IGN's dedicated PlayStation Team tackles the most popular question in next-gen gaming.

Square Enix launches Final Fantasy X 25th anniversary site, revealing new Nomura art, books, music releases, and merchandise.
Look I know VIII has its issues and all that but how on earth can the do big anniversary events with new artwork and merchandise for VII, IX and X yet VIII got sweet f*** all.
They could have given it something during its 25th anniversary yet all it got was a single Happy Anniversary post on their social media.

A brutal reset, a smarter story, and a return to what made it great—Mortal Kombat (2011) revived the series.
15 years went by so fast. I remember playing through the story mode at launch.

Why did Sony push Shuhei Yoshida out of his role leading PlayStation's first-party games? He'd overseen some huge successes. Well, apparently, he didn't listen.
Yeah I can see that for sure. Shuhei Yoshida should have been in charge not Jim Ryan.
More confirmation that Jim Ryan is the culprit for what has happened to Sony. Hulst needs to go too. What sucks is that a lot of the good top heads at Sony are no longer there. I wish that guys that were forced out prematurely by Dumbo Jimbo like Shuhei and Layden came back.
Makes you wonder if MS even thought about hiring him after Phil and Sarah were leaving. He certainly couldn't make their situation any worse.
All the gamer/consumer lead heads are gone across PS and Xbox. shuhei gone phil's gone (questionable) but gone. The future of gaming is somewhat uncertain across the board.
That's a good, well thought out read. For the PS3, I think the difference will come down to the quality of the games. If people look at the Wii or 360 games and determine the PS3 games aren't significantly better looking, they won't pay the higher price....unless they were going to buy a blu-ray player already.
The 3DO and Jaguar had better graphical advantage over the Sega genesis and the Super Nintendo. That alone justified the cost. Sony has nothing to justify the cost of the PS3 but the blue ray player, which is not needed at all. Sony fans are in a bind right now. I know the feeling because I was one of the Sega losers from the 90’s. I think gamers should stop being so brand loyal its useless. IF one day the 360 or the Xbox were to say attempt to rip me off or go out of business I would move on to the next thing smoking just like I did with the Sega 32x and Sega CD Sony PS1 was waiting for me. This is better for gamers today because you can move on to the 360 it is an awesome alternative. Some people are losing touch with gaming the point is to enjoy yourself not enjoy a brand name.
The 32x and Saga CD together were $600.00 and the genesis was $300.00. that was $900.00 I talked my parents into that first $600.00 and I mowed lawns and worked at the local food lion. At the beginning it was fun until the games stopped. I just would hate for this to happen to some Sony fool because I used to be a Sega fool myself. I know Sony is a lot bigger than Sega but the point is be smart.
They hash up all the usual complaints about the PS3 such as the price, the launch titles, and most of all, the price.
will you feel compelled to spend $600 for the PS3’s exclusive titles or about half that for the Wii’s entirely unique experience? I’ll of course buy all three, but it’s unlikely that “Middle America” will do the same.
They seem to have forgotten what may be the biggest contender for that market this holiday: the PS2. At $129 in the U.S., it is far cheaper than all the new consoles, even the Wii, it has a great library of cheap, recent, high quality, exclusive titles, and has a surprisingly strong list of upcoming titles. This holiday season, PS2 has four 100% exclusive titles that look absolutely amazing: Okami, Yakuza, Bully (the Xbox version was recently cancelled according to spong), and Guitar Hero 2. God of War 2 is also coming shortly afterwards in early 2007. None of the other consoles have that strong of an upcoming lineup of exclusives.
IGN also apparently misses that the announced prices are just launch prices aimed at the high end consumers when there is a huge initial pent up demand. Only afterwards, will they focus on the more casual “Middle America” (or Europe or Asia) market with lower pricing. They also omit that there is a fully capable $500 PS3 model which is the most closely spec’d to the $400 360 and that the 360 requires you to spend extra for a lot of functionality that people want which is already included in the base PS3 price such as online play and HD movie functionality.
If Sony can deliver on what they’ve announced, I think Sony will take the cake this holiday season and this console cycle.
Now what we really be interesting is if some guys from this site, ps3blog, got in on such a roundtable. Rather than listening to the IGN choir regurgitate the same tired doom and gloom over and over amongst themselves and then reading our standard rebuttals separately over here at ps3blog, why not mix the two camps together? Now THAT would be entertainment.
What do you guys think?
