PS Move Impossible To Competitively Price Against Microsoft Kinect

A.B. Frasier at TheKoalition.com writes: A.B. Frasier, Edward V, and Gary Swaby give their reaction to the Micorosft Xbox 360 Kinect new price. We give opinions on Michael Pachter and Aaron Greenberg statements and even make some predictions of our own. The price of the Kinect reveals a lot about why we shouldn’t compare it to the Playstation Move. A few questions still remain in the air about Kinect though. Like Edward V. says, “can you even sit down and play?” (ha!) List yours if you have any.

Wait. Impossible to competitively price against Kinect? Kinect is $150. A Move+Camera bundle and one extra controller will be $150. Durrrrr. Math.

Bnet3435801d ago

Wouldn't two sets of Move controllers be $160?

trounbyfire5801d ago (Edited 5801d ago )

move bundle includes : MOVE, PS eye, game all for $100

Move controller alone is $50 and you don't need the nav

i am trying to inform people and yeah $50 is the price of kinect games

Bnet3435801d ago

How would you play that fighting game they showed and Sorcery then? You need the Nav + regular controller.

zeeshan5801d ago

@above: You don't need the sub-controller. You can easily play it using SixAxix DS3 controller in one hand and Move in the other :)

Oh and the dude who wrote this article is a pure... DUMBASS!!!!

PS360_375800d ago

Call me ignorant, but you rally have to hold the DS3 in your one hand? Umm

morganfell5800d ago (Edited 5800d ago )

Some people obviously err into the weeds with the idea that everyone that gets a motion controller has to have two.

Where were all of these people making the "you need two of each when the Wii was flying off the shelf?

Lack of two controllers. Now we know why the Wii didn't sell.

If that is the only defense in the argument - you need two of them - then any defense of that point of view instantly fails and drags Kinect down with it.

PS360_375800d ago

So you don't have to have two, but as an honest question:

What will those hardcore games be like without either two move wands or the move wand and navigation?

I cannot speak with any knowledge about it, because I have not tried it, but how realistic is it to hold the DS3 the whole time you are playing a game. It doesn't seem practical, but like I said I haven't tried.

bjornbear5800d ago (Edited 5800d ago )

if a friend wants to play MP he brings his over

the same logic can be applied to Move

think about it....just stop and think about it

@ PS360 - if you use a sixaxis its lighter = easy, just tried it its 100% doable.

NecrumSlavery5800d ago

In terms of actual pricing, I prepose a theory. The camera and two moves two Navs cost about 160 round a out, but the navigation controllers shouldn't even be figured on this, cause Kinect doesn't have the ability to move, so the ability to move around(not on rails), is a bonus.

SonyPS3605800d ago

The short answer is if you want everything you need for Move is that yes, it is more expensive.

Ju5800d ago (Edited 5800d ago )

"How would you play that fighting game they showed and Sorcery"

Why ask ? Does Kinect have a game like that ?

That's like asking, you need something for a game you have to buy in the first place; which BTW the competition does (and cannot) offer at all.

--Edit:

"What will those hardcore games be like without either two move wands or the move wand and navigation?"

Read above. Yep, still applies... I still don't know what that "additional" controller costs for the hardcore games using Kinect. /s

IdleLeeSiuLung5800d ago (Edited 5800d ago )

Grab a DS3 controller hold it with one hand and imagine if it would feel comfortable after an hour.... I highly doubt it would be comfortable holding something like that with one hand not to mention long term strain.

If you want PS Move, I suspect the vast majority will end up buying the Navigator. Repetitive strain injuries are not fun, definitely not worth $30.

I think the confusion with PS Move already started, heck it isn't even clear to me what is really required to enjoy PS Move. Two wands, one wand, navigator and/or DS3? It might be early, but Sony needs to step it up and create some kind of standard identification system that denotes what it needs.

They also need to create a package specifically for people that already have the camera. I want the game bundled in, but don't want to pay all over again for a second camera...

RTS would this should be pretty cool.

Ult iMate5800d ago (Edited 5800d ago )

>>Grab a DS3 controller hold it with one hand and imagine if it would feel comfortable after an hour...

Now imaging STANDING in front of Kinect for an hour and feel comfortable.
Holding a Dualshock or a Sixaxis is alternative to pay $30 for a Nav. If you do not yet have spare $30, then you hold a controller instead of Nav. When you scratch up those unimaginable $30 for Nav, you go and buy Nav. It's that simple.

@ Kigmal
>>Wouldn't two sets of Move controllers be $160?

Do you have two controllers for your console? Was it so hard to get money for the second one? Move is for core games, so you need only one pair: one Move and one Nav just for yourself. If you want casual party crap to entertain a drunk croud, then why still didn't you get a Wii?

And why only two Move controllers? There will be 32 (I hope) players in SOCOM, so why don't you say "you need 32 Move controllers"? Because I only need one to play SOCOM online with 32 players and not 32 of them.

You are forgeting one thing. Move actually works. That is pretty important.

Inside_out5800d ago (Edited 5800d ago )

What are all you PS3 kids getting all excited about. M$ wins...case closed.

Kinect bundle with the 4gb 360 ( $199 ) will cost $299. PS3 bundle with Move ( 1 controller ) costs $399. Add a second controller ( $499 ) and a game YOU WANT to play and it's $600...Who wants to ADD 3D at this point with the $150 glasses and $3000 Sony 3D TV...Sony EPIC fail.

Nintendo Wii costs $210 with one controller. Add a second controller and it costs $285. I think M$ will hit pay dirt this holiday season while still being profitable. Sony will have to dip into the red again to be relevant. M$ should of made the bundle $250 and really drive the stake in but they are greedy monsters and want to make as much as possible. M$ will over take the Wii...yep...the Wii doesn't even play DvDs...lol. Expect to here about the new HD Wii very soon.

ME...I'm buying BOTH. But from a marketing standpoint...M$ is the winner unless Sony gets off their A$$ and starts explaining how they are gonna sell 3 different items...a camera, and 2 controllers that add up to 1...EXACTLY. Where the heck is Sony...don't they care. I haven't heard a word out of these guys since E3.

PS3 MOVE bundle includes 120gb hard drive & Blu-ray.

Makes 4Gb Kinect bundle seriously lacking value.

And the point is MOVE works, Kinect is just crap.

36T5800d ago (Edited 5800d ago )

Very good post Cez. Nycredude obviously hates hearing the truth. Why so aggressive Nycredude? Resorting to personnel attacks now? ;)

The casuals will buy a Wii before even considering spending all that money on a PS3 bundle. I believe it'll sell well for current owners of the PS3 though. Time will tell.

@ DJMarty

"MOVE works, Kinect is just crap"

Have you had hands on with Kinect or Move? I say that because i believe you're basing your assumption of Kinect being crap due to all the haters on this site, including yourself. Sit back, relax and in the near future you will find out for yourself which is the more popular of the two. I predict you'll be in a very bad mood.

lochdoun5800d ago

Cez hit the nail right on the head. :]
Great post!

Shadowstar5800d ago (Edited 5800d ago )

"Kinect bundle with the 4gb 360 ( $199 ) will cost $299. PS3 bundle with Move ... and a game YOU WANT to play and it's $600..."

Haha, that's so true. No cost for games YOU WANT to play with Kinect, since there aren't any.

(Hey, he said it first.)

Ju5800d ago

Kinect Bundle and a HDD: $349 (or something).

+a game you actually want to play: priceless (which would that be ?)

Also, pulling numbers out of a.. lately ? A second controller now is $499 all of a sudden ? A game another $100 ? You just make random sh!t up. Nice try. (Controller $49, Game $39, unlike "hardcore" Kinect games for 60)

IdleLeeSiuLung5800d ago

You can argue about price all you want and shift the numbers back and forth, but the fact is to enjoy almost everything on the 360 for TWO players, all you need is buy their $300 bundle.

If you went with Wii, sure the ticket is $200, but casuals want to play togheter so the total is more lik $300, because of the extra nunchuck, wii mote and motion plus.

PS3 you already start at $300 and then you add 2x wands, at least one navigator or DS3, camera... your ticket quickly adds up as follows:

$300 PS3
$100 PS Move Bundle incl. camera, 1x wand and a game
$ 50 1x Wand
$ 30 1x Navigator or DS3
-----
$480

If one has to argue, I think the Xbox 360 Arcade alone offers a lot more value than the Wii... but then again Wii didn't win because of value. It had something unique... Let's see if Kinect has that magic this holiday?

Shadowstar5800d ago

IdleLeeSiuLung:

Slight correction: if you were getting a PS3 new, you would get the bundle. Granted, it's still more expensive than the new gimped 360, but...

$400 PS3, DS, camera, 1x wand and a game
$ 50 1x Wand
-----------
$450

IdleLeeSiuLung5799d ago

Nope.... I already accounted for that.

You will need a total of 2x wands and 2x DS3/navigator. I assumed you already used the DS3 included in the PS3 and so only added another $30 to total for $480.

The whole thing then adds 2x wands, 1x DS3 (included with the PS3) and then 1x navigator.

Shadowstar5798d ago

Really? "...at least one navigator or DS3..." But anyways. Does anybody know: Are there any two player games that use the DS3/Navigational controller?

I mean, SOCOM, sure, but that's generally a one-player game with multiplayer being done by online. Sorcery also looks like a one-player game...

Oh. Dang, stupid bubble system. You can't respond directly... Well, hopefully at some point someone else will see this and respond.

I dont understand this, most people dont play with others. Plus they are not really aimed at the same people.

read the title right or am I missing something?

bjornbear5800d ago

too.

wtv...the article is no better than the title itself.

I am sorry but this is a joke 4 gigs will not hold music on my PS3. I am spreading the word that Move and kinect are the same price. Well Move is cheaper if you don’t want to play with anyone else. Move bundle + another Move = $150You don’t have to buy the NAV its an option just like the second move controller but its safe to have one just in case a friend wants to play. You can use the DS3 or SIXAXIS which you will already have because you brought a PS3. If you have many friends over two Move controllers will be enough and not one game uses two NAV.Now Kinect is two at a time so naturally you would have to take turns or buy another 360 & Kinect and connect them together somehow. So why can’t people do the same with Move. Same price and same functionality when more than two people.

MorganX5800d ago

Don't really care about Move vs. Kinect, but:

>>I am sorry but this is a joke 4 gigs will not hold music on my PS3.<<

My entire music collection is 17G. But I only listen to about 1G. Most people don't have collections that large, all of mine are at high bit rate and many 7-10mins long (club mixes).

I also think that being able to add 2 cheap 16G USB storage media nullifies this point, whatever the point was.

Back to Kinect vs. Move, Holding the SIXAXIS in one hand is an epic fail.

Kinect nor Move will have major impact IMO.

PlayStation Move Controller Used to Perform Surgery on a Pig That Was 5,780 Miles Away

A group of surgeons made headlines after they managed to perform an endoscopic procedure on a pig located in Hong Kong by using PlayStation controllers. It involved the use of a PS5 DualSense controller as well as a PlayStation Move controller.

jznrpg601d ago

There is at least a few good jokes that could come from that title

Cacabunga600d ago

Yet another powerful device Sony gave up supporting. KZ3 move was one of the best motion controller implementation ever

just_looken600d ago

Right the ps move was awesome i have the gun thing from killzone still.

Relientk77601d ago

That's really cool. It's crazy something like that is possible with gaming controllers 1000's of miles away.

Lexreborn2600d ago

Guess that submarine should’ve used move controllers instead of logitech
