Hopefully the quality of 3D games on the PS3 can get better with time as developers learn how to utilize it properly to enrich the gameplay experience. It's disappointing to know it doesn't impress in its present state though.

A lot of people haven't tried this new stereoscopic 3D lark and yet they already have opinions about it. I've tried it. It's very good. I haven't seen games, but I've seen game trailers and CG movies and it's epic, So I basically have the opposite opinion to this journalist. Sure, it will give you a headache after about an hour or two, but the same could be said of Marvel vs Capcom, and it's early days yet.

It's the next standard. End of story. Sony produces Tvs, they own SCE and Columbia Pictures, they've got Samsung, Panasonic, and IBM as resources and Nintendo's glasses-free 3D technology only works with a custom screen - and I don't see Nintendo making their own line of Tvs anytime soon. Sony is in control of what comes next, just like they were with Blu-Ray. 3D is the next thing.

i'll take the word of many big game sites over this one little site and they say it looks incredible saying it is a game changer and even comparing it to avatar. 3D is the future all you haters(360 fanboys the only group not really getting much 3D) can continue living in the past you're just going to have even less impressive games then you do now when it becomes the standard because you will be playing catch up.

That was actually a very well written article and very informative. I have heard this before about the foreground and background being distracting. Look at Jimmy Kimmel he put on those glasses and was immediately confused and died. I think it's the future, they just have to figure what works and what doesn't.

I have heard conflicting feedback with regards to 3D. Some say its the best thing ever others say it simply does not work for them. The best thing to do is test this out for yourself and than make a judgment call. Even the darling of E3 the 3DS has been getting the same kinda feedback from people. I think it comes down to if your eyes are defective in some way you'll not have a great experience with 3D regardless of tech.

After seeing Killzone 3 being a jaggied blurry mess in the press conference video, I'd rather have better quality 2D.

I am not quite sure how does it looks like to see 3D in one of those 3D TVs but no one can stand to watch two 3D movies in a row bc our eyes get extremely tired.

What I think is that atm 3D might be more for ocasional players like those that loves those gadgets (Kinect &wii remotes) over a controlpad or keyboard mouse .

I doubt that a real hardcore PS3 player will preffer to keep using those googles all night long while playing a multiplayer mode in a FPS for exemple.

I have no desire for 3D. Your not gonna be able to play as long as you would without 3D and I have no desire to hurt my eyes over a period of time.

Let you guys be the guinea pigs first to see how long term 3d effects your eyes.

I'm not convinced nor do I care. I just bought a state of the art local dimmer for my PS3 and it is beyond beautiful. No need for 3D here. Heck, stop motion like Nightmare Before or Fantastic Fox already looks 3D. I sure as hell am not going to be wearing glasses for 5 hours straight. I agree with the article. This is all hype.

3D isn't for every game, heck Avatar shown that not every movie can use it so good. Their only some titles on the PS3 that I see 3D being something fun to have.

Is it needed? No but it be nice to choose to play in 3D or not, the glasses are going to get cheaper. Just look at the cost for the LED Tv that does 3D, they are pretty cheap for something new.

60inch Sony Tv that can do 3D is being sell for only 2,700 dollars here where I live, so I would give it more time before saying much about it and judging it on price for the glasses.

The PS3's 3D is phenomenal! Go try it somewhere! As soon as people put those glasses on and press start, they're blown away! Even Fallon was impressed...and he made it painfully obvious that he's never touched a PS3.

To me it seems un fair to compare the two whn the 3DS was designed for #d feature right out of the box. Most everyone that is playing on a console has a tv that wasnt designed with 3D being the main feature. The article was a good read, but reports say that the 3DS makes your eyes tired after a short while. So if the glasses make it easier on my eyes than im all for it.

I'm still confused as to how the 3DS makes 3D that much better. From what I've seen, (Kid Icarus is what I've seen) It just gives that effect where you can rotate around the player 3D, like we saw with that 3D screenshot of Halo Reach before. So i'm not sure what's the hype with the 3DS, if anyone may enlighten me.

Good luck with Gaming in 3D without glasses. The technology is SO POOR it's not very convenient. The 3DS technology requires you to remain at a STATIC distance from the 3D screen in order to view the 3D effect properly, if you shift to either side, back or forth, the 3D effect vanishes and you have to re-adjust yourself, or the slider to compensate.

It's a POOR implementation of the technology, and 3D TV without glasses will never be mainstream. Only 1-2 people will be enjoying the 3D effect while the other people (not at the right angle) will be seeing blurry TV.

Wait until MS joins the 3D, suddenly 3D is a good thing. This journalist got a free 360 slim?

I don't know if 3D is the future, but it really seems to have a different effect depending on the audience : some people have headaches, some people are amazed, some don't even seem to see the effect at all

that sony introduce it now, if they plan to support it heavily. the ps3's 3d may be in its infancy, but if dev's start working out the kinks this gen, then by next gen the 3d will be truly amazing. i dont know why people dont get this.

Why do people hate choices or options? All the PS3 has done is given you options.. You want to watch DVD and Blu Ray? Go ahead pick. You want to use WI FI or not? Go ahead pick.. You want motion control or normal controllers? Go ahead pick. You want to have 3d games? Go ahead..

Its funny how this guy says he doesnt like the 3D on the PS3, when just about every other article ive read about 3D, including IGN, and G4 ect ect, went from skepticism to impressed with what they saw of the tech. Honestly, all this motion controls, 3D features are just going to put more stress on devs and could even delay games or up the prices of them.

3D without glasses is the only way it'll ever take off. They've had the technology for years and they were planning to release it 2-3 years ago, but they wont because they want to make money off of stupid suckers like you people, buying $4000 for a TV and $200 for each pair of glasses while they laugh all the way to the bank, then release the glasses free TVs two months later and laugh when you go buy one of those. The only way we'll get glasses free 3D tvs is if you morons stop being all "3D IS AMAZING MUST GO BUY MY 3RD TV NOW" and stop buying them, which wont happen. I went to a SONY store and played Motorstorm in 3D and it was awesome, the glasses really didnt bother me, but at the same time. I dont see anyone playing games in 3D for hours at a time which many people do.

This guy sounds like he expects too much from 3D. And maybe instead of attacking it he should take more time to see how it does. You don't ever want to test a new technology the way he did. The E3 show floor is the last place to do it. Find a place where it's more like a living room at least. He complained about dark graphics. Maybe that's because of the environment. I don't know about 3D gaming really but I'm not impressed with his report on it.

3d is nothing new. I use to use it on my sega system. I don't known if anyone remembers the crazy electronic shutter glasses for games like sewer shark.

Why would you need a tv that cost 3000$ for HD? Any tv with a refresh rate of 120hz or above can do the job. I bought my tv last year and it has more then 120hz, didn't cost me 3000$, it costed just a little above 1000$.

As for the glasses, any glasses can do. Just go see a movie in 3D, you get free glasses. I got free glasses you can buy in store for 80$.

Also, 3D is awesome. Super Stardust HD is gorgeous in 3D.

KZ3 and all these other recent games are like the alice in wonderland of video games.Everyone has seen that Avatar (which was truly amazing), and now everyone wants to "tack" on 3D. Avatar was filmed in 3D making it so amazing. Alice and wonderland and games like KZ3 have all had 3D added after everything was done.

Maybe when games were made specifically for 3D, it will start catching on.

heres my thing about 3d... i dont want it. its bad enough that im using a bluetooth device or headset plus a controller now 3d glasses. thats to much crap to be using just for gaming.

3D is affordable people. If you haven't realized it yet, you can buy any samsung or mitsubishi dlp tv and it will be 3D ready. that means you can buy a pretty decent 60-65" 3D ready tv for $1000. It won't be lcd but oh well, it still looks good. so check it out and stop buying into the bs that you have to buy a $3k tv to see 3D.

Way too expensive, and playing with glasses is so ridiculous... I remember 3d cinema in the 80's, with glasses. And now, almost 30 years later, we are still supposed to wear those stupids glasses? Sad.

Hopefully, nintendo is here to offer some real new stuff.

and from my experience, it's spectacular. Killzone 3 (even in it's current pre-Alpha stage) looked stunning. I can't wait to see how well it's refined by the time the game launches.

I sat and played Gran Turismo 5 and apart from a slight shimmer effect here and there on some of the textures that also looked great. It changed the game entirely with the ability to really 'see' the corners on the track and openings between cars.

Overall, I got to try (or watch over someone's shoulder) Super Stardust, Wipeout, MLB 10, Sly Cooper, Motorstorm Apocalypse, Killzone and Gran Turismo. Each of them looked great and really made me a believer. Is there room for improvement? Of course there is. This is the first take on the technology and it will only get better in time.

The other thing that Sony stated (and I later confirmed with several developers) is that you're getting two complete versions of the games on one BluRay disc, the 3D version and the 2D version. One won't compromise the other and the 3D will be there waiting for you whenever you get a TV to support it.

And the worst graphics by far, Bayonetta and RDR are proof PS3 hardware is ancient

The advertisement team of Sony must do much better work if they want to convince that ancient tech in PS3 is any good

3D will be the future for gaming.. but not in this gen.

Look how much money it costs Hollywood to make a Movie in 3D.. only big titles get it.

Same goes for gaming... the tech is right now WAY to expensive and the costs are not efficient for devs.
i bet that MS will bring with the next xbox a true 3D experience before SOny will.
