Analyst: 'High Definition Wii could be introduced'

"Consumers may hope for improved graphics, and my guess is that Nintendo will comply," said analyst Michael Pachter in an email to GamePro.

"In two or three years, commodity prices for graphics processors and CPUs may decline to the point that a High Definition Wii could be introduced. If so, Nintendo will likely introduce one," he added.

This could be good and bad. Moving to HD is nice because everthing looks better in HD but people that already have a Wii would be pissed. They have already talked about adding DVD but that is not a big deal since people already have DVD. However the Wiis that have already sold would be inferior in a very noticible fashion.

If the graphics are bad themselves, hd will only highlight the flaws. Wii hd will look terrible.

Nice avatar. I agree with you. My concern is how much would this thing be? They would also need to increase the size of the Wii for a new processor and a new graphix card. They will not be able to pull it off by just adding a new drive. I see that Nintendo wants a peice of the HD pie, and with their rising popularity, would probably take a chunk, but I think it is going to screw them up for having two sku's that are not even remotely similar. This is not an XBox type of situation (like a hard drive add on). This is a completely different system.

@ MeatHead :

Completely agree. Dude, thanx for the pic. Awesome.

The Real Joker6875d ago

Agreed. It would be a completely different beast which would create confusion on the consumers part. They could not go the route with a new processor or gpu becasue the difference in games. Imagine game x only works with wii x or game y only works with wii y and so forth. Anyway here is a good avatar to go with your name.

I really doubt they would need to increase the size. They could have easily crammed HD in when they designed the Wii. But keeping pricing down wouldn't allow that. This will be easily possible in 2-3 years like he mentioned.

The same guy who predicted a $50-70 price cut for all Xbox models at E3.

He sure makes a lot of predictons.

ElementX6875d ago

I'm sure there will be more than the $50, $30, and $20 cut shown in CC ad.

Your behavior is stupid. He looks like a nice young man to me(I'm not gay) and he has the courage to show his real face so shut up and see bubbles vanish.

if the Nintendo Wii comes out with HD graphics will it then be considerd to be in the Nextgen war

Close_Second6875d ago

...the next gen Wii will offer more in terms of specs than the current gen Wii.

Regardless of what we all think Nintendo have certainly pulled one out of the hat with the Wii. And now that they have millions of loyal followers they will probably upgrade to the next gen Wii at some stage. Just like PS2 owners are (potentially) hanging out for a cheaper PS3.

look at Elementx's avatar it looks like his tired of you telling him his face is stupid

Crazy to think the WII is to the Switch 2, as the NES was to the WII back then. 20 Year difference.

My wife asks me to bust it out (heh) everyone once in a while to play bowling and tennis with the kids. There was a ton of slop on it but some good stuff as well.

Smellsforfree34d ago

Wii was great but boy howdy did it cause Microsoft to go on a dark walk with the Kinect and the disastrous XBox One launch that they arguably never recovered from.

Loktai34d ago

Not nostalgic for me.. I was there.. anyone who wasnt a little kid realized it was a gamecube with shit tacked onto it, it was the "joke" system and was well below even the switch in terms of comparing it to the latest machines at the time. The machine was well loved by young people and "casual gamers" who now remember it 20 years on, or in most cases more of its sales came in the 15-20 years ago range not right at launch- but again its not nostalgic for people who were "gamers" then really, just for those who ended up with one in their house, the games , graphics, interface and online features were archaic already in 2006.
