Infinity Ward: "We're Not Charging For Multiplayer"

Rumors tend to spread in dull times, like, say, the weeks between E3 and Comic-Con. Hence the recent spate of fear-mongering that Infinity Ward plans to charge subscription fees for Call of Duty's multiplayer.

Infinity Ward's Robert Bowling put the kibosh on the rumors with this tweet:

"Modern Warfare 2 subscription plan rumors going around. For the record, nobody has to pay to play COD or MW2 multiplayer, nor will they."

NYPunkster5776d ago (Edited 5776d ago )

Dude what's with the animosity toward COD? It's a fuukin' video game. Relax. This mob mentality is ridiculously retarded. It's a good FPS that's fun to play so why not enjoy it while it's still around.

@OT

I'll reinstate my pre-order now.

badz1495776d ago

if it's IW, then although they don't charge, Kotick will! the person in-charge is Kotick, not AW!

This pisses me off.. I submitted a story that has physical evidence that they are planning on charging for modern warfare 2 but inifinity ward dismissed it as a glitch on xbox live and I had 4 reports withing 10 minutes.. I'm sick of the people that approve stories on this site.. Trash gets through but stuff we need to know about gets reported.. F*ck off.

Cry me a river.

It happens to me all the time. You see me whining? no

Akagi5776d ago

I feel your pain, bro. N4G is going downhill.

skip2mylou5776d ago

baseballkid ummm u aint complaining because you havent submitted a story in a while

moparful995771d ago

Thanks for the support guys. I have trouble submitting stories because by the time I submit someone else beat me to the punch.. I finally have a chance to submit something "useful" and relevant and I get reported and my article fails.. I've been in the trainee status for 2 years because of that.. I've had 1 article pass and it whent wholly unnoticed.. I just dont now what to do, legit journalism fails...

Of course no one has to or will have to pay to play MW2 online! Now, MW the MMO...

evilmonkey5015776d ago

Of course we don't have to pay ,YET. Those games are already out. There isn't enough time for them to implement a fee based system before BlackOps comes out. However, in the near future, maybe exactly on Nov 8, 2011 when the "next" cod comes out...

BeaArthur5776d ago

Well they more or less mean they are not going to charge for MW2 but future CoD games probably will.

Spenok5775d ago

Well then people will be playing MW2 or MW for the rest of there CoD fix. If they impliment this then as just about everyone says; "I'm done."

theonlylolking5776d ago

You are not but Activision will be.

UnSelf5776d ago

You are not but Activision will be.

mrcash5776d ago

as soon as they do that, the franchise will die.... Which is sad, but will be a deserved death and will teach a lesson to activision.

TheBalloMan5776d ago

I guess the article means that if so, they would like to avoid Activision's decision, as it will clearly drive off a lot of fans 0.o

TrevorPhillips5776d ago

Activision obviously will

Because they're greedy for money!

That day when Activision fired Jason and Vince

“Jason and Vince just got fired!” A lead artist shouted, as he rode in on one of the many small kick-push scooters that would typically lay around the studio. He quickly scooted away to some other part of the office space to spread that shocking message.

Activision would say that to all their victims. Here’s money now get over it.

RhinoGamer88826d ago

A friend worked there in production and was miserable due to working with IW and with ATVI. When he complained to his VP about it, he was told...be glad you have a job and are making games.

mastershredder826d ago

Sounds about right, but is also sounds like something Infinity Ward would say. They made their own bed and cashed in hard to do it. F em.

franwex826d ago

That sucks, but that’s corporate America. I mean, they could’ve turned down the money and leave to Respawn too. At least they got something, my corporation would’ve probably expected everyone to go back to normal.

Another dev team for call of duty, like there isn't enough currently........ yayyyy

Well this atleast partly confirms yearly releases are definitely remaining, doubling down if anything.

Rynxie904d ago

That's what we need, two call of duties every year. I'm calling it.

Brazz904d ago

Hopefully, with more studios they can make better COD, 4h campaings are unacceptable.
