IGN: Sniper: Ghost Warrior Review

Shooter devotees desperate to find something different this summer might be able to scrape out something of value in Sniper: Ghost Warrior, but even the most hard-up gamer would likely be better served looking backwards toward other, better executed titles from the last few years such as the aforementioned ARMA 2 or Operation: Flashpoint. Hopefully, City Interactive can bring something more fleshed out to the table next time.

Presentation - 6.0
Graphics - 7.5
Sound - 6.5
Gameplay - 5.5
Lasting Appeal - 7.0

I guess the check bounced.

The game is not that bad, or in another sense, the reviewer is complaining about issues that can be experienced in even the most highly rated games. Invisible barriers and small objects that act as obstructions plague many games, including but not limited to Dead Space, Halo 3, Resistance, MGS4, Killzone 2, Gears of War 1&2, Assassin's Creed 1&2, Shadow Complex, Modern Warfare 1&2, Grand Theft Auto IV, Red Faction Guerrilla, Doom 3, Uncharted 1&2 and much more.

It irks me that the reviewer would center his review of the game on something so common. Why didn't any of the games I listed get marked down for it. Invisible walls are there to direct the flowof the game. The player is not supposed to be wander off too far from the action. And it's common for objects to obstruct movement. Again, I've experienced that issue in virtually every game that I mentioned.

Now, the better point that is brought up is the poor acting and the plot. The gameplay, I've seen it, and it's not bad. Again, another reviewer made a video review of the game and praised the the satisfying sniper kills in each mission.

At the very worst, this game is a 6.8 or something. But I would have given it a 7.4.

And I don't even need to mentioned how fucked up the IGN rating system is.

Elven65792d ago

It's really on a case by case basis, some games have moments where such conditions become more apparent and frustrating while others may not or do so to a lesser degree.

And you really aren't helping the games case much by saying things like "I guess the check bounced".

SOAD5792d ago

I was being sarcastic. A lot of people think that IGN gives out good reviews only if the dev or publisher rewards them in some way.

Kerrby5792d ago

IGN are shit reviewers and I'd be happy if they closed up over night.

The rating system is f*cking shit. How can a game score 5/10 when every other category is above 5 and most are 6-7.

What is the word, in your opinion should I buy it? I looked at it at thought about it for a long time, looks like some fun.

I appreciate your comments and would take your word for it.

SOAD5792d ago

If you're a budget gamer then give it a rent. If you have a decent PC, wait for the price to go down (if it's on steam) and get it for real cheap. I personally would not buy it because I'm broke, but I think it's worth playing.

KingKiff5792d ago

I would steam it for sure no way I'm ever paying $110 AUS for a new console game lol, $30 on steam seems reasonable.

RatFuker5792d ago

decent review, ill rent it for my ps3, never know, it might be wayy underrated.

andron5792d ago

Not that it matters. I guess most people will just download it on PC, pretty much dooming any monetary aspirations the devs. and publisher might have...

toaster5792d ago

What? I downloaded it. Cost me 30 buckson Steam. It's a good game but it'll go under the radar and soon will be forgotten because of "professional critics'" reviews like IGN that give it ultra low scores because it's not a shooter that will fit in with the console crowd. On PC it's a very rewarding game and actually takes skill.

andron5792d ago

I meant that the game isn't too good and most people will play this on PC, as that provides the best experience in such a game. And given the varying reviews I also meant that some will pirate the game, making it unlikely that it will be a great success...

N4BmpS5792d ago (Edited 5792d ago )

It's not on the PS3 is it? I only seen listings for 360 and PC. Okay I thought so.

nickjkl5792d ago

ChronoJoe5792d ago

dirthurts5792d ago

Great! It was always disappointing that Lords of the Fallen never got a proper sequel back in the day, so I'm glad the Reboot stirred up enough interest to warrant a sequel this time around.

Advent Rising is another good example. It got panned by critics but it has a good story and I enjoyed playing it. The graphics are dated, the enemies all look the same, but it was made in 2005 so what do you expect? I wish they made the sequel so I could finish the story but I think the critics killed it off.

I don't trust critics.
I'd value more the feedback from a random user.

nommers3070d ago

I seldom trust gamers or critics anymore. A lot of times high scores just mean how likely you are to enjoy something from the game, but rarely anything about how much you would enjoy said things, or whether the highly preferred type of qualities in a game you’re looking for are even in it. My initial gut feeling of the premise of a game is usually all I need.
