inFamous 2 visuals 'in same ballpark' as Uncharted 2's

Uncharted 2's visuals were stunning - so stunning, in fact, that you'd think it would be impossible for a developer to create an open world game that matched Naughty Dog's effort.

But that's exactly what fellow PS3-exclusive developer Sucker Punch is aiming for with inFamous 2.

Indeed the game, which sees super-powered Cole McGrath parkour his way around the fictional city of New Marais, is being influenced by Naughty Dog's spiffing blockbuster.

"We're getting a lot closer to it - we certainly are - and we've got a ways to go," Sucker Punch development director Chris Zimmerman told VideoGamer.com at E310 last week.

I just wish it's sooner.

I enjoyed Infamous so much, was the first time I put all my time into a single player game, cant wait for number 2.

nveenio5811d ago

I agree. inFamous was my first (and only) platinum.

Gamerbee5811d ago

What about the 'Cole' issue?? Can you address that please!! But am happy about the graphics too. :)

HolyOrangeCows5811d ago

Maybe these screens really were real time then??

JAMurida5811d ago (Edited 5811d ago )

It's nice to see the devs behind Infamous 2 trying to push their game. Even the people at GG said that Uncharted 2 stole their crown in the graphics department and are working on Killzone 3 to take it back. MM is pushing the PS3 with Little Big Planet 2 as well, using technology from other PS3 games. First party devs of Sony pushing each other to reach new levels. And the best thing about it is for us as gamers it means bigger and better games.

Couldn't ask for more...

secksi-killer5811d ago

or are they just writing this crap off of some bullshots? and creating an article just for n4g??

now come on, infamous is a great game, is one of the best new ip's this gen, and is a day one purchase for me. but until i see this game in motion, i personally think that all the screens ive seen so far of this game are touched up bullshots!

please show us some gameplay before writing things like this

PoSTedUP5811d ago (Edited 5811d ago )

hey YALL, i just bought infamous yesterday and am already about to return it. im not trolling either i just had a few questions bfore i return it: is there more to the game then shooting the same people with electricity? and how much better do the missions get? i mean i just started playing, i WANT to like it, but so far its hard for me to. maybe i should just keep playing it for a few more days? so far it started off a little slow and i think i can get a better game for $30 or even 2 decent games for $30

this is an honest question. im not trying to come down hard on the game, i just started playing thats all, maybe it is too early to even think about returning it?

LinuxGuru5811d ago (Edited 5811d ago )

Finish the game, PoSTedUP. You havne't even begun to scratch the surface of the powers and abilities.

@ secksi-killer:

All screens from Infamous 2 are from real-time gameplay.

For example http://www.gamerzines.com/s...

That is real time. Relax buddy, this isn't 2006 or a Microsoft CG ad campaign.

nveenio5811d ago

If you've just started, then your powers haven't even been discovered. Once you unlock everything, it really opens up, and you'll be soaring like an eagle across those rooftops.

PoSTedUP5811d ago

yall are right i just played some more just now and im getting more abilitys and upgrades which are really awesome. defiantly NOT returning.

PoSTedUP5811d ago

yall are right i just played some more just now and im getting more abilitys and upgrades which are really awesome. defiantly NOT returning this game is it awesome.

raztad5811d ago

@PostUP

WTH? You were about to return such a good game without a proper try :(

I beat it twice (Good and bad cole) and the story is pretty good. Dont waste too much time in some repetitive stuff tho, unless you are for the trophies.

"The thing that we've got going for us, like the Uncharted guys, we're Sony only. All we do is games for the PS3, which means that the engine that we're building can be completely tuned and targeted at the PS3 and at the things the PS3 does well."

"We can commit to doing all our systems in a very PS3 specific way. We can write SPU code for everything. As a result, we're able to do more. We're able to take more advantage of the hardware, because it's the only system we have to worry about. Just like Uncharted, we're able to do things that we would never be able to do if we were doing a cross-platform game."

"we moved most of our lighting on the SPUs for this game. So, casting light on the objects was all dynamic for us - completely dynamically lit. We did it on the graphics card, which was the traditional place to do it before. But we could move it to the SPUs, and so we did. And as a result we're able to do more stuff with the graphics chip. We can put more triangles on screen. We can have more detail. We can have more characters. We can have more everything. We were able to do that only because we knew we were going to be doing a PS3 game, and that's all we were going to be worrying about."

so did anyone else notice that these are the same things ps3 owners said to 360 fanboys but they chose to ignore it and said we are just being fanboys. guess we were right making a ps3 exclusive means a game can be better.

@AC130-Gunship
calm down a game should have both gameplay and graphics which uc2 does and infamous 2 has. if you look at uc and infamous you can see they scored about the same. uc2 improved it's grpahics and added new gameplay which helped it get better scores and infamous 2 is doing the same. this article is about graphics not gameplay so if you don't want to hear about them don't click on it.

Morituri5811d ago

Agreed. This is just common sense. When your efforts are focused in one place the results will speak for themselves. Incidently, this will apply to all consoles, the 360 included. When you are playing to a systems unique strengths, this is the natural outcome. Exclusives are the cat's pajamas.

Gene5811d ago (Edited 5811d ago )

Your statement is so true don't know why you have disagrees madhatter.

NecrumSlavery5811d ago (Edited 5811d ago )

Only other game looking to come close to Uncharted's graphics is Rage.

inFamous is looking very good. Very very good. The environment is looking to be one of the best around. It looks so much more diverse this time around. For me inFamous is the best sandbox this gen(With Red Dead trailing close), and I'm ever confident that inFamous 2 will take the mantel next year.

kanetheking5811d ago

boredlands.but looking very better

NecrumSlavery5811d ago

Kane

I am talking about visual caliber of prettiness. I see Rage as a game similiar to B-Lands in style. But that's not the topic on hand.

kanetheking5811d ago

u meant uc is close to rage sorry for the mix up.

hesido5811d ago (Edited 5811d ago )

Now that is the real achievement. Carmack had mentioned Doom4 will be able to sport roughly 3 times the detail of Rage, because it will run at 30fps.

Greyfoxdbz5811d ago

It's called a game. So it's about gameplay and gameplay mechanics. Amongst Thieves blew people away with it's multiplayer mechanics, not it's graphics. You don't think so?, then check out Drakes Fortune. It's obvious to me the people who post this comparison crap every 5 days haven't played Drakes Fortune.

Sucker Punch doesn't need this type of marketing. Their image as a dev camp is rock solid. Infamous was an great game and the changes they're making now are very interesting. The real win would be if the new changes make their game concept that much better. A win that will continue to boost the profile of Sucker Punch and the PS3. This where Infamous 2 is taking us now.

fooltheman5811d ago

uncharted blew everyone away woth is graphics and storytelling... Did you see what kind of awards it got?

dredgewalker5811d ago

I beg to differ, Uncharted 2 gave us great graphics and great single player campaign with a good multiplayer game. What's the whole point of the current gen consoles if they can't look good while having great gameplay?

nveenio5811d ago

Uncharted 2's multiplayer didn't blow ANYONE away. Were people surprised it was so good and not "tacked on"? Yes. But they weren't blown away. What blew them away was the sound design, the unparalleled graphics, fantastic lighting, 80k+ polygon character models, in-engine cutscenes, fantastic gameplay mechanics, unmatched set piece events, the train level, the collapsing building, the tower that crumbles to dust, the voice acting...

I could go on, but I'm sure you get the point. Uncharted was also a great game, but UC2 was 10x better. If inFamous 2 is 10x better, then than the first, then the world might implode with so many fabulous exclusives.

I didn't think it would be this BIG a jump.

It wouldn't matter if it looked exactly the same to the original. Infamous was one of my favorite games released this generation so the sequel was an automatic must buy. This does sweeten the pot though. It can't be released soon enough.

sikbeta5811d ago

I really hope so, Infamous 2 is Day One Purchase...

MNicholas5811d ago (Edited 5811d ago )

http://www.youtube.com/watc...

The level of detail was already very impressive. High polygon character models, high quality textures, tons of shader effects, post processing, etc...

raztad5811d ago

Totally agree. inFAMOUS sported very high res textures and the lightning ws really good. Just a fraction of the stuff happening on screen would make stutter any other game with similar level of detail.

inFAMOUS real con was the abundance of jaggies and that is granted to be a non-issue in the sequel with MLAA.

himdeel5811d ago (Edited 5811d ago )

...and with MLAA inFAMOUS 2 will and so far from the screen shots looks great. inFAMOUS is my favorite open world game and part 2 looks to take the crown from the original for me. I cannot wait to get my hands on a demo of part 2 and hope it's equally as long as the demo from part 1.

badz1495811d ago

I don't really care because the 1st is not the most beautiful game in existence but I still love it as much as the like of Uncharted2, GoW3 etc... for inFAMOUS, what I really care about is the story! beautiful graphics? maybe just to sweeten the deal!

dam i want it now

DA_SHREDDER5811d ago

As it should be none the less. Infamous 1 was made from C++. The new engine they are making this game should be lightyears ahead of what they have previously done as they have stated since the first one released. Besides the new bootleg Cole, I really cant wait to see what they do to this new title with a better engine, and more experience behind the cell's SPU's.

jerethdagryphon5811d ago

you do realise that C++ is simply a programming language one used nearly universaly for gaming c++ made quake 3 as well as crysis.

its siply the base level they use i doubt theyd use c# as its not a fully matured programming language

emaddox845811d ago (Edited 5811d ago )

Ha. Of course they wouldn't use c#. It's a managed language (garbage collected), developed by Microsoft, and meant to run on Window's based systems using the .net library. Now if someone wrote their own compiler and didn't use any .net APIs, then the language spec technically could be used for gaming on other platforms. However, being a managed language syntax means no direct access to memory in most cases. It would just be too slow for gaming because of this.

I would know. I'm a developer.

Also, c# is very much mature by now. It is in version 3.5 about to be (4.0), and many websites (asp.net) and native programs are developed using c# and .net.

Kurylo3d5811d ago

Goes to show what kind of people are on n4g.. makn up stuff about c++ lol... All games use c++ at the end of the day. Including to make the engine.... that includes infamous and uncharted lol

DA_SHREDDER5811d ago (Edited 5811d ago )

Right, and when they get rid of it and use their own engine, they should beable to take advantage of the cell and SPU's , even max them out, as to where C++ is more of a standard regular PC level program that isn't meant for multi-thread processing. Do I need to start breaking things down for you meat heads when I post something? Give me more bubbles and I'd be glad to. Im not a dev, but I've got a fetish for tech documentaries and what developers say about past, current, and future tech. I never assume things, I just go by what they say.

Oh, and please dont ever bring up Quake again, it really is a turd of a game.

@AC130 Gunship Its because inFamous 1 and the gameplay formula is tried and true.

@emaddox84. I never said I knew what I was talking about, I just go by what the devs and scientist say about tech. I know that C++ is language, and it might be used for multithreading for pc's, but the cell architecture is nothing like a quad core processor. Everything that runs through the cell run parallel in the loop. As to where regular processors run in every direction. Its not what I think, its what the scientist that made the cell said and gave examples,, look it up on youtube.

Oh, and if I dont know what Im talking about, then Sucker Punch doesn't. They are the ones that said inFamous 1 is using C++ but they plan on working on their own engine in the sequel. Now get off my nuts, your right I dont know shit.

emaddox845811d ago (Edited 5811d ago )

DA_SHREDDER, you have no idea what you are talking about. They have their own engine, written in c++. c++ is a programming language. You have to pick a programming language to write a game engine in. And practically every modern game engine is written in c++.

And actually c++ supports multi-threading. On desktop systems, you'd use a library like pthreads (so you don't have to make your own, which would take forever). I imagine there are PS3 c++ system calls to pick which SPU's processes are run on, and to write to each SPU's memory. If you couldn't write multi-threaded code in c++, game engines would never be written in it! Games, PS3 or not, are heavily parallelized. Once again, c++ is a language. Multi-threading capabilities really come from the systems API's, accessed through the language that you are using.

STONEY45811d ago

"inFamous 1 is using C++ but they plan on working on their own engine in the sequel."

Did you really just call C++ an engine??? It's a programing language, how do you expect us to believe you when you don't even know the simplest fact?

"C++ is more of a standard regular PC level program that isn't meant for multi-thread processing."

"I know that C++ is language, and it might be used for multithreading for pc's"

You just contradicted yourself. First you say it's a program, then you say you know it's language. You say it's not meant for multi-threaded processing, then you say it is. You really don't know what you're talking about.

LiquifiedArt5811d ago

C++,C and Low level assembly are used by game developers. They also use back-end database technologies, whether its SQL, Oracle etc...

I wonder if they use UDP for online gaming. I'd assume so, but requires them to do some verification work on the packets between clients. I may experiment with UDP soon.

Uncharted 2 Is the Most Important PlayStation Exclusive of All Time

In a list of games that defined the PlayStation 3, Uncharted 2: Among Thieves would certainly be one of the top contenders. The blockbuster sequel to 2007’s Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune not only received critical acclaim and became a massive hit for Sony’s third console when it was released 15 years ago on October 13th, 2009, but it also cemented Naughty Dog’s future as a developer of cinematic, story-driven action-adventure games as opposed to its history of colorful platformers like Crash Bandicoot and Jak and Daxter from previous PlayStation generations. To this day, Uncharted 2 stands as one of the PS3’s best exclusives and one of the most important PlayStation games of all time.

gold_drake559d ago

it was pretty good. especially the multiplayer

KyRo559d ago

I loved this era on multiplayer games from Sony. People used to call the modes tacked on multiplayer but they were enjoyable. I loved Factions even more. I'm Still gutted that the second one isn't coming out.

-Foxtrot559d ago

Yeah, that one game where it not only has an amazing single player but the multiplayer was also just as good.

A fresh a breath air with it's more "skill focused, less is more" multiplayer in a time during COD fever where every other game with online was trying to be like it.

Shame NaughtyDog eventually did do COD like things with Uncharted 3 and 4, they ruined what made the original so good. It become an over the top arcade fest in the end.

Inverno559d ago

Ironic cause the MP was basically Halo, and Bungie helped on the technical side of things too. MP was more simple back then, I've said this before but I played U2 MP religiously. I sucked at it like you have no idea, but mah gawd did I have so much fun. Can't find an MP game that hooked me like U2s these days. Then Factions came along and while it had its problem I found new religion with it. Agh damn it why did they cancel Factions 2 bruhh.

gold_drake559d ago

i had so much fun too, played almost every night with mates or cousins baha

Relientk77559d ago

It is for sure my favorite game in the series. It's such a blast to play. The train levels still hold up and are fun as hell as well as the entire game.

RaidenBlack559d ago (Edited 559d ago )

Still remember the first gameplay video ... shooting the chasing truck and then the beautiful visuals & details whilst traversing the dilapidated Nepal streets ... perfection
Too bad Sony never ported the trilogy to PC ...

RaiderNation559d ago

I would argue it's God of War.

darthv72559d ago

I'll say, the PS3 really did sequels better than people give it credit for. Resistance 2, Uncharted 2, Motorstorm Pacific Rift, Infamous 2... all were better than their initial offerings and still hold up to this day.

Yeah they had a lightning bolt in the shape of a question mark at the end of Infamous 2

They always went off the good ending for Cole so I think for Delsin it should be the bad ending

What he did in the bad ending, absorbing everyone’s powers, seemed like he was going to turn into something powerful.

Makes you feel like he could have been the real Beast and John was just an anomaly because of them messing with time

Sets up a Cole vs Delsin showdown

lukasmain1092d ago

How would fans feel about a reboot? You know to bring a new audience in? Not a good idea? Good idea?

anast1091d ago

Not a god idea. They let it sit for too long and the game hasn't been strong enough to carry itself all these years. There is so much other stuff out there right now.

masterfox1092d ago

Second Son was released in 2014 was an amazing game visually and gameplay wise, sometimes I play it again on the PS5 and seeing it run at 60 fps is something to behold(yes an almost 10 year old game), if you haven't done that on your PS5 try it you won't be disappointed, pure eye candy, a PS5 exclusive of Infamous would be amazing no doubt.

or maybe a reboot. with cole.
