Didn't they say they'd add more things? Aren't people getting free games? Discounted prices? How long has it been out? Seriously an article like this I'd expect a few months later not this soon. Plus this was never seen as the answer to PSN. Most people already saw PSN as being the answer in and of itself being that you can play online without having to pay [which most people scream it seems].

Rome was not built in a day and therefore Playstation plus will not be great in a day.

The_Zeitgeist5804d ago

I hear your point. But you have to agree with me that they should have offered better stuff than this for the launch. People see this and most are like, "meh".

Myst5804d ago

I agree the first day isn't great, heck first day of almost anything online related was never great. This is no exception. They are more than likely testing the water with various things to see what sells more despite what people ask for. As sometimes the case of asking for it people may not buy it, therefore test with variety and pin-point what will sell.

And if anyone replies I won't say anything about Cross chat :p.

Philaroni5804d ago

It all depends, its very rare for anything to have an amazing launch line up. Even when XBL first started the only game that supported it was the first Mechassalut. Then over the years it became what it is now. People though XBL was crazy and going to fail as well keep in mind. I like what PS+ is doing so far being more of a content vs feature driven service, at, least for now. Also its is very much an option at this point so I see no need for people to really comment on how well or bad they think it will do as if you do not have it, what dose it matter to you?

Qui-Gon Jim5803d ago

You don't just get this month's stuff, you get that, then every month you get more, and you get to keep all of it for as long as your subscription is going. For the last month of a one year subscription, you could conceivably have 48 free games on your hard drive, a bunch of themes and avatars, plus have gotten discounts on more. Then you can renew and get more.

barom5803d ago (Edited 5803d ago )

Didn't they say this about the Playstation 3? And then Playstation Network? And then Playstation Home?

Can't say these "<insert something> will fail" articles have been right on any occasion.

playnation5803d ago

you sr. are a fanboy and should stop writing articles.
you are just saying what you think, not facts and that's called a comment and for comments this is the area, thanks. ;)

I agree, they did say they will add more content later on. It already pays for itself for PS3 new owners. People always have higher expectations with Sony seeing as their other consoles were successful, so they are disappointed when day 1 of PSN plus doesn't deliver what they wan't. Just takes time though, it's not like there is a drought of games on the system

Biggunz5803d ago

Typical examiner "news article". I liked this part: "There are no dedicated servers for a better online gaming experience."...Does this clown believe that Live offers dedicated gaming servers?

Luzce5803d ago

Why get all worked up about another non-article? Who cares what this non-reporter has to say anyways?

But yeah... I'll keep my free online gaming. THX!

Myst5804d ago

I just noticed something I said this was never seen to to be the answer to PSN when I meant XBL :p.

vhero5803d ago

Doomed to fail lol half my friends list has it already I would say that's a big success not even half my 360 friends list on 360 are gold members. Sure its new so they are gonna try it but.. Wait I am not gonna repeat myself to why its great value. Sick of doing so we all know if MS added online gaming to Xbox Live Silver package which is free nobody would buy gold. That is why Playstation plus is better I don't have to give reasons. Take away online play from Xbox live gold and its a nothing service. They don't even compare in terms of value.. Nobody would pay £50 a year for cross game chat alone..

Alex Kidd5803d ago

Its impossible for it to fail! its taken nothing away

Raz5803d ago

Nuri's nailed it. They're just getting it online - all the bells and whistles will be added later. This is Sony's M.O; look at how they approached Home, for example.

That isn't to say I think it's going to be an XBL killer - I'm highly skeptical about the viability of PSPlus, but even I know not to expect too much too soon.

nycredude5803d ago

Why the fuck do I need god to help me as a ps3 owner? This is not release to combat Live only fantards think this. This is merely a service that is optional for those who want. If you don't pay for it guess what nothing changes. Examiner is grasping for Straws. Besides I see alot of people on my friends list that bought in and I am willing to bet that by this time next year most will have it. As proof by xbox live people will pay for extra service and seem case just to play online.

irepbtown5803d ago

I agree, but if for example i pay 90 day Playstation Plus, and not enough stuff have been out, then i will complain.
But yeah, it is too soon to say. I might get it next year, by then i think it will be HOT HOT HOT.

Looks like PlayStation took a hit with Marathon and is now quietly adjusting prices worldwide to recover the losses

andy8525d ago

Lets be honest raising prices doesn't do that when no one's buying it. I imagine the profit it greater selling 10 times more at a lower price

Pergele24d ago

Whatever you say buddy, let's all wear the tinfoil hats.

IceKoldKilla24d ago (Edited 24d ago )

LMFAO Your comment alone says a lot more about you than anything else. When has one game not selling 10 million copies made a company raise the prices of their console? Then Xbox would be costing $5000 by now lol. You remind of the crazy drug addicts on the street rambling on about conspiracies. xD You sure you don't need a hug, buddy?

ChunkyMonk24d ago

One game that Sony payed $200 million for. lol
Also, you sure were quick to get triggered. Maybe your the one who needs a hug?

Eonjay24d ago

If nothing else, we should be united against the real issue here. AI and unnecessary tariffs that are effecting all gamers.

Athlon10125d ago (Edited 25d ago )

The price increases are due to the RAM demand associated with AI and the US-Iran war. You can look to any business news website and local news to see that. Heck, even the 2026 Asus Zenbook Duo I've been eyeing has faced delays and has had a price increase of $400; that laptop has two specs. Asus is doing a staggered release with per-orders for the lower spec now and shipping in May and pre-orders for the higher spec that I'm eyeing starting in June. Basically, all computer manufactures are affected. It'll most likely start affecting smart phones too if it hasn't already. I can't remember the last time any major console maker (Nintendo, Sony, Sega, etc) increased the price of their console mid cycle outside of Microsoft just to make more profit.

S2Killinit24d ago

Its not the war. Its the RAM issue.

jznrpg24d ago

War is causing gas prices to rise. Transport of everything requires gas so the prices of those items go up as well. So it does have an impact

Athlon10124d ago (Edited 24d ago )

The blockage of the Straight of Hormuz due to the US-Iran war has affected raw components used in semi-conductor manufacturing such as bromine, aluminum, and helium. Iran had attacked the liquified natural gas (LNG) plant in Qatar which is a large producer (1/3 globally) of helium which is used in semiconductor etching. So it's the both the war and the RAM crises.

badz14924d ago

Oh no...should I get the Pro now before the price increase?

I dont think that'll ever happen. But i must say back in the day, they were definitely trying because they were more cash rich than their competitors.

CosmicTurtle37d ago

I think MS were and still are the richer company. They tried to acquire Sega back in the day (and considered doing so again more recently), they obviously bought exclusivity to Halo which was originally shown as a Mac title. I don’t think as a company MS can claim the moral high ground here. It’s a wilful lack of self awareness.

Of course Sony would try exactly the same if they had the resources, but when the PS2 dominated the industry was in a much healthier place with an abundance of great third parties.

This has been a depressing generation as far as first party decisions are concerned. The fact we are debating business plans rather than which game is better is a sad reflection of the state of things.

Darkseeker38d ago (Edited 38d ago )

There was Nintendo as well, Sony wouldn't have had a monopoly. In fact, the world would be better today if Xbox never existed in the first place. They pretty much brought all bad practices we have today. We might have gotten all of it either way, but not this early. In term of franchises, I don't think there is anything Microsoft released that would actually be missed if it didn't exist. Even Halo the world wouldn't notice if Halo didn't exist.

S2Killinit37d ago

MS was definitely a bad influence on gaming.

raWfodog38d ago

I think almost everyone will agree that a monopoly is not good for the industry. But that being said, the competition needs to be smart and strategic with their business. Simply buying up publishers and traditional third-party studios just to keep them out of the other companies reach is not a sustainable practice. That goes for all parties so don't think I'm just referring to Xbox.

I'm no business guru by any stretch of the imagination but I firmly believe that the best way to drive consumers to your software and hardware is to invest smart in your first-party studios. Give them full support and guidance in making unique, fun games that are only available to play in your ecosystem and the gamers will come.

Reaper22_38d ago (Edited 38d ago )

But first party studios aren't enough. They only make up a small portion of the industry. Without 3rd party there would be no industry for Microsoft or sony.Developing games take time and money and sometimes you gotta make moves to stay competitive.

raWfodog38d ago

Nah, I never said first-party was enough. I said it’s the ‘best way’ to drive gamers to your platform. 3rd-party is a free-for-all and there’s no guarantee that gamers will use your hardware to play the game. If you want to push your own software and/or hardware you need first-party, or at least exclusive deals with third-party studios.

SimpleDad38d ago

They Shure did a great job... 25 years later Xbox is dead.

Reaper22_38d ago

Then why be so emotional and continue to talk about it. Xbox will never die be ause it stays in so many people's head.

lodossrage38d ago

How can you even see him being "emotional" in that comment?

If anything, you're the emotional one, constantly trying to go at anyone that says anything against Microsoft. So when you call him emotional, it comes off as deflection

Elda37d ago

I own an XBSX & I can say it's becoming irrelevant out of the 3 current consoles.
