The more important question is where did he get this information from?

Montrealien5821d ago

well, the easy answer kigmal is he got the pirated version, myself I am pretty sure that is how he knows. however he may have had access to a review copy and installed it on his hardrive?

eitherway, this is not news, just candy for the playstation fans. They like cheap candy like this.

Conloles5821d ago

Pirated version is out!?

jay25821d ago

@Kigmal From the review copy he installed to his HDD.

MattyF5821d ago

It's from a review code MS sent. The full game file is 3.4GB.

I was expecting larger, but the assets aren't all that "shiny" if you know what I mean. Probably also some good audio compression?

CrAppleton5821d ago

Better be.. or there won't be much of a game there

captain-obvious5821d ago

i hope it got a big city because that sounds small

RockmanII75821d ago

Its the same city from Crackdown 1

morganfell5821d ago

...or bad audio compression...

Montrealien5821d ago (Edited 5821d ago )

it aint how many coloring crayons you have, it what you draw with them that counts.

Montrealien5821d ago (Edited 5821d ago )

hey now, don`t dissagree, bigger is not always better, case in point..

http://www.youtube.com/watc...

@my number one fan below

You are correct maddhatter123, however you can still do better with less, if you don;t understand my coloring crayons analogy, I am sorry about that, but once again, as I have done before...

maddhatter1235821d ago

well it looks terrible and looks to play just as average as the 1st so maybe it does matter how many you have since with more you could do more.

maddhatter1235821d ago

your analogy is irrelevant here because the game is crap so less didn't do better as you say it can.

lzim5821d ago

In one of the articles posted recently on the topic, Ruffian was aiming squarely at performance (online performance), so they would have focused on compressing everything.

But consider that they SHOULD be working on DLC, not Ruffian but that other studio, Proper Games. What they left out of the retail game they'll certainly offer to you at a premium later. This I have no problem with but for a fully priced game which needs PDLC just after it ships (sounds almost like Mass Effect 2).

Queasy5821d ago

Sounds about right. The art assets aren't overwhelming and MS does a good job at compression with the developers they work with.

D4RkNIKON5821d ago (Edited 5821d ago )

Compression is not welcome, I'd like to play the full experience uncompressed please

Scotracer5821d ago

Well you ain't getting it. I don't know of *any* game that isn't compressed in some shape or form.

The Lazy One5821d ago

not compressing data is stupid. There are plenty of lossless compression techniques that would be a waste not to use. Asking for an uncompressed experience is asking for less content.

lzim5821d ago

Not unless you want that on a bluray, or have a massive harddrive and great internet connection.

Neco5125821d ago

Can't wait for this game!

MGRogue20175821d ago (Edited 5821d ago )

... They didn't even fill up the entire disc. =/

That's how I can tell that this sequel lacks content.. or something, Because Crackdown 1 was alot bigger in size, I think 6.8gb somewhere..

Also, If the game has indeed been compressed.. then why would they do that? They've got alot of disk space to work with, you know lol 3.4GB is not the limit of DVD space

blumatt5821d ago

Don't worry that, Crackdown 2 probably is around 7GB. They're just saying the amount MS gives you for $60 is 3.4GB. The rest will be paid dlc. lol I hope that's not the case, but very likely.

T9X695821d ago (Edited 5821d ago )

That's not true. Assassins Creed installed at 6.6GB, where Assassins Creed 2 installed at 5.2GB, and AC2 has far more content and overall the better game than AC1.

Borderlands only used 3.3GB to install and look how big that game was, not including the amount of content.

Sometimes I personally think the 6.8GB installs are used for reserved space rather than what the actual game takes up. I could be wrong though.

EDIT: That's a valid point, I'm just saying just because the game doesn't have a huge install doesn't mean its bad or worse.

Hell look at Fable 2, it was a 6.6GB install and when the platinum version came out, which included 2 DLC's at around 800MB the install was only 6.5GB.

Fallout 3 was a MASSIVE game, and its install is only 5.5GB.

Fight Night Round 3 IMO was a better game than FNR 4, but FNR3 only takes up 3.2GB where FNR4 takes up 4.2GB.

Just Cause 2 is another perfect example. JC2 had much more content and just a better game than the first one. JC2 only took up 4.1GB but the first game took up 5.4GB

I think developers are getting more familiar with the hardware and being able to use a lot less space on the disc but deliver more content.

blumatt5821d ago

But Borderlands has loads of recylced textures and repetitive wastelands. It's not that varied in its environment, like say, Uncharted 2. Sorry that the example happens to be a PS3 exclusive, but you get my point. That's why it used up like 40GB of space. It's easy to have a small file size if you're using the same sprites and textures over and over again. lol

Elven65821d ago

It doesn't matter how small the file size is, in the end it's down to how the engine handles assets.

A larger install size does not equal a better game, Just Cause 2 is one of the, if not the largest console games ever made and its install size is only 4.1GB as stated above.

IHateYouFanboys5820d ago

Just like last generation, games get smaller in file-size, yet bigger and better in-game, as the developers get to know the hardware.

this is how it has always gone. many games last generation had sequels that looked better, played better, and were much bigger and longer than their predecessor, but were significantly smaller in file size. why? because developers get more efficient and compression techniques get better.

and for everyone saying 'uncompressed is better' - no, its not. compression helps in everything from load times to how much can fit on the disc to how good a game can look. compression techniques are so good these days that stuff is uncompressed on the fly and there is no loss in quality.

and like people have been saying, games like Just Cause 2, Oblivion, Fallout, etc are bigger than ANY playstation 3 exclusive, yet they barely even fill HALF a DVD. the only reason PS3 exclusives take up 30-40gb is because sony make them leave stuff uncompressed (hence the HORRIBLE load times in games like Uncharted 2/Killzone 2/MGS4) so they can tell everyone that its 'only possible on blu-ray' and because they all have heaps of FMV.

the original Crackdown has a bigger in-game world than ANY ps3 exclusive btw.

Looking Back to 2010 with Crackdown 2 - Agent of Mayhem

Darren writes: "“XBOX NEEDS EXCLUSIVES!”. Sound familiar? It’s something that has been ringing in my ears since becoming an Xbox gamer nearly 20 years ago. It’s possibly the longest standing and harshest criticism levelled against Microsoft’s console family, and I can’t say I wholly disagree. However, there are some out there which can slip through the net every now and then. But bucking the trend was the original Crackdown, which was not one of them. It shifted a very healthy amount of units as well as drawing in universal praise from critics. A sequel then, would be a no-brainer."

It was basically crackdown 1 with zombies, was fun but corners were cut, solid game though.

Minute Man 7212157d ago

I'm still playing this, activating the beacons is a pain in the ass

IRetrouk2157d ago

Collecting those orbs and upgrading your character were addictive, it was just a shame they played it safe instead of going all out, didnt take anything away from how fun the game is though.

Crackdown 1 was one of the underrated gems of last gen. I loved that game. Crackdown 2 was crackdown 1 with added zombies and gave the map a paint job. Disappointing, but still enjoyed it for what it was with the added wingsuit, toybox mode and 4 player co-op. Crackdown 3 was basically what Crackdown 2 should have been.

2 of the weakest graphical games

b163o12238d ago

Oh come on man, Out of all the games under M$.....really

King_Noctis2238d ago

Free is free. They could have done nothing and no one would have said anything.

So what’s the problem again?

xX-oldboy-Xx2238d ago

Sometimes it's better to do nothing, like in this case.

Or are they buttering people up for an xsx version of Crackdown 3? Re-Cracked perhaps?

King_Noctis2238d ago (Edited 2238d ago )

So let me get this straight, you think they are wrong for giving out free games to gamers?Do they force you to download the game? Are the free games expired after a set amount of time? Do they force people to buy an SX version of the game if it comes out?

You know I have seen many stupid comments over the year on this site, and yours is nearly on the top of that list, no offense.

xX-oldboy-Xx2238d ago

No they're not wrong - have at it. Just not a very worthwhile gesture. The games are old, average at best going by people's comments.

Have a crack mate, don't hold back - you couldn't upset or offend me if you tried.

And if you didn't pick up, the second part of my comment was in jest. But you lit are very defensive about ms and their pro-consumer attitude these days.

Lighten up champ - gonna be a long gen ahead haha

Casepb2239d ago

Crackdown 1 was always free.

isarai2239d ago

Yeah this, grabbed it like two years ago. Wish there was a way to play the X-enhanced version on PC

Stay at home initiative? Not everyone has Gamepass.

Ulf2239d ago

Crackdown 1 was a *great* game.

franwex2239d ago

Crackdown 1 was fun 13 years ago. Somewhat still fun today

Crackdown 2 sucks.

Crackdown 3 is like Crackdown 1, but with better graphics.

Play Crackdown 3. It’s a fun weekend game.

DARK_WOLF2239d ago

Crackdown 3 shouldv never existed. Of all the games microsoft couldve poured money into making they chose this.

Simply as a marketing game to show off their 'cloud' tech. Sure wasnt made for xbox fans but they tried to shove it down our throats for 5 years regardless.

No thanks.

Kribwalker2239d ago

agreed. crackdown 3 was a fun quick romp

Godmars2902239d ago

@DARK_WOLF:
CD3 exists as an attempt to showcase a version of cloud supported gaming. That said version fell apart is besides the point.

hamburgerhill2238d ago

I wish they would have just done a Crackdown 1 remake with extras instead of Crackdown 3. All those years wasted on a game that for me felt like anything but crack down.

Can’t complain about free games

Still hate what happened with Crackdown 3 though
