The only thing I see, would be that it can reveal ethnicity, and might therefore be misused by racists, etc. But again real id + banning of accounts, should stop that.

Edit: It could be a problem for more or less famous persons though. For those that when you see their name, you instantly known who they are.

I think this is a pretty good idea. There are people who think that revealing their full name on the net is risky, but I don't think there's any particular reason to remain 100% anonymous on the net today. And nearly impossible, too.

What's the point of having a virtual or fantasy profile if you have to use your real name? Pretty much a load of bullsh!t imo. But w/e, I'll make due. It's not like I've made a post on any Blizzard forum for a while. As long as this sort of change isn't implemented in-game... I'll live.

I have mixed feelings about this. Not sure what's the goal of this. Some may see it as a breach of privacy, or forcing you to either accept the terms or not play.

I don't like it. I prefer to at least obfuscate my identity on most gaming boards unless I know people really well... And when I'm trying to game, I tend to not display my gender since there are a lot of assholes around, and it's impossible to fight them all. But as long as this is just for posting there, it really doesn't matter to me, since I don't post there anyways. Just leave the game ids as they are, Blizzard!

if it wasn't for the great games like SC2 and Diablo 3, blizzard would be on my Sh!tlist for life with what they're forcing on us loyal fans...might just put them there anyway.

i was actually just reading an article about something like this. it said web 2.0 was all about social networking, web 3.0 will be about the death of anonymity. i believe it was either china or korea who assigns you a personal pin # and it's tied to everything you do online.

They killed Diablo for me. I am sure someone will make a better game like it without all of the passes and Bs that Blizzard has put into Diablo.
