Should PSN Include SOE MMO Access on PS3?

DualShockers writes, "When PSN+ was announced at E3 2010, no one was really shocked by any of the details given, early beta access, possibly some cross-game chat, pretty expected stuff. However, I was not disappointed at the lack of shock value in this announcement. My own personal disappointment lies in a business decision by SONY and Sony Online Entertainment with regards to MMO pricing. The PS3 is the perfect platform for MMOs, but if there are multiple MMOs and they’re charging for all of them, it kind of defeats the purpose of marketing to the same group. I proposed an idea a while back that I sincerely felt SONY could have thought of alone, but it appears that this iceberg is heading towards the PS3 and the MMO demographic is about to smash into it.

First of all, there is a big problem with charging fees for every MMO game on PS3 at once and expecting them all to be successful. Obviously third parties will do whatever they want. Regardless of of...."

Seems to me that this would be a huge benefit to having PSN+ , I would be willing to pay double.

yess5792d ago

It could be very cool, but that means a lot of free content...
Someone have to make a living, and earn money.

Pay double is a bit to much though...

WildArmed5792d ago (Edited 5792d ago )

I agree. (not about paying double, but SOE MMO Access being a great addition to PSN+)
I'd shell out the money next week if this was confirmed.

nnotdead5792d ago

same with me. the monthly fee is the biggest reason i've never gotten into an MMO.

Biggest5792d ago

The nature of MMOs won't allow it. There has to be some kind of income for them to support the game. Though it would be nice, it won't happen.

deafwing5792d ago

This would make all those MMO games, especially Final Fantasy XIV more popular. This would a good move for them but more so for us.

HighDefinition5792d ago

Yes, it would be a great idea.

specialguest5792d ago (Edited 5792d ago )

Don't expect third-party games like FF14 to be covered by PSN Plus, and that's IF PSN Plus covers MMO. The PS3 will get the same treatment with FF14 just as the 360 & PS2 got with FF11.

yes, there should be, not just SOE mmo games, but all MMO games.

its should be part of the PSN+ service.

Hitman07695792d ago

Third parties would never agree to this, but I honor you for trying!

MGRogue20175792d ago (Edited 5792d ago )

... This PSN+ membership thing should really have alot more features..

taz80805792d ago

THis lost Sony some serious points with gamers since they always touted free. Icluding MMO subs would be awesome

JoelT5792d ago

but because of the way MMO's are structured and the upkeep required will keep it at a separate price. Although it is unfortunate.

ruiner44825792d ago

Touted what as free?? PSN is free...

I can't believe I got a bubble taken off for a fucking joke. I posted a video to a rimshot, confirming my comment was a joke, and the mods still insisted I really was trolling....

Yet when two people give me a bubble+, IT NEVER FUCKING SHOWS UP! You mods are idiots. Yeah, I said it. Sue me.

On Topic: Cool. Only reason I'm even replying to the topic is because yet another bubble could be easily taken off for Off Topic-ness.....

Anon73495792d ago

This new bubble system is broken I got mine tooken off for stupid BS.

Looks like PlayStation took a hit with Marathon and is now quietly adjusting prices worldwide to recover the losses

andy855d ago

Lets be honest raising prices doesn't do that when no one's buying it. I imagine the profit it greater selling 10 times more at a lower price

Pergele4d ago

Whatever you say buddy, let's all wear the tinfoil hats.

IceKoldKilla4d ago (Edited 4d ago )

LMFAO Your comment alone says a lot more about you than anything else. When has one game not selling 10 million copies made a company raise the prices of their console? Then Xbox would be costing $5000 by now lol. You remind of the crazy drug addicts on the street rambling on about conspiracies. xD You sure you don't need a hug, buddy?

ChunkyMonk4d ago

One game that Sony payed $200 million for. lol
Also, you sure were quick to get triggered. Maybe your the one who needs a hug?

Eonjay4d ago

If nothing else, we should be united against the real issue here. AI and unnecessary tariffs that are effecting all gamers.

The price increases are due to the RAM demand associated with AI and the US-Iran war. You can look to any business news website and local news to see that. Heck, even the 2026 Asus Zenbook Duo I've been eyeing has faced delays and has had a price increase of $400; that laptop has two specs. Asus is doing a staggered release with per-orders for the lower spec now and shipping in May and pre-orders for the higher spec that I'm eyeing starting in June. Basically, all computer manufactures are affected. It'll most likely start affecting smart phones too if it hasn't already. I can't remember the last time any major console maker (Nintendo, Sony, Sega, etc) increased the price of their console mid cycle outside of Microsoft just to make more profit.

S2Killinit4d ago

Its not the war. Its the RAM issue.

jznrpg4d ago

War is causing gas prices to rise. Transport of everything requires gas so the prices of those items go up as well. So it does have an impact

Athlon1014d ago (Edited 4d ago )

The blockage of the Straight of Hormuz due to the US-Iran war has affected raw components used in semi-conductor manufacturing such as bromine, aluminum, and helium. Iran had attacked the liquified natural gas (LNG) plant in Qatar which is a large producer (1/3 globally) of helium which is used in semiconductor etching. So it's the both the war and the RAM crises.

badz1494d ago

Oh no...should I get the Pro now before the price increase?
