2D Fighting just avoids all the pitfalls of the camera in 3D Fighting games.

Street Fighter gets it right, so the move back to 2D is probably for the best right now while the devs figure out what to do with 3D.

3D fighting games make local multiplayer impossible (or at least very difficult with a split screen). 2D is the best for playing with your friends.

2D for me. I find the pace much faster with 2d fighting games.

jus dont wanna have to wear any glasses for it. if they can somehow use 3ds technology so we didnt have to, it could be cool.

2D keeps it nice and simple. My fav fighting games have all been in 2D. SSFT2, MK3, MVC2 and CVS2.

I like both, but you have to view them as different kinds of games, not to be compared to each other. Since there are both types to buy, it is a non-issue imo.

Fighting games are all about speed, smoothness of response, and twitch reactions. Putting them in current 3D technology interferes with much of that. Maybe someday when it improves.

Perhaps the problem with 3D fighting games is that they just try to change things a little from 2D fighting games. To be successful, they may need to have very different mechanics. They might also need new advances in 3D gaming hardware. GZ

Eventualy will have 3d fighting but they'll be simpler then what play now. As of now, I think the only true 3D fighter will be for microsoft's kinect.

2D is superior, the main reason I don't play Fighter's anymore is because they're all 3D. Now I just play Street Fighter 3rd Strike and hope one day Capcom makes a remastered HD version of it.

2d is better because the hit boxes are more accurate, the gameplay is normally smoother and faster and most of all it gives it personality.

Blazblue proves that 2d is still king when it comes to fighters.

plus i notce 2d games have alot more combo variations, 3d is sorta wierd with that.

sux MVC3 went 3d, but o well 3d fighters are all stiff with the exception of Dead or alive

2D for me. I prefer well crafted sprites too but don't mind a game like MvC3.

I don't play that many fighting games besides SC and MK. Tbh, 3D did horrible things to the MK series.

I disagree that all 3D fighters suck though, imo the Soul Calibur games are head and shoulders above any fighting series I've played in recent years.

2D fighting games seem to have more speed, move faster gameplay Vs 3D. MVC was one of the games that show how good 2D is.

i like both really. Over the top games with powers are generally 2d: Street fighter/ Marvel vs. Capcom

While 3d fighters have their place too: Tekken/DOA/Soul Caliber

i think they should stay where they're at. Variety spice of life and all that.

I'll take KoF for best 2d game this gen, simply cause the game is grounded, it has similarities like Street Fighter, and the story has always been solid.

If Street Fighter goes back to 2D then I will be a happy camper, but I did SSF4.

I think fighting games have always been more about the special moves than having some fancy 3d movement. Look at BlazBlue, for instance. Old school 2d style, but all the special moves are intricate and challenging.

I'd really need to play some of today's fighters before taking sides in this discussion.

2D or 3D, never been a huge fan of the genre. Last fighter I played was probably Soul Calibur on the original Dreamcast (back in '99). Geez.

I'm assuming things have come a long way in 11 years, but back then I'd rather play in 3D than 2D... wasn't a fan of Street Fighter or Mortal Kombat if memory serves.

I agree as well - 2D games have been far more successful.

honestly, it depends, SoulCalibur is great in 3D, but SF4 was by far better the the SF EX series. It's more a franchise thing.
