Gamenoob: Blacklight: Tango Down - Review

Blacklight: Tango Down is the latest first-person shooter to join the fray of an increasing number of downloadable shooters for Xbox LIVE Arcade. Blacklight is everything you expect from an FPS, they can’t really deviate from the standard gameplay of shooting things. But, as with all FPS’s, they have to have their own unique elements. Blacklight introduces a HRV (Hyper Reality Visor) which allows players to enter the visor and spot enemies on the map, however they cannot shoot them. It sort of works similar to a UAV in you can find out where enemies are around the map, but as previously mentioned, it renders you a stationary target for the moments that you are in the HRV. The other unique things Blacklight has is a digi-grenade and an EMP grenade. The digi-grenade is like a futuristic smoke grenade that turns the screen into pixelated madness when caught up in it.

For a $15 game, it has some pretty good graphics and some fun ass gameplay. I'm starting to hate the FPS genre, but this one was actually really fun online.

Inside_out5801d ago

The demo is a laggy mess. Giving the game a 9/10 from what I've seen seems to be a " little " bit too high. Wait for some real in game testimonials.

PSfan095801d ago

speaking of which, when is this coming on psn, i much rather play this than new modern warfare maps

Pandamobile5801d ago

The Wikipedia page has it listed as "TBA August 2010", and the PC version as July 14th.

Rampaged Death5801d ago

It's good for the price but it's nowhere near a 9/10

Spenok5801d ago

Maybe thats one reason they scored it the way they did. Because of the price i mean.

HaVoK3085801d ago

Perfect example why I dont base my purchasing off of game reviews. Lucky if this game reaches a 2 in my book.

TechnicalBS5801d ago

Not the best game I've played as far as FPS games go, but it was fun when I played the demo.

The Enduring Legacy of Xbox Live 1.0

Sure, there was online gaming back in the day but the modern age of online video gaming began almost twenty years ago with Xbox Live 1.0.

The origin of paid online.

PrimeVinister1758d ago

Lol it definitely deserves its mention

franwex1758d ago (Edited 1758d ago )

Haha. Yep. To be fair, I feel that it was actually worth it because it kept a good minimum standard. There was horrible lag back in the day and a lot of cheating/hacking. More so than today.

PrimeVinister1758d ago (Edited 1758d ago )

That is arguable seeing as how good similar PC services are these days. The lack of cheaters on console is the closed ecosystem rather than extra effort by MS/Sony

"To be fair, I feel that it was actually worth it because it kept a good minimum standard. There was horrible lag back in the day and a lot of cheating/hacking. More so than today."

The horrible lag back then was due to peole not having the speeds needed to run games, peoples internet speeds were all over the place. Hacking is as bad today, if not worse than back then. People now have access to sophisticated hacking programmes that were nowhere near as prevalent as they are today. Anticheat software was also available way before Xbox Live and the paid online services became a thing.

I gamed online a lot from 1999 onwards and had great times playing without having issues with people cheating and no one had to pay for an online subscription.

Everyone seems to be loving the self-pub route! I think if you can afford it, that's the way to go to maintain control of your creative design.

Ju4729d ago (Edited 4729d ago )

I think that's quite brave from Sony. And a huge shift in philosophy. It's mighty risky as well, but Apple seems to be quite successful with it. Why shouldn't it work on consoles. I hope it will. Cheaper prices and much more variety should be the result. The big pubs will need to adjust sooner or later I guess.

Dead_Cell4729d ago (Edited 4729d ago )

Instead of just buying exclusivity for a developers work Sony seems to be going all out to just make the console enjoyable and easy work for the developers, thus encouraging work to come to them. Smart move. The PS4 is being received entirely differently to how the PS3 was at this point.

Musicians, filmmakers and various other artists have been doing it for years. Its about time indie devs get to step out of the shadows and step into the limelight.

While many indie games have been released in the past, in order to get noticed, they had to offer their games super cheap, or even free to get noticed. Now, with services like Steam and PSN as platforms to showcase their work, they stand a greater chance of actually turning a profit from their hard work.

TrendyGamers4729d ago

It's yet another PS4 F2P that I'll be playing.

doctorstrange4729d ago

Better start saving. Oh wait.

wastedcells4729d ago

Surprised how much free to play is coming to PS4. Something like 2-3 games in the launch window and 2 at launch.

HammadTheBeast4729d ago

Blacklights actually really fun. It's fast paced, but also has a feeling of tactical game play, you can dominate without it being EZ mode, but you'll need skills.

dbjj120884729d ago

Excellent interview. Looking forward to playing this on PS4.

Virtual_Reality4729d ago (Edited 4729d ago )

The game is fun as a F2P. But I've heard it will have 4vs4 battles on PS4 instead 8vs8. Hopefully they increase the cap.

XBLA Shooting Gallery

"So you’re stuck in your dorm room/apartment/house/parent’s house and you have nothing to play. You want to play a shooter but you’re sick of what you’ve got so you peruse the Xbox Live Arcade to find cheap thrills (no not like that…). But there are so many of them. Well to help you in your search for some cheap entertainment I have spent some time getting to know four of these arcade shooters and, like any good friend, I have judged them. And for your reading pleasure I have listed them in order from least favorite to favorite. Enjoy." - Caleb from Leviathyn.com.

I always look at Gotham City Imposers as Team Fortress in Gotham. Yet, I still have yet to buy it. Is it worth it?
