Edit: Can we all agree that the PSP is dead outside Japan? Sony really needs to do something special with the PSP2 if they want to remain competitive in the handheld space. A shame really, cause I really like my PSP :(

I think hat june may have been the first time in a while that sony had a good supply of ps3s as they went up alot. 360 sales were really good as expected. The DS is a beast wow.

Shouldn't we be happy for the Wii? Hasn't the Wii generated an insane amount of cash into the gaming industry? Shouldn't we be excited to see what Ninentendo can do with all that money in R&D?

Love it or hate it, Nintendo brought something new to the table, and it paid off. Now they get the chance to bring something else. For all you know their next 'gimmick' might actually be something that blows gamers minds. With HD, 3D, BluRay.

You should be excited to see what the future holds for the once King of consoles now that they got a huge share of the market back.

Because America gets sales statistics every month and America happens to have the largest market share, about 50% of the world wide gaming market. That is more than Japan and Europe combined!

Yeah, that's what I was thinking. They cut the prices of the other models to make room for the new SKU, and that came out this month, too. It's not surprising in the least, as it's not every month that the 360 beats the Wii. You guys DO remember last year when Sony introduced the Slim and the price cut, and what they did to the NPD sales that next month, do you?

Not to mention that the PS3 was still having shortages hurting its sales (which Sony DOES need to get fixed).

And those that aren't 360 fanboys care about the rest of the world AS WELL (not JUST the "rest of the world") because those sales matter, too. If the 360 doesn't get a foothold in Japan (which they don't at ALL), guess what happens to Microsoft's chances to getting Japanese developer support? How about European developer support if the UK numbers don't hold up? And then what does that show the American developers about the strength of a system across ALL territories? If the system can only beat another in the territory in which it originated (which the 360 is doing), then it's not going to be AS attractive to put something exclusive onto a platform that only the US is going to be able to play. I'm sure EA and Take Two sees it this way, and they obviously do.

So yeah, you might want to START caring about "the rest of the world". But why do I have a feeling that the people who disagree with this won't JUST disagree with it or even say WHY?

Now that Vgchartz as made a comeback on N4G, since the 360 as been winning may I add, I would like to point out that Vgchartz are way out for last month.

About 250,000 in the americas for PS3 and 520,000 in the america for 360.

yeah it's like what I said they use estimation from the data they do get and always undertrack ps3, this time is by a whole whopping 90k, they are always nice towards the 360, but seriously they have doubted shortages for months on end now, despite lots of facts being around, now shortages are finally gone and ps3 does 300k, and x60 does 450k, so that is not impressive for the 360 considering ps3 did 500k in one week alone on slim release and I think about 1.5m ps3s was sold in a month world wide so basically even when x360 goes on sale over here it has no chance of going beyond what ps3 slim did

MAG, HR, GOW3, WKC, Y3, MNR and 3DDGH make 7 PS3 exclusives so far in 2010.

VS

X360 only got 2, AW and C2... Even if add the PC multiplats ME2, SCC and M2033, it still got beaten by PS3 exclusive lineup so far. Unless I'm missing something.

I said exclusives, I didn't say blockbusters and or AAA games. 360 has exclusives that are completely overlooked by the media every year because they are not massive budget games.

Sniper: Ghost Warrior just came out, this game is the perfect example of what Im talking about. Low budget exclusive, but still a great game to many; yet completely ignored by the gaming media.

PS3 no longer gets these low budget gems because the cell is a fortune to work with.

No exclusive on PS3 is ignored by the gaming media by the way, no matter how insignificant it is, thats just how the Sony bias in the media works.

That a console with "no exclusives, as you put it, is able to outpace a console in the US that carries the same games plus exclusives, while offering a bluray player with wifi built in from the jump? The 360s was released in early june NOT the beginning of june. You also have to keep in mind it took about week for units to hit shelves after release, and even then supplies were quite limited. None of this changes the fact it is PS3 that is doomed to 3rd place for the rest of this gen.

Point is that it is still neck and neck with the 360 despite microsoft spoon feeding you and your xbox brethren that its the end all be all of consoles. Remember the first xbox? Other than the couple months that the PS3 outsold the 360, its always the same arguement. "PS3 sold more worldwide!!!". "there was a shortage!!!". I like my PS3, again for the morons on this site i dont OWN a 360, but the 360 is what consumers want int the most important demographic for game hardware manufacturers. Its been the 360>PS3 since i joined this site. Stop all the nonsense spin, MS is doing a better job, as of right now, giving US consumers what they want in a console.

Don't confuse giving U.S. consumers what they want with "Spoon feeding lies and promises to get the unededucated consumers here in america to buy" Dude this is the only country on the face of the planet where people run out in droves to buy a product because "Their friendz haz one!" Despite the numerous quality problems, overpriced add ons and features, lack of features standard on other consoles people keep throwing money at microsoft. One FACT i've discovered is that alot of hardcore 360 owners have bought multiple consoles which inflates the numbers. Im not complaining. I myself purchased a Slim to upgrade (which by the way is awesome!!!) Even quieter than the PS3 now

Platform holders make the bulk of their profit from game sales. If there are no new adopters then there game sales remain unchanged.

Biggest sellers on the 360 pages of Amazon and Play recently have been the 360 slim at number 1. and the HDD Migration kit at number 2.

Sony fanboys love playing the japan card. they think that because Microsoft wins in America and Sony wins in Japan, they cancel each other out. the problem is that Microsoft has sold 20 million 360s in America, whereas Sony has only sold 5 million PS3s in Japan. so company A selling 200k more than company B in America is most definitely not cancelled out by company B selling 50k more than company A in Japan. Company A is still 150k up for that month.

Japan is, in reality, not very important in the grand scheme of console sales - and every generation its getting less and less important. Japan is notoriously 'patriotic' with technology. unless its from Japan, they dont want a bar of it. this mentality is whats becoming their undoing in the video game world, as their style of games are becoming less and less wanted and more and more outdated. i mean, they make RAPE games! and games where you lift up anime girls skirts! is it any wonder why Japan is being left behind?

If Microsoft have sold 20 million in USA and 1 million in Japan it's 21 million.
If Sony have sold 15 million in America and 5 million in Japan its 20 million.

So it's basically even.

You are ignorant if you think Japan doesn't matter or the numbers don't add up.
PS3 is going to outsell the 360 by over 1 million this year and it does that every year gaining around 4 million on the 360 in it's lifetime.

If they were free? Seeing how Ape Escape seems to be butchered with the real game coming out later, I'll take Kinect for the ultimate Child of Eden experience.

Was sure that other submission was posted before this one but anyways.

Wow 360 above PS3 AND Wii, very rare indeed and only a week and a half of slim sales. Don't think the PS3 has ever topped the Wii in the US yet. Just think of the impact of the $199 Slim :S. Plus 360 contiues to outsell the PS3 WW too and is neck and neck with the Wii. The gap between the HD consoles could grow to 7-9ml by year end depending on if Kinect is a hit and MS can keep up with demand.

Edit: Ok it did it once, think the 360 has done it 3 times, with Halo 3 and the big pricecut

Kind of hard to say that as a fact considering 1) all of June isn't accounted for, only estimated and 2) July hasn't even been calculated at all for sales.

I do see a huge leap in sales in U.S. and UK for the new 360, but worlwide? I'd have to see the solid numbers to go with that.

And yet, I still believe those numbers are a high percentage of re-buys. Why I say that ? Despite the increase of 360 HW sales (over the last 4 weeks now) the SW sales compared between 360 and PS3 remain constant. I would assume, this shows, the gap is not really growing. We will see at the end, but, if you take absolute numbers in the US, and say, the SW sales would somewhat be proportional to those numbers, the HW to SW ratio does not match. This is either, because the 360 gets replace more frequently or 360 users buy less games (per console).

Maybe you are right, and the ArcadeS will have a bigger impact, but so far, despite the success of the 360 - which had a new model introduced and clearance of older models (down to $150) - I think the increase is moderate. Also note, the PS3 doubled its sales from May to June. This is far more interesting since Sony has neither announced a price cut nor a new model.

What difference does re-buy make regardless which console you buy. A purchase is a purchase. The fact that you are trying to downplay that a person went and repurchased a console is sad since it is still a sale to the company.

The sale to the company means nothing, if the margin comes from SW sold, not necessarily the HW itself (margins on HW - if any - won't make anybody rich). The HW is an instrument to grow the SW market. If that doesn't happen, install base means nothing.

Re-buys effectively do not grow the install base, and as such also do not grow the SW market.

They can sell 1M if it is basically replacements, it doesn't mean a thing. Hopefully they can make enough to cover the 2 years development costs...

Yet you are ignoring that the 360 still sales actual software. The attach ratio is still high for the system so your concern about growth is pretty minor. Plus If some of those sales are rebuys what it is telling you is that consumers are continuing to buy software for that console. You are also assuming consumers only have one console in the home. I have 3 and took my Dec 05 console to Gamestop for the trade in for a new 360s. No one here has actual numbers what was sold to what consumer. Speculating doesn't change the fact that they were sold and you can't tell how big a bump/decline in software without actual data so it is really a waste of time to claim one way or the other.

Sony is claiming they have solved their shipment slump. Plus for the last 7 months the 360 has outsold the PS3 for NPD so I am not sure where the view that it is considered moderate when the last system to get a price drop was the PS3 with a slim. Again your claim about software sales should be the same effect that happened with the PS3s when it was released.

Great nubmers for PS3, over 300k, not bad at all.. I imagine that now ALL of the old 360 models are sold out, the sales will drop pretty steep from here for the 360.. remember guys

the Arcade model is no longer avaliable. so from here on out it will be $299.99 VS $299.99 with the PS3 VS 360. I think the PS3 might even surpass the 360 from here on out

I am one of those people. If there were a few Must Play exclusives on the Xbox and the reliability were shown to be acceptable then I'd buy one.

While I expect the new slim model is more reliable, it's far too early to tell. In a year or so then we should have a good idea as to whether they've finally got a reliable design.

Microsoft has claimed every new iteration of the 360 has solved the issues but ever iteration continues to have the same issued. Granted they have a smaller percentage but the fact remains that microsoft cannot solve the problems of their design. Maybe shoehoring pc parts into a small case and using it for hi end gaming 24/7 just doesnt work. Sony developed the ps3 from ground up with one off designs which is why it cost an arm and a leg to produce but look at the quality. Speaks for itself. Microsoft has lost all of my trust and respect. Nothing they produce is high quality despite their claims in the contrary.

The jasper chip have been tested and are within consumer accepted rates for electronics sub 4% just like the ps 3.

I figured the 360 would see a boost, plus this is with only a week of 360s sales or so involved. I know people still on the waiting list from Gamestop to get theres. Probably when it starts to die down a bit, we'll see the Arcade $199 model out. My guess is the Arcade will have Wifi, Wired controller and 4 GB memory, which was "leaked". So for $199 you get everything you need and no worries about Red ring.

The Red Dead thing didn't surprise me, Multiplat games seem to always do better on 360.

Looking good overall for gamers in general.

I don't understand. The attach rate for games on the PS3 should be approximately half the 360, if you look at the raw hardware numbers. Yet the PS3:360 attach ratio is about 2:3, which is a lot higher than the 1:2 hardware ratio between the two consoles in the US, where NPD reports.

Shouldn't these new 360s sold account for some serious software spikes as well? Why would someone buy a console, but not any software for it? Newer 360 owners more likely to be thrifty, and buy used games?

...getting your attach rate figures? Are you basing your whole argument on the 360 v PS3 sales of Red Dead in June compared to the hardware sales in June? Why should the PS3 attach rate be half of the 360's? Not following your logic...nor is it backed up by any of the sales figures from the NPD's.

360 sold about 150k more in consoles and about 200k more in Red Dead... seems like the ratio would be about right for new console buyers, etc...

True attach rate is game specific. It is a measure of how many customers that own a platform actually bought a specific game. The attach rate we always see people talk about is the average amount of games that have been bought per console sold. If there are 50 million consoles sold and 500 million pieces of software sold, the attach rate would be 10:1. When an additional 1 million consoles are sold the attach rate actually goes down since it's very unlikely 10 pieces of software were sold with each new console purchase. In all honesty this ratio means very little to gamers and is intended to impress developers and publishers.

Wii and DS had a great month as usual.
X360 had a great month.
PS3 had more sales then i thought. Why the sales spike for the PS3?
PSP not so good sales wise. Also no Peace Walker in top 10 sofware.
Red Dead still going strong. It deserves it. Best game this year.

Those are good numbers all around. The console with the lowest sales still sold over 300K, in June. Those are good number for everyone regardless of whatever fanboy allegiance. But to me it doesn't really matter because I have a 360 and a PS3, and I've had a Wii before so this dick measuring contest is just pure amusement for me. Get your rulers, guys.

Yes, wissam they are multiplatform games, but people who play games on the 360 aren't crying the way PS3 fanboys claim. They're not sitting around saying, "Oh damn, I have no good games to play on 360 because none of the good games that just came out are exclusive to the 360."

I have a friend who only has a 360, and he's playing a lot of games right now. A lot of these fanboys seem to think that gamers only play whatever games are just coming out. But that's not true. The 360 has a large backlog of games that I haven't played, and it would take me years to get through all of them. There are maybe 75 games that are rated 80 or above on Metacritic that I haven't played. Do PS3 fanboys really think 360 gamers are sitting around, crying that there are few AAA true exclusives on their console? I question the logic of these fools on this site. A real gamer doesn't do this kind of shit.

Those consoles were inventive and cheap and had a ton of games. The PS3 started on the wrong note for a lot of people to be honest. For all the positives with the PS3, there are negatives as well. Not saying Nintendo or Microsoft don't have negatives as well, just saying Sony got away from what made the PS1 and PS2 so amazing, which wasn't graphics but it was price point and the amount of games.

Oh uh this is just America, and even though I'm American I want to promote my favorite console, who won with ps2 and is getting p u n k e d on ps3. Why I have to have an excuse every month is because when we build up the hype machine for a new game for over a year and it doesn't sell more than a 360 multiplatform, well duh, PS3 has better exclusives. And duh, when I say I am a PS3 fangirl two times a day on the web, but I don't have a real life but my virtual life is awesome I have 3 trophies, and my guyfriends wish they could beat me-at playing games with myself. You little google babies are some sad suckers, just cuz you wet your panties whenever the ps3 sticks it in your face, doesn't mean all must now bow to the almighty 3rd place ps3, oh thats why they called it ps3 huh? Haha.

Good to see Red Dead selling. Great game, deserves all the sels it gets. Really sad not to see Alan Wake there. Another game that is really awesome. And congrats to the 360 for top spot. The others did well also.

stop buying ds for your family and friends etc when you already know a 3ds will come soon. if you keep buying the ds we will have to wait even longer for 3ds to come out in america while japan will be enjoying it. BUT why is it each month some of the fanboys keep mentioning worlwide sales to make them feel better.

Each month you come into a USA sales chart thread and spew out wordwide number talk to validate your ps3 purchase. These sales are from the USA, so stop talking about worldwide sales to try to make a point that shouldnt be made in a USA sales chart thread., I dont care HOW many 360 and ps3's where sold in ghanna or camaroon when im in a USA sales chart thread.

Impressive for Microsoft....1st place in sales, outselling the PS3 by 50%, even with the new 360 model shortages.
July is going to be a bloodbath for Microsoft. The new model will be out for the full month in July.
Sony really needs a price cut this year..they have to get to $250

Woww... 360 got a boost in sale just because 360 owners upgraded their old system for the new model, that's the truth and nothing but the truth.
In the other hand new ps3 owners are playing their new system.

amazing sales for ps3, finally proving that in previous months there was shortages, take that facepalm, ps3 sold 300k, and x360 only outsold ps3 by 150k in one month, not impressive when ps3s outsold the 360 by 150k in one week alone last year!!

PC numbers: 82.8 million PCs Sold World Wide for the three months of April May June in 2010.

This is up 22.4% from the same period in 2009.

ah a great month yet again,you know it's really nice to see we have come far as an industry and we just keep moving forward, this is going to be epic this holiday season.

these numbers show us one very important thing -> that idea of dual screen that nintendo had paid off, and the coming of christ "3DS" will set that them in a whole new ball game. would be funny to see Apple trying to copy the 3DS to move into the hand held market. Don't get me wrong I don't hate apple products it's just that their method of trying to "freebie games" their way in and say look at our sales data doesn't work for me. Maybe that's why they aren't on the NPD even though they have a handheld that plays games.

on an other note, 360s looking good but how long will it last.

for the common folks out there, the wii normally sells sub level sales during the year and does get passed up by the other 2 here and there but holiday season is an other story as it's normally nintendo family season.

Has anyone been able to get a black wii and have their data switched over? would like to give my gf the white one so i can get a black one and have my MH tri data switched over =/

Not bad, but I wonder why PS2 isn't listed? Theirs a list of games for it (Meaning they haven't stop making games yet) and their has been some PS2 sold.

Maybe they just give up on keeping track of it.

Having a more mature network
Having less 1st and 2nd party exclusives
Having a cheaper price point
Having poor quality hardware
Having a "Pay the middle man" to unlock the online component of games

... is the day I have a major FREAK-OUT and start laughing HYSTERICALLY at all the young teenie boppers and the failing consumer decisions for supporting such trash. The day, when 'Instant-Gratification' ; got its just due and the ps3 gets the recognition it deserves. Thats the day I will personally lead the fanboy war in N4G. Where the "smart consumers" always knew the Games, Quality and developer freedom was in Sony's camp.

No, i'm not a fanboy, yes I despise the microsoft and more-so their entry into the gaming division as from what I've seen, it hasn't "Helped" the industry at all, but instead offered less and cost more.

I somewhat reluctantly have to agree with you as the XBOX and 360 have offered nothing new to the gaming public and has only taken Microsoft's attention away from the power of PC gaming.

A mad rush to make 360 games and sell millions has only worked out for Halo 3 CODMW2 GTAIV and Gears of War 2 (over 5 million each)

as all others (a handful of others) have done 2 million or less (Alan Wake not even a million).

But I don't foresee the PS3 ever passing the 360 in total sales until the the 360 is discontinued and the PS3 is like $129

You're damn right,they don't,not to gamers anyway.However,they can be informative.For instance,what consecutive sets of figure do show,is there is likely going to be no clear winner this generation.I think that is a reasonable assumption to make, don't you? And if it is, then you have to admit that MS will be more pleased with that, than Sony.
