I don't get critics and whiners.

It seems greater the game, greater the dissatisfaction.

Bobbykotickrulesz5798d ago (Edited 5798d ago )

Actually, the game hasn't "grabbed" me either.

Not that there's anything wrong with the game. Honestly, I just don't like games like GTA anymore. They take out detail and depth and replace it with a big world with ultimately lifeless characters roaming it.

Information Minister5798d ago

Yeah I was disappointed at RDR as well. It's a good game, but it feels too much like previous Rockstar titles. After a while you just can't shake that "been there, done that" feeling.

There's nothing wrong with the people that didn't enjoy RDR that much, even if they're a minority. People are allowed to have different preferences in movies, music, cars, even in women. Why not games?

Brewski0075798d ago

I love RDR but it hasnt hooked me either. I played it loads and loads , maybe too much when i first got it. Then I took a break from it. . and have since not been able to go back to it. Its like its not THAT addictive , more of a spectacle than a great game. Im still glad i bought it but i really dont think it deserved scores as high when it didnt take into account the longetivity of the game.

Wikkid6665798d ago

Great game, but the open sandbox world game thing just doesn't do it for me. For me I start playing and end up doing everything except the story. Which is fun, but.... it just ends up being long tedious. I guess I'm just ol' school because I enjoy liner games.

himdeel5798d ago (Edited 5798d ago )

...but you know that feeling you get when you get a new game and you HAVE to complete it so you play everyday until the game is finished? Well I have yet to get that feeling with RDR. I enjoy playing and it's engaging when I am playing but there is a lot of nothing but plenty to see if that makes any sense. Likewise I totally agree Major Jack and this statements is very well articulated...

"They take out detail and depth and replace it with a big world with ultimately lifeless characters roaming it."

va_bank5798d ago

I agree with every reply in this thread. I don't know what I was expecting and I thought the game was awesome - for the first 3 hours. I also couldn't get over being distracted by the technical issues in the game. I stopped playing it when Peace Walker came out and instead of going back to RDR I went back to GTA:TLAD & BOGT

JsonHenry5798d ago

Me either. I played it for less than a week then gave it away.

talltony5798d ago

No matter how much I tried I just could not get into the story and holding x and listenning to some crap i dnt care about got really old. Personally it is the most overrated game i have ever played.

darren_poolies5798d ago (Edited 5798d ago )

What? Seriously?

Actually when I think about it, some big-name games haven't grabbed me either such as Bioshock and Fallout 3.

himdeel5798d ago

...but KNOW I waited to late to play them. By the time I got around to them I enjoyed them but wasn't very impressed :(

darren_poolies5797d ago

Yeah, were kinda in the same boat. :)

gillri5798d ago

I loved it at the start, then went through a long period where i thought it was a bit pedestrian, maybe its the GTA style structure, you go here something goes wrong and then you shoot aload of people

but I loved the ending I thought it was so awesome

kneon5798d ago (Edited 5798d ago )

I thought the ending was stupid.

The rest of the game was good but not great. Far too repetitive and too many glitches. I did get to 100% completion but only because I hate not finishing. I will definitely not be trying for the platinum, I'm done with this game, I've had enough.

blodulv5798d ago

Yeah, I'm very close the %100 mark and I still can't seem to pick it back up and continue. After the ending I was done.

talltony5798d ago (Edited 5798d ago )

even force myself to get 100% in the story and I platinum almost every game i get. Not my kind of game at all.

DontShoot-Me-Bro5798d ago

Single player was good, but multiplayer...i played for about a week, and then got bored.

RIPSKATEDESTROY5798d ago

is it just me or did the ending with john's son end too quick?

jetlian5798d ago

way to quick all you did was travel to the otherside of the map

Rockstar launches official marketplace for mods

Rockstar has launched an official marketplace for "every server and every player" to buy mods: Cfx Marketplace.

I wonder how much of this isn't just taken work of others who have modded for free.

Edit: Also, great way for R* to take popular ideas and build them into GTAVI based on demand.

fr0sty132d ago

What I see happening here is, R* is going to ban mods in GTA6 UNLESS you buy them from the marketplace and R* then gets a cut of that sale.

ActualWhiteMan132d ago

Ah, perfect timing with them taking down the Bully online fan mod. Greedy a$$ company.

Christopher132d ago

It's okay as long as they get a cut of the money.

fr0sty132d ago

Expect R* to force it on you.

Snookies12131d ago

Yep, right there with you. I'll happily donate to a mod creator if it looks really cool, or if I enjoy it. But expecting payment up front? Nope, not touching it.

IanTH132d ago (Edited 132d ago )

I'm not entirely sure how to read this, as it doesn't seem exactly like an exact parallel to Bethesda's paid mods shenanigans.

Rather than single player stuff, this appears to be aimed solely on Cfx Servers. From what I've gleaned, apparently Rockstar bought the Cfx mod team several years ago, coming a few years after weird contentions led them to ban a few of their members. Ultimately, the question is if they plan to keep this contained to only online/servers.

I have to guess to a degree yes. It'd be pretty hard to "force" paid mods for single player when modding files locally on your own machine, but much easier for servers they'll control. So perhaps this is their soft launch ahead of GTA6 online and they'll clamp down more tightly on non-official servers going forward? Ever since they've become a 1 or 2 property studio, I haven't really cared much for Rockstar stuff, so I'm not entirely up on everything surrounding this. Sounds like it has the potential to be problematic further down the line, but right now fairly easy to ignore...I think lol.

Red Dead Redemption Hits 3.3 Million Netflix Downloads on Mobile

Red Dead Redemption hits 3.3 million Netflix downloads on mobile, underscoring how subscription access drives reach over paid sales.

More like people don't play these type of games on their phone normally and don't try them out. Not like the places where people do play these games haven't crushed those numbers easily.

How many people actually played more than an hour of the game or came close to finishing it on mobile is the real question. If people aren't playing the games to a point that is purposeful, then why try when a subscription that is behind a streaming service isn't a sign of success but just curiosity.

What if Netflix becomes ‘the Netflix of gaming?!’

Alek83133d ago

I downloaded it because I already have a Netflix sub.
I am not going to buy it for $40 or whatever it costs on Google Play.

I tried it out and will be sticking to the PC version, but it's not bad.

Having said that, this is the issues I see vs the PC version:
1. Greatly reduced texture resolution.
2. Massive downgrade ALL lighting quality (this includes water, shadows, etc).
3. Stutter and heat. Prolonged play leads to both.
On the plus side, we have:
4. This thing is like 6GB vs the 12 on Steam.

Great way to try the game, but not the best way to play it.

darthv72135d ago

Perhaps Netflix will make a RDR series now that ST is done with.

Lionsguard134d ago

A Netflix version of RDR?... Oh boy... I can't wait... /s

TheColbertinator134d ago

They should build a production that includes members behind the True Grit remake and Hell on Wheels from AMC. Both were perfect for wild west vibes.

gold_drake134d ago

but i doubt people ACTUALLY played it on smartphone vs tried it out.

Another free update...good to know but I don't own a series X

Petebloodyonion167d ago

I’m not sure what the exact issue is. I had no trouble getting the free update—you basically get the new game for free if you have the 360 version in your digital library. Maybe the problem is related to owning or not owning the Undead DLC expansion.

Hypertension140167d ago (Edited 167d ago )

Yea I think thats what it is. I also own the game but not the expansion, and im unable to download the update.
