Is the "Gamespot boycott" working?

Helium: Gamers, as well as other other members of the on-line community, tend to forget that the Internet acts as a soapbox and megaphone set. It is true that when Jeff Gerstmann was fired that he had just given Kane & Lynch: Dead Men a fair but heavily critiqued review just as the game was being massively advertised on Gamespot, however there are always at least three sides to every story.

There was a boycott on them? I seriously didn't know...

-Mezzo-5802d ago

Same here, i never realized there was a boycott of Gamestop, up until now.

None of you heard of the whole Jeff Gerstmann debacle?

Ugh

Theonik5802d ago (Edited 5802d ago )

I heard about the thing that happened but i never heard about a boycott. Oh well i don't visit gamespot often anyway anymore.
That is one of the reasons i don't trust review scores any more though.

Eamon5802d ago

I remember this from way back.

Pretty funny how the site got caught out with the bribes.

I've never used gamespot anyway.

The Jeff Gerstmann debacle was not well-publicized, unsurprisingly.

However, Jeff and some of the other guys from Gamespot went on to found Giantbomb, another excellent video game website (with a very active and supportive community to boot). Definitely check it out (their videos are awesome).

I just checked out Giantbomb the other day after hearing the dude on the Gametrailers bonus round. Pretty good site.

Gamespot on the other hand is relatively weak on many fronts and it didn't really make sense to me when there was an article here a few weeks ago about how they were the #1 most visited game site again, overtaking IGN.

DelbertGrady5802d ago

I remember Gerstmanngate, as they called it :)

Lucreto5802d ago

There is a Boycott?

They sure kept it quiet.

Awookie5802d ago (Edited 5802d ago )

It was pretty huge at the time, a reviewer getting fired for giving low scores to a game that had an advertising partnership. It shed light on the weight i gave review scores pretty depressing corporation driven world to be honest.

grashopper5802d ago

Must have posted their boycott on the GameSpot forums. ;) Haven't been there in a while.
Actually giving me the urge to go to GameSpot...

CountDracula5802d ago (Edited 5802d ago )

Wah?

Who's the nuclear physicist that decided to start this boycott?
