Replace Xbox with PS3, Kinect with Move, and MS with Sony and you have the same situation. Don't be ignorant and just think that only 360 fanboys complain about "retarded" articles.

Perjoss5829d ago (Edited 5829d ago )

everyone is a Patcher these days, why don't we just wait and see.

Aquanox5829d ago

I'll love to see what this guy says in November =)

sikbeta5829d ago

@above

Hmmm... GT5 comes in November and PS3 sales will skyrocket, that's what this guy is going to say...

O-T

We keep talking about sales when we don't see anything more than 4 flawed mini-games that were shown, instead of talk about sales, why not talking about how it works....

The preorders are through the roof. There is no telling if they will be sustained, but to say that it won't be a boost is kinda ignorant.

Kinect still sucks for me but its still selling as of now.

Edit: Sorry should have been clearer. Kinect Bundles and standalone preorders are through the roof.

@vulcan
I think it will be the opposite. Kinect wil not sell to standalone for $150, which I think is kinda expensive, but if you get Kinect a game and the new slim for $300, I see that as a pretty damn good deal.

ProjectVulcan5829d ago (Edited 5829d ago )

Preorders for what? Kinect as a standalone, or huge amounts of bundles? Standalone pre orders are for people who ALREADY own a 360. Indeed, its not the bundles being reported that top the charts in the uk, its the standalone kinect.....

I have considered this for sometime now. Kinect may sell itself to existing 360 owners but i think its a hard sell with the cost of the bundle being 250 pounds. Unfortunately microsoft are hoping it WILL boost 360 hardware sales to casual consumers WITHOUT a 360. That means bundles.

stuna15829d ago (Edited 5829d ago )

People can pre-order things until they turn blue in the face, I just don't see it as a true representation of actual sales, because a lot of things can change in the timespan of now and when then the product is actually released. I for one as a consumer have pre-ordered products and, later on return and put it on something else or even outright canceled it altogether many times because I have experienced money problems. There are many cases off people not claiming their pre-orders. Besides it wouldn't surprise me in the least bit to find out that microsoft has found a was to manipulate the pre-order counts at select retailer be it by phantom customers or thim themselves placing the pre-orders internally. One thing I've learned about microsoft in my 40 years is they are willing to do anything to win! That is why they're documented cases of the supreme courts have had to keep them on a short lease.

Anon19745829d ago

I'd love to see numbers on Kinect pre-orders. All I've seen is a meaningless Amazon chart, where Kinect briefly hit the top and has since fallen back down. With no data behind it what does it even mean? Are there 100 pre-orders? 1000? 10,000? Who knows?

Don McCabe is actually making sense, which is rare with all the Kinect hype we've seen. "The pricing is immature to a certain degree. Consumers see it as just a catch-up with the Wii, but they don’t see it as much of an improvement."

He's exactly right. Casuals aren't going to dish out $150 (almost $200 in the UK) to play games that are already on the Wii. There's just no way, and Kinect doesn't have anything as appealing as Mario for the family. And Core gamers aren't going to touch this. River Raft adventures will hold the average core gamers attention for exactly 67 seconds before they go back to playing Call of Duty.

I agree with McCabe. I just don't think the estimates of 3 million Kinect units during the holidays is realistic. I really don't know who Microsoft thinks are going to snatch this up. If they had come out with Kinect first, they might have something. But motion control is 4 years old now, and still cheaper on the Wii. Microsoft is simply too late to this party, but they sure have a helluva lot riding on it.

A kinect bundle commes at 299 dollar (arcade 4gb console+ kinect+controller+cinect game) considering nintendo launched the wii at 250 dollar the pricing is very reasonable if you buy the bundle.

Having that said it seems that, initially, kinect is aimed at expanding the xbox 360 market into the casual market or the wii market. The games shown at e3 pretty much confirm this point.

Of course it will boost the sales of the xbox360 but the question is how much how long and if they will be able to copy the huge succes/sales of nintendo.

Inside_out5829d ago (Edited 5829d ago )

Oh yeah, M$ who...lol. M$ will sell every Kinect they make this holiday. Talk about contradictions...Kinect won't sell, casual market is in decline...WTF. Then he says " if " it sells well initially, well...um... then everyone will trade it in, lol, is this guy for real??? It's lose/lose for M$ with this clown. Love how all the PS3 kids are jumping up and down. Lets revisit this topic in December.

BTW...they said the exact same thing about the Wii...What casuals?...lol

EVILDEAD3605829d ago

Maybe his store that he manages in UK won't sell any Kinect..but the rest of the WORLD will..

How many Kinects will his store sell in November..like a dozen?

The Kinect bundle is going to sell out in November..

This guy is just repeating the babble repeated ad nauseum on the internet

He saying that it will fail because it didnt come out 2 years ago? silly

Motion control sales are declining? LMAO..theres only one out..it's the Wii..and in it's decline it's wiping the floor with both the 360 and the PS3

None of this equals the 360 won't boost sales..look we get it..there are people who need to promote Move and have spent the last 8 months trying to smear Kinect..won't matter..watch what happens when in drops..

Micrsoft releasing it only 50 dollars more than Move is not going to hurt sales at all..

It's going to be fun to watch these dudes eat there words when it drops

I disagree...That's what everyone said about the Wii. Yes it won't appeal to hardcore gamers but casual gamers would pounce on it

Shubhankar5829d ago

Microsoft are bringing casuals stuff in too late into the generation. Of course, MS can rebrand themselves within a year, with heavy advertising and stuff, but it's a hell of a risk. I don't think MS will wanna do that.

fortehhordes5829d ago

I don't think they need to rebrand themselves, just make the Kinect brand known to people. With the Macys events, etc. They seem to be positioning themselves in places Wii buyers will see it.

Considering they current sale of $90 at Toys R Us, I already jumped on it, even though I previously said I was going to wait.

StillGray5829d ago

As much as I like the 360, I'm gonna give the Kinect an Ebert thumbs down.

cobraagent5829d ago (Edited 5829d ago )

wait and see? It is too early to comment on Kinect's success or failure

0oAngeluso05829d ago (Edited 5829d ago )

The Kinect/360s Arcade bundle are the hottest thing going.
It'd be foolish to make a statement like that. People are going to want to try it out and at $299 for an HD console with the full library of the 360 AND Kinect with a game is a great deal. I think some of the people here need to stop wishing that it fails, I mean it's already selling. Not just in the states either, but eveerywhere.

Microsoft marketed the product right, I pre ordered a bundle for my little brother for Christmas and it might not be the only bundle I pre order. It's hard to get great deals like that for not a huge price.

So don't be shocked, when the rest of the world doesn't go by what Sony fanboys on N4G think "Should happen"

To each their own.

stuna15829d ago

It's really sad that people don't see the trend here! If any company could rule the world, it would be microsoft vying for that kind of power. Look at what microsoft has made as a reality for gaming today. Games for example now $60 plus tax, microsoft made that a reality, pay to play online for a game you already bought, now look at the game maker who are to follow suit!Microsoft made it a reality, Accessories that cost you a liver, two kidneys and the frontal lobe of your brain, yes microsoft made it all possible, what about social networking microsoft is giving you the added bonus of making your pockets even lighter by making you pay for it only on the xbox360. Don't get me started on DLC for real why do we pay? Directly or indirectly yes once again microsoft, be it disc format or, not wanting to foot the bill on adding another disc for games on their own console. I wish someone would pay me too! The worst part of all this is it's just the tip of the iceburg 10% showing 90% hidden. Now kinects falls right in the middle of everything, and microsoft is acting like they are doing everyone a favor by allowing us to be in its glorious presence! And you know what people are falling for it. There's an old saying "You can lead a horse to water, but you can't make him drink!" Now the question is are you going to be the one to drink the koolaid that is kinects?

bobdog6265829d ago

Let those Guys say what they want b/c it will not matter .Sony Lost this Gen long time ago.Kinect will sale like HotCakes come this Nov.Microsoft has the Hardcore wraped up and Kinect will do the Rest. With Halo on its way and Kinect its a Done Deal for Sony

Xbox boss: Memory crisis could impact next-gen hardware pricing

Xbox boss Asha Sharma has discussed how component shortages will impact the company's plans for Project Helix.

When does this end? Its killing everyone. Consoles and PC. And for what? AI? The benefits of AI are completely outweighed by the negatives. And the government should have never allowed one company to buy up all the RAM.

Lexreborn270d ago

This kind of proves this is an after thought product, most products like this are in r&d 5 years before they start mass producing. So they typically have the cost of components and things worked out long before assembly starts.

This is an assumption still, but I wouldn’t be surprised if project helix is similar to Scalebound, perfect dark and sod3. They had an idea but no actual execution other than concept stage. Being impacted by the ram shortage likely would also put this device 3-4 years out.

I’m not even sure MS has that endurance with Xbox yet

Fishy Fingers70d ago (Edited 70d ago )

I mean.... what?

We're at a point that Samsung wont even provide their own phone department ram because they can sell it at higher prices to 3rd parties (AI). Its more profitable to sell the ram than make their own devices with it.

You think because R&D starts 5 years ago the 3rd party component manufacturers will honour that price? They'll sell it to whomever is paying the most today, not some gentlemens agreement they made years ago. AI farms will buy more volume at higher prices than any console manufacturer will. It'll be the same for Playstation.

Lexreborn270d ago

Contractual agreements are not the same as “gentlemen” agreements. If you think that they work with their distributors a month before production then their entire business model is trash. They work with companies like nvidia constantly for building the graphics cards they need. They work with companies that build motherboards years in advance. This is what proper business planning does.

They are not buying components on a whim like a consumer. So again, considering the ram isn’t a singular module and is integrated into the motherboard I highly doubt they wouldn’t have a final schematic that they are supposed to be building around.

If they are delaying production another 3 years then it’s obvious again this is an after though project and is just trying to be responsive to their bad execution they had the last 14 years.

It also isn’t far fetched to use their failure to produce first party titles the last 7 years including the highly anticipated games I mentioned all being cancelled. That they would continue to you know… lie

Sitdown70d ago

You don't really know how this works huh?

Profchaos70d ago (Edited 70d ago )

Helix is going to be stupidly expensive

Instead of leaning into smarter upscaling techniques they're brute forcing hardware that will cost them dearly and it remains to be seen if it's genuinely going to provide a meaningful differential

I know in the oc.doace people like to brag about not using frame gen or dlss to get to high on a game but for the majority of players they happily use those technologies without a second thought

That's going to be ps6 vs Helix

Eonjay70d ago

Yeah with FSR 5 they should be able to offer a much cheaper version of Helix.

Eonjay70d ago

While this does seem to be the case, I am encouraged by the statement from Microsoft about wanting to provide affordable options. If this means a Series S style Helix, at least there will be something affordable being offered.

XBManiac69d ago

Series S is what has killed Xbox Series so... Will they dare?

blacktiger70d ago

It's called systematic inflationary. Yes we get it Microsoft, keep raising in the name ofall kinds of stuffs

pwnmaster300070d ago

Honestly if there was thing I learned from this generation is that new consoles arnt day one anymore.
I can wait 1-3 years.

DarXyde70d ago

Another important lesson from this generation: while Nintendo showed us that prices don't necessarily need to ever drop, we've now learned that waiting 1-3 years does carry some risk that prices increase. This generation is just bizarre in all the wrong ways.

LucasRuinedChildhood70d ago (Edited 70d ago )

The factors are largely external. Covid and Russia-Ukraine war causing inflation led to the first price increase in 2022.

Then we get Trump's tariffs increasing hardware prices, AI boom causing a RAM crisis, war on Iran causing a worldwide fuel crisis which impacts the cost of everything.

Gaming doesn't exist in a vacuum. The last few years have been a shitshow and lot of it was definitely avoidable.

DarXyde70d ago

LucasRuinedChildhood,

For sure. No disagreement on the external factors doing a lot of this. Where I have to gently push back however is on two fronts:

1. The pandemic definitely caused some issues: asynchronous development was a big issue and really complicated timelines and affected game quality. At the same time, when it comes to price hikes, it's really difficult to know what was genuine necessity and what was taking consumers for a ride. The pandemic brought about "stag-flation" which was increasing prices and stagnant wages, which was a problem caused by supply chain constraints. There was also "Greed-flation", where companies that were slightly affected or had no issues took advantage of the situation and squeezed everyone citing supply chain issues when there were none.

2. It's definitely true that the tariffs, AI boom, and RAM crisis were all things enabled by tech broligarchs throwing money at this caricature of a world leader, one of them being Satya Nadella. I don't think Sony and Nintendo have contributed much to this problem if at all, but Microsoft's Nadella I feel was instrumental in causing every one of those issues. Microsoft as a company contributed to both candidates (though they gave Harris 4x as much if I recall), but Nadella was all in on letting AI run wild. He paid for unregulated AI, and got a war that's not a war (even though Trump called it that at least five times on television) that screwed up helium access. So for me, I feel that one of the players in the gaming industry is a key architect of these issues, and for that reason I struggle a bit to think of it as "external".

Underrated comment. I used to hate that game so much that any time my siblings asked me to play it, I just picked Hom and shut myself down mid-match.
