studios. Give them full support and guidance in making unique, fun games that are only available to play in your ecosystem and the gamers will come.

Reaper22_70d ago (Edited 70d ago )

But first party studios aren't enough. They only make up a small portion of the industry. Without 3rd party there would be no industry for Microsoft or sony.Developing games take time and money and sometimes you gotta make moves to stay competitive.

raWfodog70d ago

Nah, I never said first-party was enough. I said it’s the ‘best way’ to drive gamers to your platform. 3rd-party is a free-for-all and there’s no guarantee that gamers will use your hardware to play the game. If you want to push your own software and/or hardware you need first-party, or at least exclusive deals with third-party studios.

SimpleDad70d ago

They Shure did a great job... 25 years later Xbox is dead.

Reaper22_70d ago

Then why be so emotional and continue to talk about it. Xbox will never die be ause it stays in so many people's head.

lodossrage70d ago

How can you even see him being "emotional" in that comment?

If anything, you're the emotional one, constantly trying to go at anyone that says anything against Microsoft. So when you call him emotional, it comes off as deflection

Elda69d ago

I own an XBSX & I can say it's becoming irrelevant out of the 3 current consoles.
