Wow, dungeon fighter actually looks really fun. I might have to give it a look. Same goes for this company Nexon. I'll keep an eye out for them.

I downloaded it last night based on an article here, it's a lot of fun. They do a really good job of merging the old school Streets of Rage/Final Fight beat-em-up gameplay with an MMO. I'm not a big fan of microtransactions, though. I would honestly rather pay a monthly fee and have access to everything, rather than pay for everything individually and end up spending 10 times more to get everything than you would had you been paying monthly fees and gotten everything on your own. I'm sick of this mindset that every pay to play MMO HAS to be $15 a month. Why can't they make it $5 or $3, especially for a game like Dungeon Fighter. I would much rather pay a flat fee and than pay a fee for one specific item, that makes me feel weird. It seems like a LOT of people are playing that game for free. In fact, out of the hundreds of people I saw playing over the last two days on my server, only 2 of them have noticeably spent any money on the game. Everyone else looks the same, as the only thing that changes after getting different gear is the look of your weapon. The only way to change your character's looks is to pay, which is good in a way since cosmetic stuff doesn't break the game, but it's bad for free players cause they all look the same and boring. Fortunately with that game, pretty much everything can be soloed so you can play the game single player except for the towns.

Free to play games definitely seem to be one way in which MMOs, and online gaming in general, is moving quite successfully. I've seen the benefits of various subscription-free models myself, and even the "dreaded" pay-for-perks system is not nearly as terrifying as a lot of gamers seem to imagine it is.
