There's no new that Wii won't stand for long time... I mean, I know it's popular and cheap. But that high interest would just fade away once 'everybody' have one, just like a gaming iPod... And like an iPod, it will have to 'evolve' from time to time for the non-gamers/casuals maintain the interest.

For the majority of the hardcore out there, Wii is no big deal today. But it can be, the controller has all the potential, if it come with a true next gen hardware and once the price is better, Wii could take this guys also. The problem is that looks like hardcores don't like to wait.

So Nintendo has a good strategy, being out there when it can be cheap and popular, to come back to the reality of games and gamers once it can be cheap and popular there too, pretty smart way to come from not so good last two generations... I'll admit that take guts to do this way, cause that strategy needs BigN to moving fast. They can't take too long to introduce a new hardware or the popularity will pass, and good part of the hardcore gamers will be already with 360 or PS3.

grrr this would suck for the people who all ready shelled out for the sd wii. Gives us a 32x like attachment (minus the suck) that gives us hd:)

A HD Wii would only cater more to hardcore first adopters...to bad Nintendo already told them to kiss their a$$ when they decided to only make casual games.

Heck the wii does not even have a good online service or a harddrive...how can people even say it is nextgen or it will get HD graphics?

But at least it has wifi standard something the xbox 360 does not have.

The Wii 2 will not come out till at least 5 years from now.

The wii is locked into the no-gammer or casual gammer crowd...you can only go so far in this crowd...in 1 to 2 years everybody will have a nice HD-Tv and they will never play a Wii on it...only a PS3 or Xbox 360.

You guys are misunderstanding this. All it would take is a slight GPU upgrade to be able to render the games in HD. It would still be the same Gamecube visuals just in HD.... low res textures, low poly counts, lack of effects and all. Same thing as changing the resolution in a PC game.... same game, just clearer and sharper.

The new Nintendo Console will be introduced...probably called something along the lines of...Nintendo Vue...playing off of virtual gameplay! Here's to hoping that happens!

What Pachter doesn't get, though, is, he is predicting a complete new machine - with the same trouble the 360 and PS3 have this time. They need to emulate the old version. Just to add HD out real quick won't do. THe cpu and gfx chip needs to upgrade to a whole new level. Scaling isn't really a simple thing (like using what you have, but just making it a bit faster). Current gen Wii is simply to slow to drive a 720p/1080p game, and being competitive. Also, if they really gonna do it this would be one of the shortest live cycles of a console ever. Not the reason why you are in the console business in the first place. But, heck, they made a sh*tload of money with the Wii already. They could probably afford it (except all game studios would be pissed, because they have to upgrade all their development tools again within that short amount of time - and split their target audience in half, because Wii-HD title will not run on the Wii-One).

Predictions without research and data are worthless. I wouldn't get too excited over any idea of an upgraded (next-gen) Wii in 2-3 years. The system will be in its prime by then and it would make no sense to undermine its success with an overhauled model.

However, I would expect a new model to show if the system begins a reversal of popularity and sales begin to rapidly decline. But in my opinion, I don't see that happening within the next 2 years.

Like someone said above, Pachter is a guy who likes to make predictions and they aren't always well thought out. I think this time he didn't think hard enough to make a worthy prediction.

Lastly, ElementX, one douchebag with a couple of active user names shouldn't be anyone to worry about. Everyone that's been here a while knows what type of comments you leave and I've never read anything like what this dink is accusing you of. So keep commenting and don't let these futtbuckers get you down.

Same reason why they put USB cables to extend the cable of your 360gamepad( while its a normal usb cable extender that you could get in almost every computer hardware store) in the 360 section in a box saying : FOR 360.( one of the things that i noticed while i was shopping) like Nintendo is making their own routers thats " for the wii" but infact its just a nother router on the market, its just so that consumers know it will work with your Wii.

as long they keep it simple for the consumer its all good.
