BMC Writes: About half-way through reading Extra Lives: Why Video Games Matter, I realized that I wanted to know more about the book's author, Tom Bissell. As I read more of the book, and learned more about Bissell, I became more and more impressed. He shattered the stereotypical view I had that anyone who would take the time to write 240 pages on videogames wouldn't have the literary skill to hold my attention for 240 pages.
Bissell had my attention for 240 pages and then some. I asked Tom (that's right, we're on a first name basis now!) if he wouldn't mind being interviewed for BMC and he graciously obliged. We talked about multiplayer games, Heavy Rain, and silly foreign men who can't tie their own tie.
It's important in life to maintain a broad palette when it comes to culture and the arts. Hideo Kojima agrees, as he continues to use video games like Death Stranding to introduce people to music and other elements they might not otherwise discover.
