To this day MGS4 is such a great game. This is my first MGS had I basically had no idea about the story, but the emotions, the epic cutscenes, the music felt so immersive and engrossing.

After that day I completed MGS4, I've just said one word.

Wow.

i don't know what's worse, cod fanboys or kojima fanboys. both are utterly overrated and kojima is an absolute hack who is in love with himself. he couldn't plot or narrate himself out of a paper bag yet somehow brainwashed the otakus into believing he's this deep genius. anybody who thinks metal gear has anything more than a meh story has obviously never read a book or has never encountered good fiction.

Those rumors were like friggen cockroaches way back when. They just wouldn't go away. I don't know how many times there were 1000 degree rumors that hit the front page with no legitimate source whatsoever lol.

Love the MGS series, one of my favs, but I was very disappointed in this game. Too much story that was not very interesting, too little gameplay that was closer to gears of war than MGS.

I know from his podcast that Kojima is a huge gears fan, but common this is a sneaking game, and unless you were doing a BBE or no alerts run, sneaking in that game was useless, even on the harder difficulties because of snakes ridiculously over powered arsenal, and just being able to press start and buy ammo. Worst idea ever. So much for procure on site.

MGS series is good but honestly sometimes Kojima screws up the series... MGS2 is the perfect example... kojima killed the MGS series after mgs1.

MGS4 isnt just a game. It's like a movie ( 10 hours of cut scenes)and the cutscenes are boring. I don't like it because of the slow gameplay but when i saw the ending when i was at my friends house i almost confirmed then is crap...

I don't know why, but MGS4 drew me away from the series. I loved the first 3 games, but I just didn't like 4. Maybe its because during the course of 3 (Subsistence) I was gradually growing bored.

This game was a huge disappointment and not as great as many put it. Yeah the graphics and music are great, but everything else falls flat. **Spoilers**

Drebin Points:
This was a terrible addition and made the game very easy. You can purchase ammo whenever you want, even during a boss battle. It didn't force you conserve your ammo. What type of stealth game lets you buy ammo whenever you want?

Bosses were just copies and had no personality:
One of the best things about the MGS series is the boss fights, but MGS4 failed to deliver. While the Rex vs. Ray fight and the last fight were good, the B&B corps were just lame. It felt like I faced them before, and there weas nothing exciting about those battles. Also they had no personality. You knew nothing about them prior to fighting them. After you killed them, Drebin will call you and tell you their life story. It's too late for that.

Lack of diversity:
In MGS2, you had to take photographs, disarm bombs, snipe, escort, etc. MGS3 - different ways to kill your enemies like using poisonous snakes or shooting a beehive, capturing different animals, grabbing Raikov's suit, placing bombs near the shagohod (sp?), escorting near the end, shooting those plastic frogs, having fun killing those scientists, etc. MGS4 didn't really anything like that. Sure you can choose a side and find different paths, but that's about it. All you really had to was go to your destination, and the game will do it for you.

Story - full of plotholes, contradictions and pretty much every plot twist involved nanomachines. Why is Vamp the way he is? Nanomachines. Dialogue suffered from repetition thus making a lot of the cutscenes too drawn out: Person A says something and Person B repeats what person A said. Also the story/dialogue was pretty cheesy. I know MGS games had some cheesy moments, but MGS4 took it to the next level.

Let's not forget Otacon crying over a one-night stand. It was so hilarious, and I didn't buy the romance between the two. Oh and watching Meryl & Akiba fight off the frogs in the last chapter was classic Hollywood cheese.

Zero - I don't why they brought him. Watching Big Boss cut off the oxygen tank on this 100 year old man was pretty awkward. This was more ridiculous than Dante sewing a cross across his chest in Dante's Inferno.

Too many cutscenes:
I know this is a little bit of a lame complain especially coming from someone who enjoys JRPGs and Metal Gear Solid games, but there were way too many cutscenes in this game. There are like 9 hours of cutscenes and only five hours of gameplay. I wouldn't complain about the cutscene length if the story was good, but unfortunately, it wasn't. This is more movie than game.

I bought a used PS3 that came with MGS4 and Uncharted and fell in love with Uncharted. The long cut scenes in MGS4 just ruined the game for me and never got to finish it.

I am going to laugh so hard if rising cutscenes are just as long as MGS4's or longer and there are zero complains by anyone. People please by consistent with your views please because your comment history can be viewed and compared then suddenly your bubbles disappear. But anyways MGS$ is still amazing even today. I will always remember the last boss fight of that game and the event before it.

MGS4 is a great movie with a unique online play. I did not like the idea of making the game appeal to everyone. Meaning is the first MGS game that you can shoot your way through and it was very easy to pass the game because of the ability to purchase ammo or weapons. The story and music of the game is without a doubt pretty good a little editing is all it needed. Is a great game yes but the long long cutscenes ruin the game.

The thing with the MGS series (and almost all action / story driven games, for me) is the replayability. Sure it's epic the first time such and such dies or such and such returns but the 2nd... Not so much. With MGS the gameplay and visuals, are always superb but my main incentive when playing them is to see what happens next in the story, I dunno where i'm going with this but it's just never the same when you have already played through it. Even God of War III which some say is the best intro to a Game ever is not quite as jaw dropping as it was on that first playthrough.

Having said that, I have played through MGS4 more times than the others (except myabe 3), and all that without even touching the online mode (seriously I was on it for miniutes before quitting) = one of the best PS3 games still... Shall never forget that fight at the end of the game.

MGS series as whole is story driven series as such MGS fans love the cutscenes. Gameplay is excllent but we love the custscenes just as much or even more because of the story. With MGS4. Kojima managed to tie up all the loose ends of a series that spans 20 years with the most complex game story plot with number of important cast characters from Snake to big boss to riden to Otcton to Sunny to Namoi to big mama to meryl to Liquid etc etc. This is the reason why MGS4 is greater than MGS3 for me. Yes the gameplay, the boss battles and the tragic story of naked snake was better for most hardcore MGS fans in MGS3 but overall for me personally the experience as a whole was more profound in MGS4. Having to control old snake who has been through hell already from past games and then stumbling and get beaten along MGS4 to going back to the jungle and then back to Shadow Mosses with references from previous games really to me puts MGS4 above all other MGS games.

If we really look at it. It is mind boggling what Kojima has done with MGS4. MGS4 is really is for the fans but Kojima did just enough to make it current and appeal to new gamers while still holding the core.

I don't expect any of new gamers that are addicted to constant gameplay from online game and constant shoot/cover/replenish/shoot gameplay play to understand MGS4.For old gamers like myself that prefer story driven SP games. MGS4 is the ultimate and should be experienced by any other gamer like myself weather you have a PS3 or not.

this game so far is amazing, im on act 5 the beginning of it. really hasn't been a game to me this good this gen as far as single player goes, other than maybe heavenly sword, or the uncharted series.

for the last 5 and a half yrs i been pretty much an online "only gamer" other than a few single player games last gen, online gaming at first to me blew my mind, xbox live. pretty much i still play online, but the ps3 has definetly made me love good single player games more again.

this is the reason why i own a ps3. i play on psn, and i like lbp co-op but the single player games that i have played on this system have wowed me.

if anyone reading this likes stealth/adventure games and has a ps3, this is the game to get now!! especially since it's like what 20 bucks now, be the best 20 bucks you can spend.

The controls are what I hate in this game, perfect game, very bad controls.

I loved MGS4 and I want MGS5 badly or some other IP from Kojima that is similar to the MGS style. Rising feels like a step backwards seeing as it is multiplatform but will probably be a great game, though nothing like MGS4. MGS5 PS3 exclusive could still very much happen with a March 2013 release date. Let's live and hope!

This game is so good, there's no need to even mention the console war in the discussion- as with every other article. The game is fantastic regardless of allegiance. It is definitely the best game ever made in my opinion, everything is sublime, I cannot think of a single way to improve it.

I saw "The Count of Monty Cresto" in the first paragraph and quit reading. If this guy's article isn't worth his own time to Google the title of a classic novel/movie, then it's clearly not worth mine. Anyway, I figured out on my own that MGS4 was fantastic when I bought it two years ago.

This article sucks. The grammar and sentence structure are absolutely terrible, and the writer has a horrible understanding of the plot!

For one thing, THEY WERE NEVER IN FRANCE. They were in EASTERN EUROPE. No France. Nothing about France is even mentioned in the game, unless it was some passing comment I'm forgetting right now.

Next, Snake never, ever, ever, ever, EVER, decides the Patriots are his enemy. The whole point of the game is to stop Liquid so that the Patriots can be PROTECTED. Snake does not want the Patriots to fall, because if they do, the world economy will collapse, leading to chaos. But then, Sunny and Naomi develop FOXALIVE, which destroyed the Patriots' AI, yet allowed basic services to continue.

And besides these major points, we discover in the game that Liquid never actually took over Ocelot, that was a diversionary tactic employed to allow Ocelot to take on the Patriots and install himself as world leader.

Seriously, if you're such a big MGS4 fan, why don't you know these things?

the only isue with mgs4 is they need to add in some kinda trophy patch make it worth playing thu again other then that one of the best games i ever played

If you played the game you would know about all of the installs, and they make like four ps3 reference's. And like 2 ps1 reference's. So that right there is a good reason for it not being possible on the 360. And to tell the truth show me one game on the 360 that has as good as visual's as mgs4. And yea i have a 360 no game come's close to the quality of mgs4/ If you actually played the game you would know these things.

this game is so epiclly awesome that the first time i played it, my tv literally exploded. well the bulb in it. it also got me to upgrade to a new plasma instead of LCD projection.

and simply awed by the game..i've only played MGS1 upto the Hind D battle (after that my game used crash) and playing this was awesome...i'm new to gaming and i don't think the cutscences are an issue though...i'm a huge fan of fiction and i loved the way mgs4 told the story

I personally still find MGS 3 being the best MGS so far, ***IMO***. But I will say MGS 4 was easily one of the best games this gen so far.

It deserved it then, and it deserves it now. Amazing title. If not the best game i have ever had the luxury of playing.

Of course MGS was the first game that formed the series and made it popular. since it goes back before it. easily one of my favorite PS1 game.It was a game you know your going to be nostalgic from in the future with great plot twists and stealth action.

MGS2 as much as most fans of the series consider this one the worst of the series i think it's my favorite. the story is more psychological and Raiden was a breath of air as a new character to enter the series. yes he is no snake but he had his own vibe even being a rookie he and snake make a great duo. this game F**ked with my head a few times especially the ending. even though it may seem centered around Raiden it explains and furthers the series into a deeper storyline

Best Game I've ever played this gen... hands down.

The one on one boss battle with liquid ocelot? Very reminiscent of MGS and MGS: SOL. This game was for the MGS fans. I really wanted to see Solidus. The interactive cut scene with split screen? That was brilliant.

The game looked amazing for an early PS3 game, and still stands up reaaly well. The gameplay was great, the story fantastic as always.

I’m beating a dead horse here… but Resisitance FOM gun lay out was so fun, multiplayer was one of my top favorite experiences. Insomniac nailed it and I would love a remaster and maybe a redo with Reisistance 2. They listens to players who were wanting a Halo killer and it kind of lost its character from the first.

Warhawk, if they had just remade the first one not Starhawk which offered nice things like the build and battle.. but Warhawk was the best arcade shooter I ever played. Back when you didn’t have battle passes and you actually had to get certain amount of kills or ribbons to unlock different paint skins on the Warhawks and armor for your player.. Look at the success of Helldivers 2, it’s a fun game and it reminds me of Warhawk in a way. I’ve been wanting a remake or sequel since the beginning of the ps4 gen.. it’s hurts to have hope nowadays. Even with the demise of the studios Sony has a steady fan base.

Killzone game after Killzone 2 play style would be nice

Motorstorm would be epic with the visual upgrade, maybe this game would be a harder sell with the genre being not as popular nowadays..

Sorry bud, but the PS3 generation was amazing and featured the greatest console comeback in history.

That said, I'd love it if Warhawk returned or Metal Gear Solid 4. It needs to not be shackled to the PS3 generation anymore. A Killzone 2 remake would be insane with modern graphics and that art direction.

I really miss this gen of gaming. It felt like the last truly "great" era for videogames before the modern approach really took hold.

The PS3 was such a glorious console. The UI, the games, the free online...just incredible.

I would pay good money for a Warhawk remake. Socom too. The last Socom game just didn’t do it justice. Folklore could use a remaster or remake as well.
Several other titles I would like to remade with the amount of visual fidelity the current gen has over the past consoles it could help articulate the games that we’ve loved growing up. I would love even some ps2 titles to remade.. Dark Cloud from ps2, Legacy of Kain series but don’t know what will come of it sense it was bought by Embracer group and all there layoffs.

This strategy is exactly what helped ruin Xbox. Sony more than Microsoft know when to let a franchise go and that is important to keep things fresh. The old games are there if you want to play them.

Resistance series and Killzone 2 & 3 remasters/remakes. Make it happen. They will print money.

FF13 is top of this list for me. No matter your opinion on it, it being the only numbered offline FF out of all 16 not to be on new consoles is odd. GTA IV would be great too

The only reason my PS3 is still connected is because of the Resistance, Heavenly Sword, Motorstorm games that I still love to play. I am for remaking or remastering them.
