GameSpot: Blacklight: Tango Down Review

For multiplayer shooting on a budget, you can't go wrong with Blacklight: Tango Down. You easily get more than your $15 worth here, and the gameplay offers a change of pace for those who are getting a little burned out on the multiplayer in full-price games like Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. A handful of tweaks would be welcome, particularly when it comes to map spawn points and the disappointing solo/co-op mode of play, but you really can't nitpick considering how much you're getting for a very reasonable price.

This is a no buy for me. It felt like a cheap COD wanna be. I forgot it is cheap. I can buy a used old FPS that's better than this. It looks like there are trying to slide in these cheap XBLA games and make a profit. $15 for this is a no buy.

Cheap COD wanna be? What's cheap about COD $15 map packs? Hmmmm lets see...3 new maps and one map I already own on a different game for $15, or a full brand new game for the same price?

Holeran5791d ago

Ya you can buy an old used fps that in your opinion is better than this but will it have as many people playing it on a daily basis? Probably not, considering that many people play these for a limited number of hours than play the next one in line. And there is not that many FPS in this ones target price range.

Not a bad score. Though i have to many other games to worry about then buying a PSN shooter.

sure this game is 15 bucks. but regardless its still pretty cheap. sure it has some cool ideas but its execution is just barely above sub par. and gievn the quality of XBLA titles (Shadow Complex) to just pat this game on the back and say, "oh a downloadable FPS for 15 bucks gets a pass" is down right stupid. it's still an FPS and not a very good one at that. it should be held to the same standards. which out of 10 in my mind is about a 4

Everyone seems to be loving the self-pub route! I think if you can afford it, that's the way to go to maintain control of your creative design.

Ju4723d ago (Edited 4723d ago )

I think that's quite brave from Sony. And a huge shift in philosophy. It's mighty risky as well, but Apple seems to be quite successful with it. Why shouldn't it work on consoles. I hope it will. Cheaper prices and much more variety should be the result. The big pubs will need to adjust sooner or later I guess.

Dead_Cell4723d ago (Edited 4723d ago )

Instead of just buying exclusivity for a developers work Sony seems to be going all out to just make the console enjoyable and easy work for the developers, thus encouraging work to come to them. Smart move. The PS4 is being received entirely differently to how the PS3 was at this point.

Musicians, filmmakers and various other artists have been doing it for years. Its about time indie devs get to step out of the shadows and step into the limelight.

While many indie games have been released in the past, in order to get noticed, they had to offer their games super cheap, or even free to get noticed. Now, with services like Steam and PSN as platforms to showcase their work, they stand a greater chance of actually turning a profit from their hard work.

It's yet another PS4 F2P that I'll be playing.

doctorstrange4723d ago

Better start saving. Oh wait.

wastedcells4723d ago

Surprised how much free to play is coming to PS4. Something like 2-3 games in the launch window and 2 at launch.

HammadTheBeast4723d ago

Blacklights actually really fun. It's fast paced, but also has a feeling of tactical game play, you can dominate without it being EZ mode, but you'll need skills.

Excellent interview. Looking forward to playing this on PS4.

Virtual_Reality4723d ago (Edited 4723d ago )

The game is fun as a F2P. But I've heard it will have 4vs4 battles on PS4 instead 8vs8. Hopefully they increase the cap.

XBLA Shooting Gallery

"So you’re stuck in your dorm room/apartment/house/parent’s house and you have nothing to play. You want to play a shooter but you’re sick of what you’ve got so you peruse the Xbox Live Arcade to find cheap thrills (no not like that…). But there are so many of them. Well to help you in your search for some cheap entertainment I have spent some time getting to know four of these arcade shooters and, like any good friend, I have judged them. And for your reading pleasure I have listed them in order from least favorite to favorite. Enjoy." - Caleb from Leviathyn.com.

I always look at Gotham City Imposers as Team Fortress in Gotham. Yet, I still have yet to buy it. Is it worth it?

{TPV Asks:} Why Do XBLA/PSN First Person Shooter Games Generally Fail?

Play Vault's Jonathan:

"I attempt to explain why downloadable first person shooter games do not achieve the levels of success they intend to do so and why they are often released to mixed or negative reviews. There are exceptions to the rule but the downloadable first person shooter genre is blown wide open and the pieces analysed."

There really hasn't been one yet that can stand up with the big boys..

BF1943 is good, but has very little content. If there was like 2x as much of everything then it would have done way better.

Section 8 is pretty good too, but just generally falls short in mechanics and overall fun.

Blacklight just isn't as good as those, but I wouldn't call it bad either.
