Popular Mechanics: 3D is the new gaming buzzword, but what exactly is it like? Scott Pierce spent some time at this year's E3 conference trying 3D gaming out first-hand. Here are his impressions.

the humble 3DS is more appealing while the hi-def PS3D will cost you hundreds more

and subject to whether you are into portable or console gaming.

It's like comparing Apples to Watermelons.

Sir_Falcon5808d ago

Great analogy, couldnt of put it better myself.

apples to grenades. Apples to oranges or apples to watermelons (as you say) are really both fruits.

myothercar5808d ago (Edited 5808d ago )

the only correct answer. 3D is best on a big screen with realistic graphics. 3D blu-ray's on a 55" screen are going to be mountains superior to hunching over a 3DS for 2 hours alone.

like the wii though, price will probably trump quality.

¿Where is the PC and 3D Vision?

And why this guy didn't compare a 3DTV to use without Glasses? Just including the 3DTV with Glasses for PS3?

beardpapa5808d ago (Edited 5808d ago )

3DTV w/o glasses would result in an even more negative opinion, considering the narrow viewing angle that option has. The only reason why 3DS 3d works so 'well' is because the device is about 10-20 inches away from your face. That's how most people play their 'gameboys' right? I don't recall anyone playing portable 3 feet away and call that optimal.

I wont be getting a 3D tv till the glasses free sets are no more than your branded HD sets are now. I think the 3DS will do well, i'll be getting it eventually. Can't wait to get it hands on. :)

Sprudling5808d ago

Watching 3D with no glasses at a far distance is a very unimpressive experience, and will continue to be so for a very long time. The 3DS works decently since your eyes are so close to the screen, but it's still nowhere near as immersive as the 3D effect you get with active shutter glasses.

You should try the different technologies yourself before you decide. There's good 3D and there's not so good 3D.

HAHAHAHAHA! Why WOULDN'T ur eyes be close to the screen when gaming on a portable gaming console?

Jake3605808d ago

Yeh, i was looking at a Panasonic with glasses (obviously) the other day and it looked brilliant. You get the feeling that without glasses they'll never be able to produce something with equal quality.

Why in fucks name did the designs for the mc make it through the planing stages of development? They are by far the worse thing pokemon have produced.

MeteorPanda3169d ago

but...you customize your own characters now? l dont like that boys neck. holy shit it's about as strong as a twig

Antnee5343169d ago

I understand that, but if you pick a boy you get the worse choices.

MeteorPanda3169d ago

oh for sure. The franchise just shits on the male version more and more per new entry, lol

Antnee5343168d ago

It's so weird being that the player base is 70/30 male you know. You would think that they would give the males a better choice selection.
