Sony: Nintendo Shouldn't Bash 3D Glasses

Sony wasn't thrilled about Nintendo's E3 2010 press conference where it continually reiterated its "no more glasses" messaging for the 3DS

Godmars2905797d ago

But you did.

Sony: suck it up.

Silly gameAr5797d ago

I missed that article. What did Sony say?

Silly gameAr5797d ago

ummmm... Thanks for sitting me straight there nick. My tiny brain no think good. :)

Corepred45797d ago

wow greenring that is the first non trolling thing i think i've ever read from you. amazing. but of course it's something against sony right? lol anything but sony right? dang man i swear, sony must have killed your father and raped your mother.

Nitrowolf25797d ago (Edited 5797d ago )

i don't see them anywhere bashing it.
All what they said and this was to Nintendo that they should have a broader perspective with 3D. Why would they bash the 3DS and then go out and say that they want to work with Nintendo on promoting 3D.
I hardly think if someone wanted to work with another they would start it out with bashing the other product.
He says that both glasses and Non glasses will offer the same experience even though he hasn't tried the 3DS yet (see that's how you do it, take note crysis devs)

@Below

Shuhei Yoshida is President of Sony's Worldwide Studios
This man Speaks for his company

nickjkl5797d ago (Edited 5797d ago )

im appalled by how stupid people are

the way people on n4g talk when it comes to company is as if every single person their has one brain and says the same tings to every question

sony doesnt say anything

people that work for company say things and each person has ther own opnion of what they think

Nitrowolf25797d ago (Edited 5797d ago )

sorry my edited button ran out and i accidenty hit update

continue

i can see why people would say Sony is doing the talk, when he has such a high position over there.

@below

i can see why that can be taken like that
the way i see it "at present there are limitations" meaning that it will improve over time. He hasn't seen the 3DS but that doesn't mean he hasn't seen tech that uses no glasses.
then again yes he hasn't seen it, so he is kind of assuming its like the stuff he had seen

hoops5797d ago (Edited 5797d ago )

http://www.slashgear.com/ni...

"“Based off internally conducted research,” the executive said, “naked-eye 3D for portables does not have high precision, and at present there are limitations.” Claiming not to have seen the 3DS in person, he declined to comment on the Nintendo system specifically, though his comments do imply that Sony themselves have considered – and discounted – using glasses-free 3D panels for some future version of the PSP."

I dont know if this qualifies as "bashing" but the irony here is Kaz Hirai never even saw the 3DS in action to make that claim. It's more ignorance then bashing if you ask me. Either way, these are competing companies for our money and they will not praise each other in general. So why is everyone shocked here? lol

RememberThe3575797d ago

"but the irony here is Kaz Hirai never even saw the 3DS in action to make that claim."

"he declined to comment on the Nintendo system specifically"

kws10655797d ago (Edited 5797d ago )

3D of 3DS is inferior version. What's wrong with Nintendo bashing on glasses 3D is Nintendo says as if 3D of 3DS is just like glasses 3D, or the other way around. They need glasses to be accurate 3D, and Nintendo choose inferior 3D in order to make up affordable cost and not to use glasses.

But you know what? Most of people will think 3D of 3DS is just as good as 3D TV but only small size, and that's what SCE is afraid of from Nintendo's commercial plan.

gcolley5797d ago

being a portable one player device they can do away with the glasses and reduce the required viewing angle. the 3D will be just as good as glasses. it is actually the only limitation. there are 3D commercial monitors on the market that work the exact same way, but with eye tracking. this of course would double the price of the 3DS and not really required.

onanie5797d ago (Edited 5797d ago )

sorry, wrong post

Marceles5797d ago

From my understand I thought Sony actually gave the 3DS credit and said it proves 3D is going to be relevant in the future.

RememberThe3575797d ago

Hoops' link isn't a bash and the last thing I read was about Sony saying that the 3DS is a good way to get people more comfortable with a smaller 3D experience.

HolyOrangeCows5797d ago

At least glasses aren't as bad as a Virtual Boy.

IdleLeeSiuLung5797d ago

"If you really want a big theater experience, of course you have to wear glasses," he said. "With the latest technology, the glasses are light and you kind of forget you're wearing them after awhile."

Really? Cuz I didn't!

Biggest5797d ago

But you didn't because you enjoy hating everything Sony related. I hate glasses of all types. I live in San Diego and don't own sunglasses because of how much they annoy me. But I can say that watching 3D at the theater is not such a bad deal. But I won't be wearing glasses to play games. I max out at 2 hours.

onanie5797d ago

I did.

And while at times I'm aware of them, I did not find them uncomfortable.

Danja5797d ago

i could careless about what Sony or Ninty wanna say they better just make sure there 3D tech lives up to expectations cuz im on the 3D bandwagon

Dac2u5797d ago

They didn't really "bash" the 3DS, but made a comment on the tech. I love the Kevin Butler video from the future and his comment about how you box on the Wii. I think this was Nintendo's way of getting even for that video. I also think it's a good thing, as it may help further the glasses-less 3d tech.

MariaHelFutura5797d ago

The tech Sony and Nintendo are working on is different, I hope they both succeed.

Nitrowolf25797d ago

yes they are different tech
but according to Sony they both offer the same experience.
I too hope that they succeed, i am very hyped for 3DS and 3D tv

sikbeta5797d ago (Edited 5797d ago )

Technically both offer the same experience based on their own specs, as I said, 3DS glassless tech CAN'T be applied in Bigger Displays cos it only Works with One Person per Display and you need to stay in front of the Display in the same spot and literally you can't move, so using this tech on Bigger Displays is a Waste of Time and Money for Electronic Manufacturers, leave alone Consumers...

@Mods

Instead of take out some bubbles for saying [DµMB], why don't you guys check the "comments" of the guy that was "affected" by my savage post....

shoddy5797d ago

It's like a lamborgini and Kia again.
Everyone know Sony is first class and nintendo is the kid class.

Sheikh Yerbouti5797d ago (Edited 5797d ago )

3D glasses do suck, especially when you already wear glasses. But at least everything is not red and green.

I'm sure Sony knows about the tech the 3DS uses, as other companies are exploring its uses. It's cool Sony sees 3DS favorably as part of a greater movement.

jjesso19935797d ago

why you disagree i dont know contacts change my life when i had glasses 3d movies where horrible i couldnt play most sports i like like rugby or football. theres also lot cheaper than buying glasses for me.

Sheikh Yerbouti5797d ago

I wear hard contacts and they are uncomfortable. I can afford to buy them, but I only wear them when I'm on a date or special occasion - something under 3-4 hours.

I wore prescription goggles in sports. Don't have to worry about those getting lost on the grid iron.

Darkfocus5797d ago

contacts are more uncomfortable than wearing glasses over my glasses for me.

SeanRL5797d ago

Anyone remember when n4g had a zone for people who weren'nt fanboys, and when it didn't get spammed with stupid articles and people advertising? I miss the old n4g, I thought there were too many trolls back then, but now I realize it could get much worse.

Nitrowolf25797d ago

i miss having two zones, it helps keep the place more clean

SeanRL5797d ago

ya, they should put that back in.

sikbeta5797d ago

Don't complain, at least both of you didn't lost a bubble for writing the Word [DµMB] next to the Word [TRøLL] to a guy that was actually Trølling and ironically his post was Hiden and labeled as "Trølling", lol The Mod agreed with me...Pure Comedy...

gcolley5797d ago

what do you expect when you mix adults with children on forums.

happyface5797d ago

gaming with glasses is lawl

sorry sony

RememberThe3575797d ago (Edited 5797d ago )

Sorry, but I have no idea what "lawl" means.

Looks like PlayStation took a hit with Marathon and is now quietly adjusting prices worldwide to recover the losses

andy8517d ago

Lets be honest raising prices doesn't do that when no one's buying it. I imagine the profit it greater selling 10 times more at a lower price

Pergele17d ago

Whatever you say buddy, let's all wear the tinfoil hats.

IceKoldKilla17d ago (Edited 17d ago )

LMFAO Your comment alone says a lot more about you than anything else. When has one game not selling 10 million copies made a company raise the prices of their console? Then Xbox would be costing $5000 by now lol. You remind of the crazy drug addicts on the street rambling on about conspiracies. xD You sure you don't need a hug, buddy?

ChunkyMonk17d ago

One game that Sony payed $200 million for. lol
Also, you sure were quick to get triggered. Maybe your the one who needs a hug?

Eonjay17d ago

If nothing else, we should be united against the real issue here. AI and unnecessary tariffs that are effecting all gamers.

Athlon10117d ago (Edited 17d ago )

The price increases are due to the RAM demand associated with AI and the US-Iran war. You can look to any business news website and local news to see that. Heck, even the 2026 Asus Zenbook Duo I've been eyeing has faced delays and has had a price increase of $400; that laptop has two specs. Asus is doing a staggered release with per-orders for the lower spec now and shipping in May and pre-orders for the higher spec that I'm eyeing starting in June. Basically, all computer manufactures are affected. It'll most likely start affecting smart phones too if it hasn't already. I can't remember the last time any major console maker (Nintendo, Sony, Sega, etc) increased the price of their console mid cycle outside of Microsoft just to make more profit.

S2Killinit16d ago

Its not the war. Its the RAM issue.

jznrpg16d ago

War is causing gas prices to rise. Transport of everything requires gas so the prices of those items go up as well. So it does have an impact

Athlon10116d ago (Edited 16d ago )

The blockage of the Straight of Hormuz due to the US-Iran war has affected raw components used in semi-conductor manufacturing such as bromine, aluminum, and helium. Iran had attacked the liquified natural gas (LNG) plant in Qatar which is a large producer (1/3 globally) of helium which is used in semiconductor etching. So it's the both the war and the RAM crises.

badz14917d ago

Oh no...should I get the Pro now before the price increase?

I dont think that'll ever happen. But i must say back in the day, they were definitely trying because they were more cash rich than their competitors.

CosmicTurtle30d ago

I think MS were and still are the richer company. They tried to acquire Sega back in the day (and considered doing so again more recently), they obviously bought exclusivity to Halo which was originally shown as a Mac title. I don’t think as a company MS can claim the moral high ground here. It’s a wilful lack of self awareness.

Of course Sony would try exactly the same if they had the resources, but when the PS2 dominated the industry was in a much healthier place with an abundance of great third parties.

This has been a depressing generation as far as first party decisions are concerned. The fact we are debating business plans rather than which game is better is a sad reflection of the state of things.

Darkseeker30d ago (Edited 30d ago )

There was Nintendo as well, Sony wouldn't have had a monopoly. In fact, the world would be better today if Xbox never existed in the first place. They pretty much brought all bad practices we have today. We might have gotten all of it either way, but not this early. In term of franchises, I don't think there is anything Microsoft released that would actually be missed if it didn't exist. Even Halo the world wouldn't notice if Halo didn't exist.

S2Killinit30d ago

MS was definitely a bad influence on gaming.

raWfodog30d ago

I think almost everyone will agree that a monopoly is not good for the industry. But that being said, the competition needs to be smart and strategic with their business. Simply buying up publishers and traditional third-party studios just to keep them out of the other companies reach is not a sustainable practice. That goes for all parties so don't think I'm just referring to Xbox.

I'm no business guru by any stretch of the imagination but I firmly believe that the best way to drive consumers to your software and hardware is to invest smart in your first-party studios. Give them full support and guidance in making unique, fun games that are only available to play in your ecosystem and the gamers will come.

Reaper22_30d ago (Edited 30d ago )

But first party studios aren't enough. They only make up a small portion of the industry. Without 3rd party there would be no industry for Microsoft or sony.Developing games take time and money and sometimes you gotta make moves to stay competitive.

raWfodog30d ago

Nah, I never said first-party was enough. I said it’s the ‘best way’ to drive gamers to your platform. 3rd-party is a free-for-all and there’s no guarantee that gamers will use your hardware to play the game. If you want to push your own software and/or hardware you need first-party, or at least exclusive deals with third-party studios.

SimpleDad30d ago

They Shure did a great job... 25 years later Xbox is dead.

Reaper22_30d ago

Then why be so emotional and continue to talk about it. Xbox will never die be ause it stays in so many people's head.

lodossrage30d ago

How can you even see him being "emotional" in that comment?

If anything, you're the emotional one, constantly trying to go at anyone that says anything against Microsoft. So when you call him emotional, it comes off as deflection

Elda30d ago

I own an XBSX & I can say it's becoming irrelevant out of the 3 current consoles.

U.S. patent examiner rejects Nintendo’s summoning characters patent as obvious: non-final ruling

The rejection is non-final (and even when such rejections are labeled as “final”, the process is far from over, given that there can be, at minimum, an appeal to the Federal Circuit).

Good, as they should! A game mechanic like that shouldn't be locked behind a patent, and Nintendo didn't invent it either.

PRIMORDUS42d ago (Edited 42d ago )

Nintendo wants to keep wasting money on bullshit lawsuits, real smart in this economy. They should put that money aside for other game projects. On the other hand, I don't care if they waste it all either, and they are screwed in the future maybe that will teach them a lesson.
