Destructoid: Blacklight: Tango Down Review

Destructoid: The easily pleased or easily fooled might convince themselves that Blacklight: Tango Down is an excellent game, thanks to the smoke and mirrors put in place by the developers. After all, a fully-fledged first-person-shooter with impressive graphics on XBLA/PSN is pretty outstanding, and it is tempting to forgive the game's issues due to the ambition on show. However, ambition and success are two entirely different things, and Blacklight just isn't successful at anything, save for constant irritation.

I totally disagree, I've only played the trial but from what I played I really enjoyed the game, it was fast-passed fun. would give it more of a 7.5/10 for an arcade title.

ViciousBoston5781d ago

Majority of FPS deserve a 5/10 this is one of the most fair reviews i've seen from Mr. Sterling. FPS are generic and its the same system insert new story and new multiplayer maps. Hardly worth 40 dollars nevermind 60.

Blacktric5781d ago (Edited 5781d ago )

I'll kill that fatass and pour his fat on Destructoid's servers to destroy everything related to that website someday. It's a website filled with retarded game journalists and non-retarded ones working for them are just trying to look intelligent but keep failing miserably. They are a total disgrace to the gaming journalism.

HolyOrangeCows5781d ago (Edited 5781d ago )

I've come to respect Jim's reviews. He makes good points and I like to see a review that actually looks for the flaws in a game.

Plus he's hilarious.

MONOLITHICIDE5781d ago

ViciousBoston, i believe this is only 15 bucks

MiloGarret5781d ago (Edited 5781d ago )

What's up with the psycho making death-threats over there? Instaban in my opinion.

It's a Jim Sterling review, the guy pretty much tries to put down a majority of games just to get hits and make it seem like he matters in the gaming community....i like to compare him to Patcher, everyone knows who he is and know he's full of BS.

I've only played the demo of the game but from what i've seen its really good for a XBL/PSN FPS, if it wasnt for the fact that i'm kinda sick of FPS games i'd prolly give it a purchase.

talltony5781d ago

And right off the bat I knew this game blows hard core. I didnt even play all 60 mins of the trial cause everything just felt and looked extremely mediocre. No point of this game not even for 15 bucks.

Redlogic5781d ago

at least someone understands his review style. I will never understand why people get their panties in a twist when they see a review by Jim. Let me clue you morons in on something HE USES THE ENTER 1-10 SCALE!! Just because he gave the game a 3 doesn't make his review less credible. I bet most of the time people comment without even reading the review. If you do, he always backs up his scores with plenty of reason and usually depicts the games close enough. Granted, I don't always agree with each review (like his 4.5 for ACII) but I respect his opinion, because in the end REVIEWS ARE OPINIONS.

BattleAxe5781d ago

Their review scores are a bit outrageous....

Jim Sterling has become a hits whore, his reviews can't be taken seriously.

SeanRL5781d ago

This is the same guy who was making fun of MGS4's AI while playing the game on the easiest difficulty isn't it? I haven't taken him seriously for a long time.

MorganX5782d ago

I would imagine it's as good as any other FPS. It's an XBLA downloadable so one shouldn't expect MW2.

Just goes to show how FPS have become an assembly line commodity.

kingdavid5782d ago

Its not though, the shooting mechanics are poor.

Chuk55782d ago

His reviews are so widly blown out of proportion. Give it a break. It's a $15 xbla shooter. It's main problem is hat it isn't anything special. It's ok,not deplorable.

RankFTW5782d ago

Does anyone know when this game will be released on PSN?

NYPunkster5781d ago

no official release date yet rankftw.

Zombie Studios Discuss PS4 Development, F2P and Self-Publishing

While at E3, PSLS got a chance to speak with Brice Broaddus, the Art Director behind the upcoming Free-to-Play Blacklight: Retribution being developed by Zombie Studios for PS4 and PC. Everyone seems to be loving the self-pub route! I think if you can afford it, that's the way to go to maintain control of your creative design.

Ju4710d ago (Edited 4710d ago )

I think that's quite brave from Sony. And a huge shift in philosophy. It's mighty risky as well, but Apple seems to be quite successful with it. Why shouldn't it work on consoles. I hope it will. Cheaper prices and much more variety should be the result. The big pubs will need to adjust sooner or later I guess.

Dead_Cell4710d ago (Edited 4710d ago )

Instead of just buying exclusivity for a developers work Sony seems to be going all out to just make the console enjoyable and easy work for the developers, thus encouraging work to come to them. Smart move. The PS4 is being received entirely differently to how the PS3 was at this point.

Rhaigun4710d ago

Musicians, filmmakers and various other artists have been doing it for years. Its about time indie devs get to step out of the shadows and step into the limelight.

While many indie games have been released in the past, in order to get noticed, they had to offer their games super cheap, or even free to get noticed. Now, with services like Steam and PSN as platforms to showcase their work, they stand a greater chance of actually turning a profit from their hard work.

TrendyGamers4710d ago

It's yet another PS4 F2P that I'll be playing.

doctorstrange4710d ago

Better start saving. Oh wait.

wastedcells4710d ago

Surprised how much free to play is coming to PS4. Something like 2-3 games in the launch window and 2 at launch.

HammadTheBeast4710d ago

Blacklights actually really fun. It's fast paced, but also has a feeling of tactical game play, you can dominate without it being EZ mode, but you'll need skills.

dbjj120884710d ago

Excellent interview. Looking forward to playing this on PS4.

Virtual_Reality4710d ago (Edited 4710d ago )

The game is fun as a F2P. But I've heard it will have 4vs4 battles on PS4 instead 8vs8. Hopefully they increase the cap.

XBLA Shooting Gallery

"So you’re stuck in your dorm room/apartment/house/parent’s house and you have nothing to play. You want to play a shooter but you’re sick of what you’ve got so you peruse the Xbox Live Arcade to find cheap thrills (no not like that…). But there are so many of them. Well to help you in your search for some cheap entertainment I have spent some time getting to know four of these arcade shooters and, like any good friend, I have judged them. And for your reading pleasure I have listed them in order from least favorite to favorite. Enjoy." - Caleb from Leviathyn.com.

I always look at Gotham City Imposers as Team Fortress in Gotham. Yet, I still have yet to buy it. Is it worth it?

{TPV Asks:} Why Do XBLA/PSN First Person Shooter Games Generally Fail?

Play Vault's Jonathan:

"I attempt to explain why downloadable first person shooter games do not achieve the levels of success they intend to do so and why they are often released to mixed or negative reviews. There are exceptions to the rule but the downloadable first person shooter genre is blown wide open and the pieces analysed."

There really hasn't been one yet that can stand up with the big boys..

BF1943 is good, but has very little content. If there was like 2x as much of everything then it would have done way better.

Section 8 is pretty good too, but just generally falls short in mechanics and overall fun.

Blacklight just isn't as good as those, but I wouldn't call it bad either.
