I guess the best question would be: how we can rate a product thats gonna give stuff for 1 year when its only been 1 month??? add also the fact that if you decide to wait after the year has passed to get it, you are not gonna be able to get the stuff from past months... its not really smart to try to judge things like that. Its more a mather of faith, you pay now and hope you get the good stuff or you wait and when you see its worthy, you can no longer get it....

of the offered content is stuff i already own. Will it be more enticing for me in the future? maybe. Nice to have options. Service will add to my gaming experience in a good way but wont be any detrimental to my current gaming experience. Win/Win

I have to kindly disagree with the bloggers opinion. While I don't have Playstation Plus, there is some value to it.

1. Yes, you're renting 12 full games for one month to 12 months if you don't get the subscription for longer than a year. GameFly charges you 16/month for one game a month. I understand that you aren't able to select the games like a service like GameFly, but it's a similar idea.
2. You're also getting a couple mini games a month to play.
3. You're getting discounts on a good amount of products that you get to keep.

50/year is a small rental fee which is subsidized if you are the type of person that buys add-ons for their games. It becomes more valuable the more you intend to use it.

It was nice to finally get my hands on wipeout hd... and i tbh i didnt like it as much... the discounts were nice on the dlc but they were old so i allready owned the majority of them...So what ps+ needs is fresher content to keep me hooked on for another subscription... Im currently in a wait and see mode....

I can bet my console that sony will make part of the firmware update exclusive to PS+ members, which I'm afraid.

PSN vs XBL, PSN was free, and that was the only advantage, can't believe it costs money now.

right now, i dont think its worth it for the hardcore gamers. i would recommend it to new users though; loads of free content, and great price discounts.

For me, and many hardcore gamers, already have more than half the stuff plus offers... maybe if they included 1 new item from the stores weekly update would be reasonable.

To me it's totally worth it but it really shouldn't be compared to live. Live has never givin me anything free and I feel like supporting plus just because they r keeping online play free. I don't understand how anyone can say anything negative about it because unlike live it's not mandatory . And no I'm not trying to bash live I have live and do like it, I just feel that plus is getting alot of hate. I've never bought anything off psn but now I have alot of cool stuff, and no I don't actually own it but I don't own any of the DVDs I get from netflix.

I am more than happy with paying $50 ($70 Aus) a year for PS+. I can already see the value in it.

I pay $130 a year for Netflix and about $300 a year for Gamefly and I don't get to keep anything from either of them. I also pay $50 a year for Xbox Live. All I get from Live that I actually care about is the ability to play my $60 games online and I don't even do that much.

Not to mention that I pay about $800 a year for the internet to use all of it.

At least consumers have an option without really missing out on anything before playstation plus was released. Its about value and how you see it fitting into your budget: I subscribe to both xbl and ps+ because I like to have full features and can afford it. Its an option that the consumer can decide upon without really missing key features. Yes its 70 dollars aus, the difference of inflation between nations. These articles/opinion pieces are silly as well, ps+ is still in its infancy come back in a year and write your opinion for a better assessment of its value. Where one will find value one will not.

It all depends on what type of gamer you are, and if your going to take advantage of all the deals. You only need to take advantage advantage of only about half of them and it would be worth it. This deal would be good for me. Is it for you?

I get what I need from the standard PSN service, already bad enough paying for Live. It wont be long before gaming becomes like having a mobile phone, Live + PSN plus + Wii(what ever they try...) more friggen bills!

He uses the wrong analogy in his reasons for why you wouldn't buy PSN Plus.

It's actually like signing up to Pay TV knowing the channels (knowing that you get free games, demo's, trials, beta access, themes, avatars) but not knowing what type of shows will be shown on those channels (you sign up not knowing exactly what those games, demo's, trials, beta's, themes and avatars are).

It can be a lucky dip, but it's also not in the fact that you do your research and if the PS Store often has good stuff that you like but can't always afford each and everytime you get PSN Plus.

but not because i don't find it a good deal. i'm just extremely strapped for cash while i settle into my new job and saving as much money as i can.

it doesn't matter if the game they are offering for free is a game i'd want or not. it's free. i can try it out at no risk to me, and who knows, i may be surprised at how good it is.

it's almost like the demo for Pixel Junk Monsters. i had NO INTEREST in that game at all. i tried the demo, and bought the game that day.

i've already seen a handful of free games on PS Plus that i wouldn't mind playing, but not buying.

i DON'T own Wipeout HD, so getting that for free is awesome. i'm sad that they aren't offering Little Big Planet for free here in the US, as i don't own the game anymore, and i'm really missing it. i'll buy it (it's pretty cheap on Amazon), when i can free up some money, but getting it for free would be great.

i find it funny that people are complaining about what is a discount service.

if you add up the discounts already offered, and the cost of the free games offered, whether the price is $50 USD, or $70 AUS, it's still a bargain.

i don't know about other countries, but over here in Los Angeles there's a store called Costco. you pay a $50 membership fee, and you get rather huge discounts on the items they sell there (food, and what not). over the course of that year, you end up saving a large chunk of money on your purchases.

PS Plus is the same thing. you get discounts on things, as well as some free items that will remain free once membership has expired (excepting themes and avatars, which will remain free and yours to keep even after the membership expires). now, i could see PS Plus being a waste if it was revealed back in 2006, when the PS3 first launched and the PSN had NOTHING.

now, there's plenty of content, and they have some solid deals.

the service has been available for LESS THAN 30 days, and already people are trying to downplay it.

it'll be interesting to see a PSN Plus report card after it has 6 MONTHS under it's belt, and you can properly gauge the deals and value.

i think it's funny that people don't seem to realize that EVERY MONTH, Sony will be offering new and different free and discounted items. just because the content offered in the first 4 weeks of the service aren't to your liking doesn't mean it's going to stay that way in month 2, 3, 4, etc, etc.

This gen hasn't been the best for games, last gen consoles are still out there and now there's been talk of the PS6 and Xbox Two for a year or so. Many games this gen will be ported to next gen and the cycle will continue. The re-release of the Neo Geo AES+, games on cartridge for £70 ($95), gaming is going back in time. Gaming has gone pricing mad with the high cost of games, consoles and controllers. The men and women at the top are clueless.

It’s always interesting to hear behind-the-scenes stories like this, especially involving veterans like Shuhei Yoshida and leadership figures like Jim Ryan. That said, there are usually multiple sides to decisions at that level. It could be less about not “listening” and more about differences in long-term vision for PlayStation. Yoshida played a huge role in shaping the brand, so whatever the reason, his impact is undeniable.

If true, and I'm inclined to believe it is, it goes to show that Sony lost their way when they became more western/didn't respect the PlayStation origin story. Andrew House and Jack Tretton did great work, but they also didn't try to fundamentally change the PlayStation DNA. Ryan oversaw the death of Japan Studio and a live service direction.

I miss the first three generations of PlayStation. The way they turned PS3 around, we knew they meant business. We were all worried for a bit there around launch. Eventually from 2008 they started shifting slowly. But since Yoshida was fired, it's never been the same. Still enjoy my PS5 daily. I got a backlog dating back to PS2 lol So I'm fine but new games aren't as appealing anymore.

It seems like we were thrown on to the worst timeline possible where everything is too expensive and the wrong people were put in positions that makes the world a shitty place. We could have had Shu as the head of PS but we got the shitty alternative. Same goes for everyone in power around the world. Doesn’t matter the company or country the majority of us got the shitty picks and the world is declining like never before. I do think PS can come out of this because of their studios, talent and IP but they need someone more in touch with gamers leading things like Shu was. They’re still the best place for console gaming imo but it could be much better than it is especially without the massive live service failures. The rest of the world I have a lot less hope for right now. Hopefully the pendulum swings back towards the good ole days but I’m preparing for the worst.

There's another guy who recently "retired" as CEO of another large gaming company, after doing a dismantling job as lead for well over a decade.

seems legit, the business man, fires the one who has ideas to move the business forward.

Jim Ryan is the reason why we are entering year 6 since the PS5 launch and many of us don't feel like the PS5 has gotten started as yet.

I hope going forward, we will see a return to form.
