Against the obvious charms of graphics, game audio still finds itself undervalued and underfunded, with some audio specialists claiming only six per cent of a game's production budget being dedicated to it. And yet audio is on the up and ever evolving. In the wake of the Games Meet Film conference at Pinewood Studios, to discuss the place of music in games and its complicated relationship with film music, Edge caught up with some of the field's leading figures - Sony Creative Services manager Dan Bardino; TV, film and game music composer James Hannigan (credits include Space Hulk, Command And Conquer 4 and Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince); creative manager at audio production specialist Media Mill Jerry Ibbotson; freelance sound designer Alex Joseph; and Ubisoft Reflections audio director Jon Vincent.

Sony announced its financial results for the third quarter of fiscal year 2025, alongside the traditional update on PS5 shipments.
Nintendo Switch 2 is crushing PS5 though and will largely out perform it.
“ In terms of financial figures, net sales for the Game & Network segment (which includes PlayStation and PlayStation Network) were 68.7 billion yen, down 4% year-on-year. This was due to the decrease in hardware sales year-on-year.”
Oof

A new patent registered by Sony suggests the company is exploring the idea of personalized podcasts on PS5, hosted by PlayStation characters.
Okay this is actually really cool too. What is being proposed here is that the AI will generate you a podcast that is focused on the games tht you play or have wihlisted. This means you always get topic relevant to your tastes. Just don't screw it up with a bunch of ads.
This is a terrible idea. Firstly the characters voices originate from real voice work. Secondly, the ai could end up saying questionable things. Thirdly, some voice actors use their regular voice when acting.
I know it's cool to hate AI, but we only hate AI because of idiots that misuse it or exploit it to take away peoples jobs. THIS is a GREAT application of AI, instead of having a human being voice actor sitting there for hours talking in character while having people writing scripts or coming up with topics etc, it can all just get POOFd into thin air and you can enjoy unique and entertaining content that harms no one.
i hate this
i hate all of this. dont just use peoples voices for AI slob that u dont pay for

"Today, I was terminated by Ubisoft," said Michaud-Cromp.
Ubisoft deserves everything that's going on right now. It needs new leadership. The current ones are running Ubisoft into the ground. Meanwhile Tencent is circling them like a vulture. I wouldn't be shocked at a hostile take over in the coming months.
Sounds like something most corpos will do these days. Retaliation is seemingly allowed even if illegal
Didn't suckerpunch do the same because someone made a joke?
Makes me glad I have 0 interest in either companies cames right now tbh
If you don’t control the purse strings, and you think freedom of speech applies to a private company’s, this is where you lose.
Well I am not surprised. Most companies have a code of conduct that prevents employees from publicly making negative comments about the organization.
When times are tough, and the company is looking to lay off people, the best thing to do is to not be the nail that sticks up. He even said something to this degree in the comments that got him fired.
I hope he can land on his feet in the near future and find success doing what he loves doing. I am sure many teams would love to have someone with his experience on board.
