How Character Names Change the Narrative Experience

Choosing your character's name can have a huge impact on your fundamental experience with a video game.

Redempteur5810d ago

Dunno i left the default name because i want to live through a story ..

The only games when a Character name had any impact was ... suikoden 3 and persona 3/4

Persona because i had so many things to do it wasn't just a story i was following anymore

Suikoden 3 because i was creating a previous legend ( those who've played know )

Otherwise i prefer the regular name ( why change CLOUD name ? There is nothing to do with the characterafter wards aside équipement )

Me, too. Occasionally I'll use my own name, but that's just my ego talking. =)

Almost always use default names except for games where I fully create my characters from scratch.

Mass Effect - N7 DAY 2025

Bioware writes: "Like you, we’ve heard the rumors lately. You’ve made it clear you care deeply about what’s next. So let’s start by setting the record straight: the next Mass Effect game is in development, and EA and BioWare remain committed to telling more stories in this universe."

I expected nothing and I'm still disappointed

Like with Fallout, it's starting to feel studios are using TV / Film adaptations when they have no game info to talk about.

toxic-inferno200d ago

I feel the same way.

I mean, how difficult would it be for them to release SOMETHING of substance? Another short trailer? A couple of proper hints? A short story set during the original trilogy, but focused on fringe characters?

Hopefully they're working so hard on the game that they don't have time. But still, with every passing year and so little to show, the franchise will be slipping further and further from people's minds.

Profchaos199d ago

Yeah agree it's almost a cop out since Dev times are 5 to 10 years just throw out a few seasons instead you get them done in a year

jznrpg200d ago

I still haven’t beat Andromeda. I am waiting for a lull of good games in my backlog

P_Bomb200d ago

So the TV show will take place after the OG trilogy. I wonder which ending they’ll use?

Should’ve just posted a picture of an Elcor saying “regretfully, we have nothing to share.”

Devs stopped making games like Baldur's Gate 'because retailers told us no one wanted to buy them'

Hope writes: "Classic RPGs make up some of the most formative examples of late '90s to early 2000s PC gaming in my memory, but I also remember when they weirdly disappeared. If you loved games like the original Baldur’s Gate, Icewind Dale, or Planescape, and also wondered why we stopped seeing these kinds of titles for a bit there, well it turns out you can blame physical retailers for the decline in Dungeons-and-Dragons-style PC RPGs."

I would have loved to have bought Baldur's Gate 3 if it would have had a physical release (not the censored Japanese release).

Notellin227d ago

Why can't you just buy the physical release? I have an opened one on Xbox and a sealed collector's edition for PS5.

Are you just not capable of searching online?

jznrpg227d ago (Edited 227d ago )

Buy the euro version? That is available to purchase. The North American version was limited and sells for a good amount on eBay.

This shtick is getting old.

anast227d ago

People want to play them. Retailers will sell them. But most dev teams can't make them.

MoneyMadness227d ago

Bear Gate 3 has a lot of nice content, but the game isn't for me.
